Responsibilities
• Develop, implement, and maintain fire safety policies and procedures in line with local laws and regulations.

Qualifications

• Certification in Fire Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field (e.g., NEBOSH, NFPA, OSHA Fire Safety).
• Proven experience in fire safety, health and safety, or risk management roles.
• Strong knowledge of fire safety regulations, codes, and standards.

Responsibilities
Summary:
The Fire and Safety Specialist serves as a staff advisor to give guidance and act as a consultant to the different unit management officers so they can fulfill their safety responsibilities. Evaluates and maintains the safety and comfort of the environment by incorporating all monitoring activities, risk management, cost containment and standards for accrediting agencies into a coordinated, integrated risk management program.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate Risk Management Committee.
- Develop indicators and critical measures of success.
- Review Adverse Incidents.
- Review policies and procedures to ensure the provision of safe services.
- Develop a program for the safe use of hazardous chemicals in the workplace.
- Devise a program to prevent bodily harm and loss or damage of property for the facility.
- Ensure compliance with State, Federal and Company’s policies and procedures.
- Conduct a practical system for reporting, evaluating, and maintaining records of infection among persons served and personnel.
- Inform staff of new policies and procedures.
- Establish programs detecting, correcting, or controlling hazardous conditions, toxic environments, and health hazards.
- Ensure that proper safeguards and personal protective equipment are available, properly maintained and properly used.
- Establish safety procedures for employees, inmates, facility layout, vendors, outside contractors and visitors.
- Establish and submit for approval the establishment of safety procedures for purchase and installation of new equipment and for safe storage of hazardous materials.
- Maintain an accident recording system to measure the facility's performance.
- Conduct investigations of accidents, near-misses, and property damage and prepares reports with recommended corrective actions.
- Conduct and/or coordinate the safety training for all levels of management, newly hired and current employees and newly received and current inmates.
- Assist in the formation and operation of the Unit Safety Committee as well as conducts monthly meetings of the Management Safety Committee.
- Conduct routine inspections in all areas of the facility checking for safety and health hazards.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or a GED certification required.
- Completion of two (2) months initial training.
- One year of experience in a correctional setting and a working knowledge of Workers Compensation policies.
- Working knowledge of State Laws relating to corrections.
- Working knowledge of applicable court orders.
- Working knowledge of GEO policies and procedures.
- Ability to communicate verbally and written in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to give instructions and have them carried out.
- Ability to write communication, documents, policy, court room defenses, contract negotiations, and other required written correspondence.
- Ability to maintain high tolerance to mental stress.
- Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions.
- Normal vision and hearing.

**Position Specific Description**
This position is essential for ensuring the fire safety compliance and effectiveness of utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). As the Fire Safety subject matter expert (SME), you will play a critical role in reviewing safety reports, approving fire safety designs, and guiding adherence to relevant codes and standards. This includes engagement with national and local fire institutions and first responders, educating various stakeholders on BESS fire safety, and ensuring standardized safety measures across all company projects. You will also participate in industry committees, fostering the advancement of fire safety standards for battery energy storage systems. This is considered a critical support role to the Energy Storage Engineering team.
**Job Duties and Responsibilities:**
+ Act as a Fire Safety subject matter expert (SME) for utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS).
+ Review all UL 9540a reports from cell-, module-, and up through unit/installation-level, and provide direction.
+ Analyze, approve, and offer guidance toward the fire safety system designs of BESS manufacturers and projects.
+ Review, provide feedback, and offer guidance for all project- and product-level designs regarding BESS safety and code compliance, ensuring adherence to all applicable codes and standards, including UL, NFPA, and IFC.
+ Oversee all safety analyses for project-level reports, including hazard mitigation analysis (HMA), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), heat flux analysis, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations ensuring that all fire safety requirements are met or exceeded.
+ Initiate and foster relationships with national, state, and local fire institutions and first responders, including Fire Marshalls, Fire Departments, and educational institutions.
+ Travel to local jurisdictions to present BESS and fire safety to first responders, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), public utility commissions (PUCs), and community meetings, addressing and educating about the concerns of each stakeholder.
+ Work closely with local firefighters and first responders to educate them about the potential BESS hazards, hazard mitigation, fire safety system designs, sequences of operation, and emergency response/operation plans (ERP/EOPs).
+ Standardize information around BESS fire safety systems throughout the organization, ensuring consistent messaging in every region in which our projects are deployed.
+ Participate in task groups and technical committees for collaboration and direction of the advancement of industry codes and standards pertaining to the safety of battery energy storage systems.
+ Templatize and create standard outlines for third party analysis and reporting to allow for consistency across the board with various suppliers and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of onboarding a new supplier.
