Job Description

The Director, Income Tax is responsible for managing the company’s income, franchise and property tax functions, including compliance, planning, tax provision, and special projects. This leadership role will oversee tax filings, tax payments, financial accounting for income taxes, owner tax distributions, and provide strategic guidance on tax-related matters to drive value across the organization.


Responsibilities

Tax Planning & Strategy

  • Support the development and execution of income tax planning strategies.
  • Assist with transfer pricing documentation and supply chain tax planning initiatives.
  • Identify tax risks and opportunities; propose and implement strategies to improve the company’s tax position.
  • Communicate the company’s tax strategy and posture to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments to identify ways the tax function can add value to operations.
  • Network with industry professionals to stay current on best practices and regulatory changes.

Tax Provision & Reporting

  • Lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740 (FAS 109).
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to ensure timely and accurate tax accounting.
  • Oversee the preparation of tax-related disclosures and footnotes.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.


Compliance & Audit

  • Manage all aspects of federal, state, and local income and franchise tax compliance, including return preparation and estimated payments.
  • Ensure tax implications of major corporate initiatives are appropriately addressed and communicated.
  • Lead corporate income and franchise tax audits, including IRS examinations.

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Lead, manage, and develop a high-performing tax team.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development to tax staff.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and accountability.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA required
  • 8+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, a large corporate tax department, or a combination of both


Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Deep knowledge of federal and state income tax laws
  • Strong understanding of ASC 740 / FAS 109 tax accounting

The Income Tracking Analyst role falls within the overall structure of the Administration Team and has a direct impact on our songwriters through maximizing revenue from all revenue streams. A little bit about our team:
The Income Tracking department is responsible for verifying and analyzing royalty payments from sources in the US and Canada including PROs, DSPs, record labels, and third-party licensees to identify non-payment or under-payment of royalties. In addition to verifying and reviewing US and Canadian income sources, the team handles the review of international income for all core and production music deals signed out the US and Canada. The team works closely with internal WCM departments in the US and other territories to analyze large data sets with the purpose of identifying payment issues and pursuing adjustments on behalf of our clients.

Under general supervision, with latitude for independent judgment and decision, is responsible for managing and overseeing all Income Tracking aspects of the Administration Department, as well as managing a four-person team.

+ Lead the group in all departmental functions, including but not limited to related system development such as customizing current and new technology to best achieve departmental objectives, as well as system implementation and operation

+ Partner with Royalty, Executive, and/or Business Affairs department to review problems of clients such as writers, composers, publishers, etc., through research and conferring with other departmental or Company staff and/or coordinates the adjudication and/or settlements thereof
+ Partner with various Company departments such as Copyright, Licensing, Creative and Finance to verify information on certain releases, development, license status, payments in order to provide royalties projections or/and relevant financial information in regards of budget forecast
+ Lead department and acts as liaison in interactions with third party partners used to enhance collection efforts

**Job Description**
The purpose of this job is to oversee all of the company's income tax matters including including federal and state income tax return preparation and review, tax notice and audit management.
In this role you will:
1. Oversee, lead, and set priorities for the tax team
2. Select, coach, train, and develop direct reports, to include appraising job performance and conducting performance reviews
3. Serve as subject matter expert in income tax matters; research projects on taxability, answer internal and external tax questions, and resolve important tax issues
4. Perform tax return reviews
5. Manage tax audit and other tax associated projects
**Qualifications**
+ Master's Degree in accounting, business, JD, or equivalent professional degree required
+ Minimum seven years' multistate tax experience
+ Minimum five years' supervisory experience required
+ Law license or Certified Public Accountant
+ Intermediate Microsoft Office
+ Ability to manage and lead a team
+ Teamwork, problem solving, and conflict management skills
+ Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and organizational skills
+ Strong attention to detail
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills including public speaking skills as well the ability to communicate financial principles and practices with non-finance team members
+ Ability to set priorities, multitask, meet deadlines, and resolve problems with a high sense of urgency
