About the role

The Facilities Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering support to existing power generating plants at Archaea. The support will range from system optimization to upgrade projects. This role will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Construction personnel in support of achieving runtime and power generation KPI's. They will also work closely with in-house Engineering teams and 3rd party Engineering Contractors to develop workpack deliverables for system modifications.

Key accountabilities

• Support the continuing improvement of power generating systems including new system designs and existing system retrofits.
• Create design basis and develop systems that include but are not limited to industrial piping, pumps, actuated valves, compressors, blowers, heat exchangers, other process equipment, and associated instrumentation.
• Work directly with 3rd-party engineering firms for engineering deliverables that are not internally generated and review and approve engineering submittals generated by 3rd parties.
• Ensure designs are aligned with safety and long-term serviceability as top priorities. 
• Create MOC's that loop in key stake holders to manage, mitigate, and document risks associated with modifications and upgrades.
• Select the right level of risk assesment for changes, from a Hazard Checklist to a HAZOP.
• Provide engineering input and/or develop operating, maintenance, commissioning, and start-up procedures and strategies.
• Provide project management oversite for improvement projects including start-up and commissioning.
• Maintain site engineering drawings and documents following a document control process.
• Provide technical support for operation and maintenance personnel in support of Archaea's power generation facilities.

Essential education

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or an equivalent related field of study.

Essential experience

• Minimum of 3 years experience in a relevant engineering roles.
• Knowledge and understanding of thermodynamics, fluid flow , heat transfer principles, thermal systems, mechanical design & structural analysis.
• Proven track record in practical application of engineering standards and practices for operating facilities (e.g. ASME, API, NFPA).
• Fundamental understanding of welding and other general fabrication methods.
• Demonstrable experience with designing & executing mechanical modifications and/or overseeing complex repair scopes.
• Demonstrable experience and technical understanding of engineering, maintenance, and operation of gas handling equipment including control integration of equipment.
• Demonstrable experience with developing functional narratives / functional control descriptions.
• Demonstrable experience in root cause failure analysis and problem solving methods.
• Demonstrable experience with ISA symbols and interpreting/developing PFDs and P&IDs.
• Demonstrable experience reading and interpreting plant layout, piping, mechanical drawings.
• Willing to travel domestically and work on operating plant sites.

Desirable criteria

• Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• Demonstrable experience in power generation especially LFGTE. 
• Demonstrable experience with biogas facilities.
• Demonstrable proficiency in SolidWorks & PDM.
• The following specific technical experience is desirable: gas processing/treating, gas compression equipment, gas/water separation, waste gas flare systems.
• Knowledge and understanding of internal combustion engines including but not limited to their fuel gas and fuel liquid systems, turbochargers, lubrication systems, exhaust systems, crankcase ventilation.

The Facilities Engineer works under the direct supervision of the Director of Facilities. The candidate will participate in the management of a safe and efficient constantly evolving work environment essential to the performance of GMP facilities. The candidate should have the ability to adapt to changes in the work/facility environment and be self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership in areas of responsibility. Must be on call 24/7 to respond to facilities matters, security and Building/Equipment Monitoring Systems alarms (emergency response is assigned on a rotating basis).

Education:

* Bachelor's Degree preferably in Engineering such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Biomedical with two (2) years of experience in engineering and maintenance in an FDA cGMP regulated manufacturing facility; OR
* Associate's Degree preferably in Engineering such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Biomedical with four (4) years of experience in engineering and maintenance in an FDA cGMP regulated research or manufacturing facility; OR
* High School Diploma with at least one year of education or training in a college, university or trade school plus six (6) years of relevant engineering work experience in a bio-pharma research, manufacturing facility operating under cGMP environment or related industry.

Experience:

* Experience in facilities maintenance with at least 2+ years' in an FDA cGMP regulated facility preferably in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or biopharmaceutical industry.

Essential Functions:

* Perform a variety of maintenance/minor repair activities on the interior areas of the Facilities.
* Support Engineering projects and provide support to other departments as required.
* Responsible for authoring/revision of Facility Department SOPs.
* Assure supervision of outside contract services ensure tasks are completed in accordance with contract/work orders, and all paperwork is complete.
* Participate in and ensure all work orders are properly documented according to policies, procedures and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
* Proactively seek ways to increase equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
* Participate in the oversite of contracted maintenance service by providers and contractors while they are on-site performing project work, maintenance, and/or repairs on facility's structure, systems and equipment.
* Strong Project Management and communication Skills.
* Ensure safe working conditions are maintained in accordance with the Safety Program and directions from the Safety Officer and Facility management.

**What You'll Do:**
+ Support various facility projects and in-house technical customer projects from start to finish, such as equipment replacement, lab modifications, utilities and various building systems.

**What You Need:**

**JOB PURPOSE:**
Oversee assigned staff and responsibility areas related to facilities management or building/equipment maintenance. Participate in department/unit strategic management.
**CORE DUTIES*:**
+ Under the general direction of theDirector, Maintenance Operations, the Facilities Engineer provides operational and technical support for all after-hours maintenance operations tasks including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, commercial kitchens and residential appliance maintenance, Project Crew work, and contracted services operations.
+ Requires effective communication, technical leadership, work coordination, prioritization and direction in the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and operations of building systems and equipment; develops strategic plans to further improve the effectiveness of the Maintenance Operations group after-hours services.
+ Assist all staff with troubleshooting, repair guidance, technical issues including in-field visits to sites to determine repair needs.
+ Coordinate after-hours contracted building systems repair projects as assigned.
+ Assist withtroubleshooting/problem solving for issues with building mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems and commercial food serviceequipment - including refrigeration systems, commercial cooking equipment, commercial dishwashing equipment - ensuring a high level of repair work quality through work quality checks.
+ Function as the primary point of contact for after-hours communication for Maintenance Operations internally within MCP and with campus partners
+ Monitor incoming radio service calls providing work task assignment coordination assistance as needed; ensure timely response to service calls and performance of assigned preventive maintenance tasks; assist with coordination of emergency response work.
+ Seamlessly coordinates after-hours maintenance work with shop Assistant Directors, Contracted Service Managers, stakeholders throughout R&DE.

+ Authorize the use of department purchasing card/ensuring compliance for after-hours emergency parts and supplies purchases.
+ Manage and/or develop budget for areas of responsibility, including staffing, maintenance, contracts, etc.
+ Manage ongoing service contracts as applicable.
+ Participate in department/unit strategic management, including making recommendations involving short-term planning for facility-type projects and for longer-range programs/projects; providing input into long-range financial, budgeting, and programmatic planning and development; providing input into the development of policies and procedures; interpret and manage policies and procedures for assigned area.
+ Oversee and/or monitor project activities; ensure integration with larger unit goals; coordinate with staff, subcontractors, and/or vendors.
+ Functions as the on-site management presence for all after-hours Maintenance Operations staff.
+ Effectively coordinates emergency situations, repair projects with Maintenance Operations colleagues, the Duty Supervisor and Emergency Response Supervisor program participants; coordinates with senior management as needed.
+ Completes and sends after-hours activity reports out as directed.
+ Manages the Duty Supervisor Program.
**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:**
**Education & Experience:**
Bachelor's degree in engineering or other appropriate technical area, or combination of technical education, training, and experience. Two or more years of experience managing facilities operations and maintenance staff in an environment with a variety of building types (administrative offices, classrooms, laboratories, residential & dining facilities, auditoriums, etc.).
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:**
+ Knowledge of environmental and safety rules, regulations, and policies. Ability to conduct job site inspections to ensure compliance.
