**WHAT YOU WILL DO:**
The Food Safety Sanitor performs sanitation labor by performing the eight steps of sanitation while understanding and complying with all food safety and safety policies and procedures. Job duties include:
- Work cooperatively with leads and management to ensure sanitation procedures are followed.
- Frequently lift hoses, equipment, and chemical containers, etc.
- Wear employer-specified personal protective equipment ("PPE") such as gloves, face shield, eye goggles, aprons, boots, safety glasses, etc.
- Exposure to chemicals (with PPE required for the task).
- All night standing, lifting, and crouching for periods at a time.
- Perform all tasks safely.
- Use Lock-out tag-out ("LOTO").
- Other duties as assigned.
**YOUR MUST HAVES:**
+ Must be 18 years of age or older.
+ Ability to take direction and instruction from managers and be accountable for own actions.
+ Safety awareness and attention to detail.
+ Ability to work in extreme temperature fluctuations.

Position SummaryThe Food Safety & Quality Intern will be exposed to a wide variety of responsibilities and learning opportunities across numerous internal departments.
The Mom's Meals Summer Internship Program is a paid project-based 12-week program beginning either May 18, 2026 thru August 7, 2026. Our project-based internship program provides participants with the training, coaching, and hands-on experience to be successful professionals in their chosen fields. Our internship assignments focus on practical, value added projects that help create a connection between what is learned in the classroom and what is required in manufacturing projects.
**_Internship location will be onsite in our corporate office in Ankeny, IA so candidates should be local to the Des Moines/Ames, IA area._** Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
+ Work on sensory/organoleptic panels to validate quality of new meals over time
+ Develop trends on data to help find gaps for improvement
+ Assist with research on new ingredients/regulations
+ Participate during the scale-up process of new meals
Required Skills and Experience
+ Currently pursuing a degree in a science related field (i.e. Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry)
+ College sophomore status or higher; minimum GPA of 2.8
+ Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

**Responsibilities**
POSITION SUMMARY:
The objective of a Food Safety/Quality Intern is to build capability and provide a pipeline of future talent for Michael Foods. An intern will be introduced to entry level activities, which include but are limited to Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) and HACCP principles.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Intern will learn the practical application of:
-Assist in drafting, revision, and plant standard operating procedures. (primary focus of this current position).
-Act as a liaison between Production, Distribution, Sanitation, Maintenance, and the Quality Department.
-Participate in plant food safety/quality inspections, in-process inspections.
-Verify sanitary condition of production lines prior to start-up and after downtime requiring maintenance activity.
-Perform investigative environmental swabbing of critical production equipment/areas as a troubleshooting guide.
-Expected to adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
-Performs other duties as assigned by site QA manager.
**Qualifications**
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
-High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
-Enrolled or attending an accredited 2 or 4-year college/university working towards a degree in Food Science, Biological Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Safety or a related field.
-Demonstrated proficiency in Excel and Word
-Data driven skills a plus.
-Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English) but not required.
