POSITION SUMMARY
This position directs the Fire Prevention Management Program. Identifies opportunities for improvements, then defines and implements change.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Plans, conducts or assists with all fire drills. Documents drill results and required follow-up actions, reporting all findings to appropriate managers and internal committees. Ensures that all fire protection systems are in working condition and tested according to assigned schedules.
2. Conducts fire and life safety risk assessments for any remodel, renovation or new construction. Prepares budget recommendations for manager regarding repair, replacement, upgrades and service.
3. Participates in review fire management plan for assigned areas.
4. May participate in fire safety education during new employee orientation. Delivers training necessary as follow-up to fire drill deficiencies or for continuing education.
5. Completes incident reports regarding fire safety and reports to proper authorities (internal or external). Notifies appropriate manager/supervisor regarding life safety systems operational conditions.
6. Participates in all regulatory building inspections related to life safety and fire prevention. Provides budget recommendations to correct regulatory deficiencies.
7. Performs a variety of maintenance duties as assigned.
8. Responsible for development, implementation and monitoring of Fire Prevention Management Plan. Internal customers include all staff, patients and family and any campus visitors. External customers include regulatory officials and vendors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
Three years of experience maintaining fire/life safety equipment and programs. Must possess a working knowledge of fire, life safety and building codes, regulatory agencies and requirements. Basic knowledge of general maintenance functions. Basic knowledge of computers, including standard office software programs. Effective written and verbal communication skills and basic mathematical skills. Must be able to read, understand and work from blueprints. Must posses a valid driver's license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prefer experience as either carpenter, plumber, electrician or HVAC mechanic.

The Boeing Fire Department is the world's largest Industrial fire department. The Boeing Portland area has a diverse footprint with fire services supporting Portland, OR and Portland International Airport (PDX).
This team member will perform multi-discipline duties and provide technical consultation to stakeholders globally. **Position Responsibilities:**
+ Conducts field inspections and applies command media to ensure compliance with fire protection requirements
+ Monitors, enforces, and documents compliance with locally adopted fire code and associated local fire protection requirements/amendments
+ References fire code relating to the inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire protection systems
+ Implements Boeing policy, procedure, and practice relating to fire prevention

+ Maintains all fire protection system inspection, test and maintenance records for all system inspections in computer-based tracking software such as emergency reporting in accordance with the record retention schedule
+ Witnesses the acceptance testing of fire protection systems in accordance with the relevant design standards as Boeing's Fire Protection representative
+ Coordinates with Boeing Fire Protection Engineering as required to ensure appropriate site fire protection is maintained
+ Performs reviews of operations, construction, and facility plans and drawings, relating to compliance with egress system design, portable fire extinguishers, emergency responder access, fire protection system naming and point identification, and general configuration of systems
+ Reviews and compares new construction, including fire protection system modifications, with previously approved plans, identifying and resulting discrepancies, communicating discrepancies to the responsible organization, and following up to ensure discrepancies are resolved in accordance with the applicable codes, standards and the policies of the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)
+ Participates and assists in all scheduled training requirements
+ Provides fire prevention training and education to employees as needed to maintain Boeing's status as a fire prevention first department
+ Coordinates with firefighters, site services, construction management, contractors and outside agencies in the performance of their duties

Job Overview

Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S), the Director of Fire Prevention and Occupational Safety leads the University's Fire Prevention Division. The Director of Fire Prevention and Occupational Safety oversees Fire & Life Safety, OSHA compliance programs, Construction Review and Inspection efforts, and ensures safety programs are effectively implemented and maintained across both the Hilltop and Capital campuses. This role serves as the University Fire Marshall. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead inspections of academic, administrative, and research spaces to assess and ensure compliance with OSHA general industry standards and Georgetown University policy.
  • Direct the University's OSHA safety programs, including but not limited to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined spaces, and walking/working surfaces
  • Manage Fire & Life Safety programs, including the University's fire watch and emergency response protocols
  • Oversee safety planning and compliance for on-campus events
  • Manage and enforce the University's construction safety program
  • Direct investigations of occupational and fire-related incidents, accidents, and near-misses; lead root cause analysis and follow-up mitigation strategies
  • Develop and oversee campus-wide training programs on OSHA and fire prevention topics
  • Supervise a team of three safety professionals, providing leadership, guidance, and performance management
  • Serve as the University's primary liaison to the Georgetown University Police Department, municipal fire departments, and other emergency response units for all fire safety-related events and emergencies


Work Interactions

The Director works in close coordination with EH&S safety managers, the Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD), the Department of Public Safety, fire protection engineers, the campus fire alarm team, and Facilities Management to address and mitigate fire and occupational safety concerns. The role also requires regular interaction with students, staff, faculty, visitors, contractors, and external consultants to ensure ongoing compliance with relevant fire and occupational safety regulations including NFPA, OSHA, and DOEE standards.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Fire Protection, or a related field.
  • At least ten years of experience preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in OSHA General Industry Standard, NFPA standards etc
  • Comprehensive technical and legal knowledge in all areas of fire and life safety disciplines, with sufficient academic knowledge in the fire sciences or related fields and understanding of related technical requirements, logistics, materials and operations, rules, regulations, and laws
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Knowledge of construction safety is a highly desirable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Position Overview

The Campus Fire Marshal (CFM) operates with broad and independent authority as determined by the Executive Director, and with delegated authority from the Office of the State Fire Marshal for construction inspection and plan review and the Title 19 building inspection program. This position directs the campus Fire Prevention Division (FPD), overseeing both Fire & Life Safety and Construction & Design Plan Review and Inspection programs. The position interacts and represents the campus with municipal fire departments and regional and state fire related jurisdictions.

Responsibilities



  • Plans, directs, and manages EH&S programs for fire, life and panic safety, and construction inspection/plan review. Establishes and implements new or existing strategic goals and objectives for the Fire Prevention Division to carry out critical functions and activities.
  • Directs, monitors, evaluates, and continuously improves all FPD activities in support of progressive campus fire and life safety programs. Oversee and monitor delegated development of operational plans.
  • Campus expert and EH&S resource on fire and life safety technical and legislative issues, providing professional and strategic consultation to the Executive Director, EH&S professionals, and campus academic and senior University executives to support division, campus, or System wide planning.
  • Proposes new, or recommends changes to, fire and life safety policies affecting the organization, campus, and community to assure compliance. Continuously evaluates, recommends, and implements procedures that assure awareness of fire, life & panic safety requirements.Directs the program and serves as the Lead Designated Campus Fire Marshal (as described in the UC-SFM MOU) related to campus construction (new or renovation of facilities), Title 24. Exercises delegated authority to review, approve, or require changes to construction building plans.
  • Conducts inspections, and approve or deny building occupancy. Oversee subordinate FTP staff, with SFM Designated authority, to implement these functions.
  • Directs compliance and through subordinate FPD staff, apply and enforce Title 19 fire safety requirements for all campus building structures, events, and community related to UCB activities. Monitors or assures compliance to prevent fire, life & panic safety hazards.
  • Manages and supervises the FPD staff. Oversees acceptable work production and professional development of team. Supervises, motivates, guides, and applies appropriate standards to staff in their implementation of assigned duties. Recommends or approves hiring of new employees, promotions, reclassification, salary actions, and terminations. Administers full range of performance management to ensure maintenance of expectations and standards.
    • Develops and evaluates personnel, using appropriate performance assessment tools, and ensures the effective and efficient implementation of assignments.
    • Assesses job and career enhancement development needs for staff, assuring access to development opportunities.
    • Establishes, enforces, and promotes a culture of safety and compliance among all staff supervised.
    • As part of the EH&S Senior Management Team, may establish and recommend changes to policies that affect the organization.
    • By memorandum of understanding or other agreements, may develop, manage and oversee associated programs at other UC campuses, per identified need, and manage the assigned personnel.
  • Implements in-year budget for construction recharge program and the non-state structural support recharge programs, approving non-compensation expenditure. Recommends budget distribution or augmentations.
    • Participates in the annual budget review, developing and assisting with the positioning of EH&S budgetary proposals and recharge programs to implement the EH&S mission.
    • Provides technical input and directly support annual recharge re-certification activities.
    • Monitors rechargeable field work, assist with resolving service disputes, ensure FPD staff input timely and accurate service hours to automated EH&S recharge system.
    • Approves recharges for collection at least monthly and prior to campus financial journal deadlines.
  • Assures or directs the collection of relevant data for inclusion in reports to Federal, State, and local agencies (e.g., the Clery Act).
    • Create fire prevention and construction related reports as requested.
    • Creates or supports EH&S communication programs to ensure that campus communities are informed of compliance requirements.
    • Supports efforts to increase campus public awareness of applicable fire prevention rules, regulations, and policies to protect environmental health and prevent unsafe conditions.
  • As delegated by the Executive Director, represents UC Berkeley EH&S or the Executive Director on fire and life safety issues, fire prevention, and construction compliance to fire code.
    • Serves on system-wide committees and work groups
    • Serves as a liaison and work closely with local fire departments (e.g., Berkeley Fire Department), regional fire divisions, and State (State Fire Marshal) or federal fire- related agencies regularly negotiating compliance issues as appropriate.
    • Serves as resource or liaison with campus senior executive administrators (chancellor, vice chancellors, etc.) and external senior level representatives (fire chiefs and fire marshals).
  • Maintains current, up-to-date knowledge and understanding of all existing and proposed regulations in fire and life safety code (e.g., NFPA, CCR, etc.).
    • Serves, if appropriate, on NFPA code committees or contribute to the NFPA code interpretation.
    • Completes and maintains compliance on campus/systemwide training requirements, as well as any training necessary per role.
  • Primary contact for UC Police Department and other municipal emergency response units related to campus fire events.
    • Responds to fire scenes on a 24 hours - 7 days a week basis, returning to campus if appropriate and required.

Position Overview

The Campus Fire Marshal (CFM) operates with broad and independent authority as determined by the Executive Director, and with delegated authority from the Office of the State Fire Marshal for construction inspection and plan review and the Title 19 building inspection program. This position directs the campus Fire Prevention Division (FPD), overseeing both Fire & Life Safety and Construction & Design Plan Review and Inspection programs. Third party resilience refers to the ability of external vendors, suppliers, and service providers to withstand, adapt to, and recover from unexpected disruptions such as cyberattacks, natural disasters or technical failures and maintain operational stability, security and compliance in the face of such disruptions. It ensures vendors can maintain their contractual obligations and operational continuity despite internal and external challenges.

As our business processes rely on third parties for critical functions, it is essential for us to anticipate potential disruptions, strategize preventive measures, and ensure the organization can continue serving its customers without interruption caused by third party vendors. Third Party Resilience program is part of the Operational Resilience and Business Continuity Management (BCM) team in Enterprise Shared Services (ESS) at American Express. This team works with colleagues across the company to implement and oversee resilience, continuity, and response capabilities related to services performed by third party vendors. The team coordinates planning and preparedness for potential service disruptions and other crises. As a Manager of Third Party Resilience, you will be part of a team of professionals to identify and manage resiliency risk of third party vendors to ensure business continuity of services performed by third parties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with various business unit stakeholders as the subject matter expert for third party risk management resilience pillar to:
    • Enhance and implement the resilience risk assessment of third party engagements in Process Unity, to identify resilience risk from third party vendors
    • Partner with third party risk management team and third party relationship managers to manage resiliency risk
    • Support third party risk management team for quality assurance of resilience assessments and due diligence artifacts
  • Manage sole provider third party risk, including:
    • Identify sole provider third party engagements
    • Define and implement resiliency risk management strategies for sole providers
    • Establish sole provider risk reporting
  • Define and implement resiliency risk management strategies for third parties supporting critical business functions
  • Conduct joint business continuity exercises with third parties
  • Support regulatory and internal audits and reviews on resilience pillar of third party risk management
  • Support benchmarking of our third party resilience program to peer companies
Minimum Qualifications

Experience and Background:

  • 3 years' experience in risk management and/or business continuity
  • Strong understanding of American Express products, services, and organizational structure
  • Strong problem-solving skills; ability to see the big picture with attention given to critical details
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities under pressure
  • Familiarity with third party lifecycle management program is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred

Leadership Skills:

  • Demonstrate thought leadership and ability to work independently and creatively to solve problems
  • Excellent relationship, collaboration, and presentation skills with ability to interact and influence stakeholders in a matrixed organization
  • Dynamic, self-motivated colleague with proven track record on driving process improvements
  • Self-confident with a strong sense of integrity and the ability and willingness to challenge and be challenged
  • Ability to communicate key risks to colleagues, business partners, and senior leaders
