Our packing room is the Grand Central of Open Hand. As you would imagine, with nearly 5,500 meals to prepare, package and deliver every day, the atmosphere is electric. But it’s not all work - the music is always on, and the friendly banter among new friends never ceases. It all makes for a very memorable and rewarding experience.
Description: Packing involves portioning food into individual containers and snack bags on our packing assembly line. With over 5,000 meals to package every day, your help is essential. This is a great project for individuals and families, and a great team-building exercise for school, business and church groups!
Volunteers are expected to stay for the entirety of their scheduled shift.
Volunteer Groups Alert: Reservations for Volunteer Groups (5 or more people) must be coordinated via the Volunteer Services Team. Please email or call if you are interested in bringing a group.
- Tennis shoes or nonslip/slip resistant shoes are required; no heels.
- Absolutely no jewelry of any kind . This includes but is not limited to rings, bracelets, watches, step-trackers, necklaces, earrings, gauges, cartilage, nose, and permanent piercings.
- Long pants are required.
- No sleeveless shirts or tank stops. A short sleeved t-shirt is fine. (The packing area can be a little chilly and a light jacket is recommended.)
- No headphones, ear buds, orBluetooth earpieces may be worn.
Age Requirements
For individuals or families of less than 5 people: Volunteers must be age 14 or older. All volunteers under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
For groups or families of 5 or more people: Every volunteer group with minors must follow the chaperone ratio: 1 adult per every 3 minor volunteers. Chaperones are required to remain with underage volunteers at all times. Groups of more than 5 must make a reservation by contact volunteer services at

**A Typical Work Day May Include:**
+ Operate all equipment associated with the boiler and elevator processes, including drags, conveyors, bean dryers, truck dump and rail dump.
+ Operate computerized and control systems in conjunction with departmental operations.
+ Process samples utilizing lab equipment to obtain and record values on a computer spreadsheet and collect samples for several process areas.
+ Ensure that the equipment is fully operational and in good repair.
+ Operate Bean Dryer, Truck Dump and Rail Dump.
+ Unload soybeans from rail cars.
+ Ensure accurate information of scale weights and transactions are recorded daily.
+ Process samples utilizing lab equipment to obtain and record values on a computer spreadsheet and collect samples for several process areas.
+ Monitor inventory of tanks by reading website on computer and/or ascending ladder to top of storage tanks to take physical tank measurements and determine when to switch tanks for operations.
+ Understand and adhere to the requirements of grain quality and storage.
+ Hand write tickets or use Stand Alone Scale Interface (SASI) if computer network goes down.
+ Inspects buildings, grounds and equipment utilized by facility; determine immediate and long-range needs for maintenance and repair work. Enter work orders utilizing maintenance computer program.
+ Assist truck drivers with loading or unloading of chemicals.
+ Troubleshoot minor problems.
+ Perform light maintenance.
**What You Will Need:**

Job Summary
This position requires a responsible Delivery Driver to distribute meals promptly to our program sites. You will represent our company in a professional and cost-effective manner with a goal of providing quality, efficient and effective program service. This position will be responsible for supporting a kitchen operation that prepares daily meals to be delivered to youth program sites in Sussex and Kent counties.
This is a temporary assignment - approximately 6-10 weeks.
Essential Functions
- Deliver meals to locations throughout Sussex & Kent counties
- Follow predetermined routes and time schedules
- Load, unload, prepare, inspect and operate a delivery vehicle
- Complete driver logs and delivery reports
- Follow DOT regulations and safety standards
- Take temperature of meals at time of loading to the van, and again at site delivery
- This position may also require occasional kitchen production-related duties, including packaging of meals and any other duties requested by Kitchen Manager or Assistant Kitchen Manager.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Must possess a valid driver's License for at least 3 years and no more than 5 points on driving record
- Ability to operate a delivery vehicle in a variety of weather and traffic conditions
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience in food delivery preferred
Working Conditions:
- Position requires occasional pushing of cart, bending, reaching and climbing
- Driving for prolonged period of time
- Frequent moderate to heavy lifting

Summary
Perdue AgriBusiness, LLC has an immediate opening for a Union Meal Loader at our facility on Barnes Road in Chesapeake, Virginia.
The Soy Meal Loader is responsible for safely operating equipment related to loading trucks and to accurately control the flow of information in the loadout process, including data entry to the scale system database, weighing trucks, preparing shipment samples, preparing samples for shipment to customers and referee labs, and ensuring exemplary customer service for business partners. To assist Process Operators in the administrative duties related to loading trucks in order to improve efficiency of the loading process. This is a rotating shift.
