Morrison Industrial Equipment is looking for Full Time Field Service Technicians in our Traverse City location, located at 2749 Aero Park Drive, Traverse City, MI  . A Field Service Technician travels locally to customers, using a company van, to complete needed repairs on a wide variety of products with an emphasis on forklifts.

This position would require a valid, good standing driver’s license. As well as pre-employment drug screen, physical exam, and a background check for any position within the company.
This team member works Monday-Friday, first shift hours, and works 40 hours a week with opportunity for overtime.

For experienced mechanics, starting compensation ranges from $26-30/hour.

Job Description:

Heavy Equipment Mechanics will be responsible for the maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of specialized diesel utility vehicles/machinery in shop, and in field service environments. Factory and OEM training is offered upon hire. Mechanics with backgrounds working on heavy trucks, heavy equipment, and or utility vehicles are preferred.

Key Qualifications:

• 3 or more years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic.
  
• Degree in Diesel Technology/Diesel Technician or equivalent.
  
• Good understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  
• Welding/fabrication experience.

Position Responsibilities:

• Complete all service jobs that are assigned to you.
• Communicate with the Road Lead Technician on any unusual service problems encountered or for any technical assistance needed.
• Attend service training classes offered to maintain knowledge on new products, or for refreshers on products not encountered too often.
• Complete and submit all paperwork daily for jobs worked on (timecards, maintenance reports with customers’ signature).
• Communicate with dispatcher and/or service office as to status of jobs and availability for new jobs.
• Identify jobs that should be sent to our shop for repair (due to complexity or safety reasons) and recommend they be sent in.
• Develop and maintain relationship with territory sales representatives to keep them informed of sales opportunities you might see.
• Always adhere to safety rules and policies at all times.

Essential skills and experience:

• Must have very good skills in repairing powered industrial equipment, with a minimum of two (2) years of experience repairing forklift trucks and/or other products we represent, to include all types of gas, diesel, and electric trucks.
• Must successfully complete any training courses required.
• Strong customer orientation.
• Must be a good communicator – written and verbal.
• Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
• Basic computer proficiency and laptop fundamentals.
• Must own tools necessary to perform repairs, per our recommended tool list.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Must be certified to operate material handling equipment (we will train).
• Commitment to company vision and mission.

Physical demands: Employee frequently lifts up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds, and rarely up to 100 pounds. Employee is required to frequently stand, recline (lying on back), kneel, walk, twist, reach, and use feet to repair and operate machinery. Employee is required to occasionally sit, stoop, crouch, squat, climb, and crawl. Constant use of hands and fingers to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, computer equipment, and other office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have listening, speaking, and writing skills to communicate with customers and service office.

Job Purpose

As a Field Service Mechanic A, you are a master technician and will assume a leadership role in product knowledge and standards of quality within the branch. You will serve as a go-to resource for utilizing your mechanical expertise to ensure Herc fleet remain in proper operating condition on our customer jobsites, at all times. Field Service Mechanics are dispatched to local jobsites at various times of the day and work independently without direct supervision. What you will do.

• Develop and maintain a consistent schedule of performing preventative maintenance of all Herc owned fleet at long term customer job sites
• Oversee and conduct oil changes, lubrication of equipment, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements and assorted services
• Diagnose and repair heavy equipment as required to ensure proper operating condition at the job site
• Diagnose and troubleshoot fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and propane systems
• Recondition and replace assorted parts to return equipment to a safely functioning state
• Educating customers on proper use of equipment to avoid future breakdowns
• Analyze problem areas for any significant wear or tear and address to ensure proper usage of the equipment until your next scheduled visit  
• Adhere to all safety guidelines posted at active jobsite where repairs and maintenance are completed
• Maintain work area on jobsite in a clean and organized manner
• Produce timely and detailed service reports and repair logs
• Follow all company’s filed procedures and protocols
• Build positive relationships with customers
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

• Highschool diploma or equivalent
• Ability to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, hydraulics, pumps and assorted tools and equipment
• Ability to understand detailed technical schematics, owner manuals, and product warning labels
• Ownership of sufficient selection of hand and air/electric tools to complete most repairs and services
• Ability to be on call to support operational needs
• A valid driver’s license
