We are currently seeking a **highly skilled Chinese Linguist** to join our mission-driven team. This position requires a language professional capable of performing a wide range of complex linguistic tasks with precision and cultural insight.
**What You'll Do:**
You will provide professional-level linguistic support across **translation, interpretation, transcription** , **and** **Gisting** including but not limited to:
**Translation**
+ Accurately translate materials (both digital and hard copy) **from Chinese into English and vice versa.**
+ Capture subtle nuances, cultural references, and abstract concepts with contextual accuracy.
+ Capture geopolitical, regional, ethnic, and cultural references effectively.
+ Use **terminology and expression** consistent with subject matter norms in the target language.
**Interpretation**
+ Provide **consecutive interpretation** ; **simultaneous interpretation** may occasionally be required.
+ Maintain high fidelity and fluency, demonstrating understanding of regional dialects and cultural context.
**Transcription**
+ Listen to audio or review internet-based content and transcribe accurately and efficiently.
+ Produce high-quality English-language reports based on audio/visual materials.
+ Demonstrate nuanced understanding of dialectical variations.
**Gisting and Summarization**
+ Identify and summarize key facts and abstract concepts accurately.
+ Prioritize and extract critical information from large datasets.
+ Use reference materials effectively to support quality output.
**What You Bring:**
+ **No clearance required to apply** .
+ **Able to obtain a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph** (must be fully adjudicated before work begins). Leidos will **sponsor candidates** after passing all the required language tests.
+ **Bachelor's degree with** **8 - 12** **years** of relevant experience OR **Master's degree with 6-10 years** of related experience. (Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.)
+ 3+ years of professional and recent **translation and interpretation experience**
+ **Translation and/or interpretation degree** is highly desired
+ **HLT** experience a plus
+ Must successfully complete a Leidos-administered language proficiency test or equivalent at the **Primary** **level or higher** .
+ Proficiency in **Microsoft Office Suite** and basic online research.
+ Strong **written and verbal communication** skills in both English and target languages.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Experience supporting contingency operations as a deployed linguist.
+ Familiarity with the U.S. Intelligence Community, military operations, or law enforcement environments.
+ Ability to effectively brief and communicate findings to various stakeholders.
+ Proficiency in multiple languages is a strong asset.

Our team is composed of professional qualified interpreters specialized in medical interpretation in the languages most often requested at MD Anderson: Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin.
All MD Anderson medical interpreters/translators are screened and qualified by the Language Access Services department and periodically evaluated for proficiency and competency.
SUMMARY:
Provides oral and written translation of patient care-related material.
?Our medical interpreters are involved in direct patient care whenever there is a language barrier. They are the voice of patients and staff. Interpreters will not answer patients' medical questions, but rather guide patients to the proper resources. All medical questions should be answered by the appropriate health care provider, and other patient concerns are to be handled by the staff specialized in the issue of concern.
* Provides oral translation of discussions related to patient referral, new patient registration, financial evaluation, patient assessment, treatment planning, admissions, discharge and other clinical and healthcare related discussions.

Under general supervision, provides interpretation and translation services in a medical setting for the Riverside University Health System (RUHS); serves as a patient advocate as needed; performs other related duties as required.
The Medical Interpreter/Translator - Per Diem reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. Incumbents facilitate communication between limited English proficiency (LEP) and non-English proficient patients and their family members with medical personnel or other ancillary staff and services. In addition, incumbents translate a variety of forms, documents, pamphlets, brochures, and miscellaneous correspondence for the department.
Incumbents in the Medical Interpreter/Translator - Per Diem classification are not eligible for bilingual compensation.
Per Diem personnel are distinguished from regular employees in that they receive additional compensation in lieu of County fringe benefits and work assignments may be on a flexible work hour schedule.
Other essential duties include but are not limited to the following:
Medical Interpreter-Translators (MITs) provide crucial language interpretation and translation services both in-person and virtually for Non-English Proficient (NEP) or Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients and their families, hospital staff and clinical and emergency departments. They work as a team to meet the increasing demand of language access services, must be able to use an electronic health record through a mobile device or computer to log all activity, have a keen understanding of cultural differences through cultural awareness. Must be able to effortlessly communicate through MS Teams (Training for all technical aspects of this position will be provided).
The most competitive candidates will have the following experience/education:
- National Certification though NBCI or CCHI or a state governmental organization is desired but not a requirement.
- Experience in healthcare interpreting is preferred over legal, business, or diplomatic interpreting but any professional interpreting is welcome.
- Knowledge or familiarity with the protocols and interpreting standards of practice set forth by the NCIHC are highly desired.
Please note the following:
- Healthcare experience would only be considered if the candidate worked in healthcare in a bilingual capacity helping patients and providers with communication. Remote healthcare interpreting experience is welcome.
- Personal interpreting for family members is not considered professional interpreting experience.

• Interpret complicated medical procedures, medical diagnoses, treatment options, and doctors' instructions regarding follow-up treatment and medical care required after hospitalization to non-English or limited English-speaking patients, their families and others on the need-to-know basis.
• Interpret patients' physical histories and symptoms of disorder; interpret to obtain informed consent to treatment from patient, next of kin or legal guardian.
• Explain hospital policies, procedures and protocols to patients and families; may assist in providing general information to the public.
• Perform a variety of translation services of health-related documents pertaining to patient information history, technical documents for teaching and/or marketing information related to patient care.
• Perform peer review of internal translations as a part of the translation quality control process.Education:
Graduation from high school, possession of a Certificate of Proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education, or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test.
Completion of a course in medical terminology of at least 3 semester units or 4.5 quarter units obtained from an accredited college, university, or program. (Six months as a certified nursing assistant, medical record clerk, medical assistant or similar position which provides knowledge of medical terminology may be substituted for the required course.)
Completion of a 40-hour interpreter training course designed to teach medical interpreting standards of practice and code of ethics.
Other Requirements
License/Certification: Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required.
Certification: National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI), Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) or certification from the State of California as an interpreter is highly desired.
Knowledge of: Principles of English and foreign language grammar, spelling and punctuation; foreign cultures; healthcare belief systems and their impact on patients' healthcare decisions and communication; commonly and vernacularly used medical terminology.
Ability to: Speak, read and write in English and one or more foreign languages; accurately and fluently interpret and translate from a foreign language into English clearly, confidently and vice versa to all interested parties; establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, their families, physicians, nurses, and fellow workers; work effectively with empathy and keep a calm demeanor with the very ill, injured and emotionally stressed; perform documentation, logging, texting, chatting, and other electronic communication using a mobile device, electronic tablet or computer; understand basic computer functions.Per Diem Benefits and Rates:

How you'll contribute
- Play an important part in helping our patient to recover and feel better about themselves by providing therapy to maximize speech, language, cognitive and swallowing abilities
- Communicate patient progress or problems to supervisor and other team members; assist with patient scheduling and post charges daily to patient records
- Document patient care in accordance with regulatory, licensing, payer and accrediting requirements
- Instruct patient's family or nursing staff in follow-through programs
- Maintain equipment and work area in a safe and clean condition
- Handle job responsibilities in accordance with the Company's Code of Business Conduct, the Corporate Compliance Agreement, appropriate professional standard and applicable state/federal laws
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and requirements:
- Graduate of a master's level program in Speech Language Pathology which is accredited by Education Standards Board or whose practice meets ASHA certification requirements
- Meet the education and experience requirements for Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology or Audiology granted by ASHA
- Minimum of six months speech therapist / speech language pathologist experience working with an adult and geriatric population
- Current and unrestricted Speech Language Pathologist license in the state where services are rendered
- Current CPR certification
- Strong organizational and communication skills
