Role Description
This is a full-time role for a Fundraiser, located in Cornelius, NC. The Fundraiser will be responsible for developing and executing fundraising campaigns, engaging with donors, organizing events, and managing donor databases. Additionally, the Fundraiser will work on cultivating relationships with both individual and corporate donors, ensuring continuous support for Operation Helos mission. Position Overview
The Assistant Director of Development will understand the mission, needs and value proposition of the university and the office of Scholarship and Student Support (SASS) and build relationships with prospective donors to increase philanthropic support. Donors such as alumni, friends, and/or grateful patients will be identified by listening for opportunities to align their interests and passions with opportunities to donate to the university.
The aim of the role is to actively manage a portfolio of prospective donors to be asked for gifts of up to $99,000 and to build a pipeline of major gift donors for the future. Preparation for the ask will include creative and strategic utilization of resources to determine the prospective donors capacity for giving, build their interest, raise their sights, sustain their engagement and obtain a gift. Success in the position will be guided by annual metrics such as number of monthly meetings, number of gift commitments, and dollars raised. Central resources such as a robust donor database, and reporting and analytics tools exist to help the role achieve goals.
The Assistant Director reports to the Senior Director of Development and operates with a high degree of independence to make decisions, solve problems, negotiate and adapt to shifting priorities. Expectations include stellar communications and interactions with constituents, frequent collaboration with colleagues across the college, Advancement and the university and Wexner Medical Center, diplomacy, and discretion. A curious person who is not afraid to pick up the phone and be entrepreneurial will do well as an Assistant Director. This role requires frequent workweek travel including approximately one or two overnight trips per month, regular in-state travel and occasional evening and weekend work.

Department Overview
Scholarship and Student Support (SaSS) directly supports the Office of Student Academic Excellence (OSAE) in the Office of the Provost. OSAE provides students with experiences and programs that help them succeed academically and prepare them for their lives after graduation. Development Officers on the SaSS team work alongside stewardship, marketing and communication colleagues and fundraising professionals that support the Office of Student Life, the Office of Diversity & Inclusion, and Parent Fundraising.
Duties and Responsibilities
Identifies, qualifies, and cultivates a portfolio of prospective gift donors. Pursues connections and discovers donor values, capacity, interests and passions. Ensures quality and positive momentum within assigned portfolio to convert prospects to donors. Builds context for gift proposals, develops and implements strategic gift solicitations.
10% - Other
Maximizes opportunities to steward donors to further enhance relationships. Attends college and/or university events to engage with prospects and donors.
Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Metrics and Collaboration
The annual performance of all fundraisers at Ohio State is measured by the number of qualifications, cultivations, solicitations and commitments/dollars raised the individual accrues over each fiscal year. Each fundraiser may have different expectations regarding these figures based upon, but not limited to, their experience level, unit size, prospect portfolio, past performance, etc. Goal setting is done with the individuals manager prior to each fiscal year to assure transparency, consistency and alignment.
All fundraisers at Ohio State are encouraged and expected to collaborate with their colleagues throughout the University, Medical Center and within the Department of Athletics. Collaboration efforts can include but are not limited to: working with another academic unit or the Medical Center to collaborate on a gift from a donor, collaborating internally with the research office, faculty members and leadership to learn and discuss priorities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education/experience.
- Two years of professional fundraising experience or professional transferable experience (i.e. managing relationships with required measurable output, making calls, conducting face-to-face appointments, creating and presenting proposals, and other fundamental elements of client relationship or sales-related activities).

- At least two years of professional fundraising experience raising the highest level of philanthropic gifts at an organization.
- At least two years of professional fundraising experience in higher education or a hospital/health care environment.

Serve as the account manager for other key solicitors such as Board Members. Working closely with other members of the development team, support board member fundraising activity with donor research, materials preparation and relevant follow-up.
Identify and cultivate foundation prospects and work with colleagues to submit relevant requests and reports.
Serves as a project manager on various Development programs and activities, i.e. Crowd funding Campaign, Momentum Auction, Momentum Grand trip, Aspen Wellness; and assists on company-wide programs as a representative of the development team.
Supports the VP of Development in creating the annual development strategy and plan for the organization.
Attends targeted industry conferences that support annual stewardship and cultivation goals.
Conducts donor research and draft proposals as needed to maximize relationship building and strategy implementation.
Effectively utilizes the donor database (Sales Force) with timely and detailed entries and relevant reporting.

Departmental Overview
The Athletic Development Office, which is the sole fundraising group for IA, is comprised of teams of individuals who focus on major gifts, annual giving, athletic campaigns, and alumni relations. This position is responsible for helping to meet the fundraising objectives of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and ensuring that predetermined fundraising goals with regard to major gifts are met.

The Assistant/Associate Director, Leadership Annual Giving , uses skills as a seasoned, experienced fundraising professional. - Cultivate, Solicit and Steward Annual Fund Donors: Identify and manage a portfolio of at least 125 annual fund prospects which includes primarily individuals with specific affiliation and/or giving interest to Cal Athletics. Work to establish and manage effective relationships prospects and annual fund donors. Identify and evaluate potential donors; design and implement prospect cultivation and solicitation strategies. Complete 10 to 15 substantive contacts per month with an emphasis on quality personal visits. Provide stewardship for assigned prospects.
- Thorough working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
- Thorough working knowledge of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies.
- Strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills, including skills in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification / avoidance / resolution, and project management skills.
- Strong skills in maintaining confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team oriented environment and collaborate on projects and assignments.
- Ability to oversee multiple projects and quickly discern complex and competing interests.
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $87,000 - $100,000, commensurate with experience.
