Job Summary
NW Asthma & Allergy Center is looking for a Floor Nurse to help deliver quality patient care at our clinics in the Seattle area. Working closely with the attendant physician, the floor nurse helps to ensure smooth clinic operations and positive patient experience. This role manages clinical triage, handles prior authorizations, and provides leadership and support to medical assistants as part of the clinical support team. It is the expectation that this position will be available to cover as needed at our clinics in Everett, Northgate, Redmond, Issaquah and Renton.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients with asthma and allergies.
- Perform patient assessments, administer medications, and monitor responses.
- Educate patients on self-care management, follow-up appointments, and when to seek additional care.
Clinical Triage:
- Act as a primary contact for triage, ensuring efficient handling and escalation of patient cases.
- Conduct telephone triage, assessing patients' needs over the phone and providing appropriate guidance or referrals.
Clinical Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and current patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Document patient interactions, treatments, and outcomes accurately and promptly.
- Complete and submit prior authorization requests for medications.
- Communicate with insurance companies to secure timely medication approvals.
- Maintain records of prior authorization submissions and follow-ups.
Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Perform as a clinical lead in your assigned office setting.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to care plan and clinical protocol development.
- Act as a resource for our clinical support staff, offering guidance and support on complex cases.
- Assist in the training of new clinical staff, ensuring they are familiar with clinical protocols and procedures.
Quality Improvement:
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and clinic operations.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement evidence-based practices.
- Responsibilities will be assigned and carried out in accordance with the applicant's scope of practice as defined by their licensure, whether LPN or RN.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Current RN or LPN license in Washington State.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with a strong preference for experience in asthma and allergy care.
- Experience with triaging and prior authorizations is highly desirable.
Skills:
- Strong clinical assessment and patient care abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
