Joining Process Innovation and Scale-Up with ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering Company, you will be an integral technical contributor to process development and scale-up programs applying transport and fluid dynamics fundamentals and computational physics-based modeling skill sets to tackle process development, scale-up, and unit design problems critical to developing new process technologies from concept ideas to commercial scale deployment.
**What you will do**
+ Develop and apply fluid mechanics and transport phenomena models to guide the development and design of new process technologies with applications across ExxonMobil Business Divisions; Upstream Company, Product Solutions Company, and Low Carbon Solutions.
+ Work collaboratively as part of cross-discipline team of experts in experimentation (active materials development, pilot plants, cold-flow experimentation), process engineering and equipment design. Though the role will be modeling focused, some programs may also offer ability to do experimental work.
+ Serve as a subject matter expert in topics related to CFD to research and process engineering community
+ Your success in this role requires an aptitude for and strong background in physics based modeling, particularly in the areas of fluid dynamics and transport phenomena, and a broad interest applying these skills to process development.
+ Many problems rely on strong base in chemical engineering unit operations - with a suitable academic/experience background, that can be developed through assignments on projects.

Leidos is seeking anAerospace Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer Internto join our team next summer.This internship opportunity is for an aerospace engineering student within the Engineering and Integration Department as part of the Missiles &Aviation Division.Members of the Engineering and Integration Department provide solutions to complex, technical problems involving analysis, design, flight testing and/or autonomous solutions of various types of weapons, space systems, hypersonic vehicles, acquisition systems, fixed & rotary wing aircraft, and more.
The engineer in this position will work closely with full-time engineers to complete a technical project utilizing CFD concepts for an aerospace vehicle being designed by Leidos - Dynetics.
**Primary Responsibilities.**
Responsibilities may include the following:
+ Creation or modification of geometry using commercial CAD software
+ Surface and volume mesh generation using Pointwise commercial meshing software
+ Flowfield simulations using a variety of commercial and government CFD software
+ Post-processing of flowfield simulations using Tecplot and Paraview visualization software
+ Collecting, plotting, and analyzing resulting force & moment coefficients
**Basic Qualifications.**
+ This position requires a fundamental understanding of aerospace engineering concepts, particularly including fluid dynamics or basic aerodynamics.
+ Candidate must also possess a solid foundation of programming experience in Matlab, C/C++, Python, or other language.
+ Candidate must possess technical communication skills and an ability to work both independently and in collaborative team environments.
+ Candidates must be a resident of North Alabama area or willing to temporarily relocate to work on-site at the Huntsville, AL office.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design of new products and test hardware, as well as the improvement of existing products. The engineer will utilize their mechanical engineering expertise during the proposal and concept generation phase, product development, production, and qualification testing phases of new product design. The engineer will have the opportunity to design creative solutions that meet product requirements. The engineer should be familiar with 3D modeling and drafting, and able be hands-on supporting production, integration, and testing. The engineer will develop solutions which leverage commercial off the shelf (COTS) products paired with custom hardware. The engineer must be a resourceful researcher engaging vendors, manufacturers, and SME's regarding design decisions. The engineer will take part in design reviews at both part, subsystem and system level including Peer Reviews, DFMAs, PDRs, and CDRs. The engineer will work closely with systems, electrical, test, and production engineers.
In addition to their technical skills, the ideal candidate leverages strong verbal and written communication to adapt to a wide variety of high-pressure situations while maintaining professionalism and courtesy. About the role

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for supporting the startup and early-life operation of new renewable natural gas (RNG) plants at Archaea. This role will work closely with a team of engineers and plant operations personnel focused on delivering high plant reliability and safety performance for new facilities. 

They will provide input to resolve design vulnerabilities or other early operability challenges across Archaea’s fleet of new facilities as they come online. They will be tasked with creating and implementing engineering solutions related to plant improvements.

Key accountabilities

  • Key member of a "Startup/Stay-Up Squad" dedicated to achieving high early life plant reliability and safety
  • Identify and develop solutions for defects and vulnerabilities in design of new plants
  • Lead the creation of MOC's to document any plant modifications or upgrades
  • Work directly with 3rd-party engineering companies for engineering deliverables that are not internally generated
  • Ensure readiness of operations and maintenance teams for new facilities ahead of start-up 
  • Provide engineering input into operating, maintenance, commissioning, and start-up procedures and strategies
  • Act as a resource for new operators and technicians in the design and operation of Archaea's Modular Design RNG plants
  • Work collaboratively across many teams to ensure smooth plant startup and operation including Operations, Maintenance, Project Engineering and Plant Design
  • Support during first time start-up of multiple new facilities per year

Essential education

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

Essential experience

  • More than 8 years experience with natural gas processing, refining, petrochemicals or related field. 
  • Proven track record in practical application of engineering standards and practices for operating facilities (e.g. ASME, API)
  • Experience with designing & executing minor mechanical modifications and/or overseeing complex repair scopes 
  • Experience and technical understanding of engineering, maintenance, and operation of gas processing equipment
  • Working knowledge of integrity management inspection techniques and repair methods. 
  • Experience in root cause failure analysis
  • Proficient in working with PFDs and P&IDs.
