You will work on designs that push the possibilities of street style, wellness & luxury through footwear. This role will work on product ranging across Mens, Womens and inclusive product with the potential to work on performance and street footwear.

In your day to day, you will engage with project teammates on researching, gaining insights, problem solving around performance and manufacturing, working with athletes, and creating a vast range of inspiring and creative solutions. With each project, you are expected to also participate and present the work in both formal and informal reviews with design leadership and business partners. In addition to individual project work, the Designer II will also collaborate and engage their design teammates and Product Merch team.
As a Designer II, you will be working hand-in-hand with a multidisciplinary project team of accessory and footwear cross functional partners, while collaborating within the design community of your design peers within a small footwear team. The base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $130,000 per year which represents the current range for the base salary for this exempt position. Please note that actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. As such, on occasion and when applicable, there is the possibility that the final, agreed-upon base salary may be outside of the upper end of the range. Please also note the range listed is just one component of the company's total rewards package for exempt employees. The Designer's primary responsibility is to create footwear that is innovative, trend relevant, and to continue to evolve iconic classic styles that meet the needs of the Ariat consumers. This is an in-house position, based out of our Ariat headquarters in San Leandro, CA.
You'll Make a Difference By
- Working closely with fellow team members in product management, color and trend forecasting, design, and footwear development in the planning, creating, and developing of technical footwear lines.
- Consistently deliver innovative and appropriate design solutions under tight deadlines.

- Innovating in the 'finishing' level of design by creating 'firsts' in areas of pattern detail, construction, branding, molding, etc.
- Supporting brand directives through specific product design offerings.
- Traveling domestically and internationally when needed.
- Showing a command of all footwear skillsets, lead by example and be willing to share that knowledge though a can do/ team player attitude.
- Collaborating with all footwear categories as well as apparel teams to help create cohesive product lines.
- Supporting Design Director and Design VP for all aspects of design for Ariat Men's/Women's work and Outdoor footwear
- Helping create footwear tech packs for relay product information to the development team and factories.
- Helping create image/trend boards for forward thinking product often designed 2 years ahead of the market.
- Supporting the design team in all aspects of design for both men's and women's. Includes creating cads, renderings, image trend and material boards.
- Working with the materials team to identify materials needs and support the team in creating material board with multiple options going into merchandising.
- Come up with original artwork and concepts while also supporting the team with additional work that supports the entire line.
- Attending and researching outdoor and work footwear though the web, tradeshows, market travel etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum 2-5 years Work footwear knowledge or other technical footwear background.
- Become an integral team member that collaborates, takes direction, adds insight, and helps manage the workload.
- Strong proficiency in using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Technical footwear training/work required.
- 3D footwear rendering skillset preferred.
- Outdoor and/or Work footwear experience preferred.

A day in the life of a Footwear Designer for Timberland looks a little like this.
As a trusted member of our design team, you will report to the Senior Designer, Footwear. You will collaborate and liaise with the product development, merchandising, marketing and sales teams to gather ideas and create innovative products focused on our sneaker category.
Let's break down that day-in-the-life a bit more.
+ Create new footwear designs, graphics, color and materialize seasonal collections and partner with the product development team on crafting innovative footwear products and solutions
+ Produce a high level of output, typically three to six new footwear concepts and 10-15 color collections per season - Spring/Summer, Fall and Holiday
+ Utilize merchandising briefs to create footwear concepts and collections
+ Sketch and render footwear ideas and design seasonal graphics
+ Analyze and evaluate other designs and advise courteously
+ Execute footwear designs, seasonal color CADs and create a footwear tech pack
+ Research color and style trend analysis and communicate to the product development team via samples, trend boards, etc.
**What do you need to succeed?**
We all have unique skills that we bring to work and celebrate every day. For this role, there are foundational skills you'll need to succeed and excel. Additionally, while formal education in a related field is great to have, we are most interested in your 1+ years of related experience and training (a degree in Industrial or Fashion Design is preferred).
The foundational skills you will need in this position are:

**Senior Designer, Footwear - Women's & Special Projects (Timberland)**
**What will you do?**
A day in the life of a Senior Designer for Footwear at Timberland looks a little like this.
You will be responsible for product integrity and interpretation with respect to design, manufacturing, quality, and cost. You will work on products preparing technical fit specifications and collaborating with designers and factories to ensure that the specifications, measurements, fit, and construction are in keeping with the product brief. As a trusted member of our Global Footwear Design Team reporting to the VP, Design & Creative Direction, you will build relationships and partnerships across the Global Footwear Design, Global Footwear Development, and Global Merchandising teams with an openness to giving and receiving feedback and a shared focus on team collaboration to achieve the best result.
Let's break down that day-in-the-life a bit more. You will:
+ Initiate and provide focused, feasible, functional, commercial, and innovative footwear ideas that are appropriate for the Timberland brand, and the targets consumer in a timely manner, and aligns to the Creative Direction set for the season.
+ Be responsible for the creation of new lasts and outsoles, and will need to have a strong collection building mindset.
+ Support Innovation initiatives and be flexible to work on projects across categories, as needed.
+ Lead with a "Design First" point of view to bring innovation and brand-right products to the marketplace.
+ Create two- and three-dimensional sketches illustrating new, unique product ideas and innovative concepts which meet the expectations delineated in the product brief.
+ Use creative problem-solving skills to assist the Global Merchandising and Development teams in fulfilling product and calendar objectives quickly and efficiently.
+ Focus attention on the extent of the product briefs to support the category goals and objectives.
+ Develop an awareness of key accounts and channels of distribution derived from market insights and trends to ensure concept feasibility.
+ Follow the Brand's creative direction within the application and use of traditional and new materials, compounds, and constructions and color direction.
+ Gather and present fashion and trend inspiration and storyboards to support concepts relevant to projects.
+ Develop an understanding of the footwear category by following consumer trends through social media and utilizing trend resources.
+ Create unique graphic prints and elements for footwear applications on patterns and materials.
+ In conjunction with a product developer, prepare the approved design into a package of two- and/or three-dimensional information which adequately describes and utilizes current and feasible manufacturing and assembly techniques; while taking into consideration performance, fit, and costing objectives.
+ Maintain and provide a clear form of documentation and communication with team members to ease the transfer of the design solutions from concept through commercialization.
+ Occasionally travel to regional and global locations to present and execute design concepts with a focus on business (accounts), insight (consumer and market), and inspiration (trade and trend shows).
+ Work in partnership with the Design, Creative Direction, Merchandising, and Development teams to execute project direction, product process, cost targets, and deliverables.
+ Use creative problem-solving skills to assist cross-functional teams fulfill product and calendar objectives quickly and efficiently.
**What do you need to succeed?**

Additionally, while formal education in a related field, such as a bachelor's degree in art or design, is great to have, we are most interested in your 5+ years of experience and professional achievements, ideally with a focus on outdoor products.
The foundational skills you will need in this position are:
+ Experience with all aspects of product creation including, but not limited to:
+ Outsole creation and Blueprint experience
+ Technical package execution to Development.
+ A strong knowledge of fashion, trends, materials (leather, textiles) and color.
+ Solid communication skills and the ability to communicate concepts with digital renderings.
+ The ability to contribute and generate ideas with designers.
+ The propensity to respond quickly to multiple projects with strong time management skills.
+ A tenacious ability to set priorities and manage deadlines.
+ A highly organized and self-motivated mindset with a critical eye for detail.
+ The capability to work and build relationships with cross-functional teams.
+ Creative problem-solving skills to meet product and calendar objectives quickly and efficiently.

As an Expert Designer in Footwear you will be working hand-in-hand with a large project team of different professionals (engineers, researchers, scientists, marketing, testing, sustainability, materials, costing, etc.), collaborating within the design community (industrial designers, materials, color, graphics, computational, etc.), and mentoring other designers.
