Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Law Enforcement Captain - Boca Raton, FL.
The Law Enforcement Captain is responsible for the operations of the FAU Police Department and must meet the requirements as set forth in Chapter 943 Florida State Statutes. The Law Enforcement Captain commands the road patrol division in directing the law enforcement and public safety activities at FAU.
Responsibilities:
+ Ensures the Police Department is prepared to handle all types of emergencies and/or disasters.
+ Recognizes an armed offender and possesses the knowledge to prevent such violence by proper threat assessments and training.
+ Analyzes situations accurately, makes effective decisions/judgments under pressure and during emergency situations, and takes appropriate action.
+ Coordinates the department's involvement in special events held on all campuses.
+ Act as Incident Commander during critical emergency situations.
+ Possess the ability to develop strategic plans for the Police department that are consistent with the University's strategic plans.
+ Ensure that the department adheres to a community-oriented policing strategy that supports the department's mission with an emphasis on a positive/proactive approach that facilitates the overall mission of the University.
+ Lead, direct, supervise, motivate, and inspire others; evaluate and measure the performance of people, teams, and organizations; and assess performance and progress.
+ Builds morale and enhance the abilities of those supervised.
+ Supervise sworn and non-sworn personnel.
+ Resolve operational problems and situations as they occur. Initiate and support innovation and ideas with creativity, flexibility, responsiveness, and focus.
+ Possess comprehensive knowledge of and apply current Law Enforcement methods, policies, procedures, rules, regulations, laws, criminal investigative practices, techniques and procedures, modern community policing, and problem-solving philosophies; and make sound recommendations based on findings of investigations.
+ Effectively communicates information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the campus community, the surrounding communities, and the public.
+ Initiates, establishes, and fosters communication and teamwork through a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University.
+ Maintains dignity and self-control in managing a broad range of high-level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
+ Communicate with members of the University community for the purposes of improving Police service and improving department community communications.
+ Represent the department in various community activities and make public presentations to groups. Direct the Investigative division to work actively with other agencies to track crime trends and spikes outside the University.
+ Improves operations, decreases turnaround times, streamlines work processes, and works cooperatively and jointly to provide quality, seamless customer service.

- Remain compliant with all FRS and Bank training requirements and maintains Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officer certification.
Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

About the Role:
The Law Enforcement Liaison Clinician will work with core emergency services team and law enforcement to identify clients in need of services and to take a more proactive approach in meeting program demands. The overall goals are to reduce unnecessary Emergency Department utilization, assist in diverting inpatient psychiatric admissions by providing counseling and therapeutic support to clients in crisis, with the emphasis on reducing unnecessary interactions with law enforcement to decrease incarceration rates and over utilization of other Emergency personnel. This position is responsible for providing mental health crisis assessment, intervention and brief treatment services to a diverse population of clients in crisis. In addition, the crisis clinician will provide appropriate recommendations for care and linkage services for clients requiring on-going treatment.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with core crisis team and law enforcement to provide support to clients in crisis, reduce unnecessary interactions with law enforcement or the criminal justice system.
- Collaborate with core crisis team to identify clients currently in crisis, or at risk of going into crisis, to better assess overall needs and to assist them in meeting those needs.
- Assist in reducing unnecessary Emergency Department utilization by clients with primary mental health needs.
- Work with Agency staff to provide appropriate level of support in an effort to reduce inpatient psychiatric admissions.
- Proactively reach out to identified clients who are at risk of relapse or mental health crisis.
- Master's Degree in clinical psychology, social work or related field is preferred, Bachelor's degree required.

- Experience in crisis intervention services, risk management, assessment of suicide potential and integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders preferred.

+ Provides safety and security presence for university property by application of conscientious vehicle, bicycle and foot patrol functions on a 12 hour shift basis.
