Performs a variety of installation, maintenance, alteration, replacement, preventive maintenance and repair tasks on various plumbing fixtures, piping (water, waste, drainage and heating) and systems support equipment, including swimming pool and irrigation systems throughout the various facilities.
Include all aspects of the plumbing trade, designing and installing new installations and modifications to existing systems, repairs to all types of piping and piping systems. Cover the duties of the Heating System Mechanic when assigned.
Performing all assigned duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with Town and Board policies and follows all federal, state and municipal code and ordinances that affect the work being accomplished. These include OSHA and EPA regulations, state licensing requirements, and State and Local code requirements, as well as any other laws, regulations, ordinances, policies, etc. that may apply.
Skills and abilities
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings, particularly as they pertain to plumbing, irrigation and heating systems and controls. Ability to operate and maintain all tools and equipment used in these trades. Ability to lift a maximum of fifty(50)pounds. Ability to crawl into and work in confining spaces, such as pipe chases/tunnels, top of, or behind, boilers, and from ladders or staging on overhead pipes, boilers, equipment, etc., safely and in accordance with all laws and regulations pertaining to the work including OSHA confined space regulations.
Minimum qualifications
This person shall; (1) be a U.S. Citizen, (2) be a vocational, trade or high school graduate, or have completed the G.E.D., (3) possess a valid drivers license and a clean driving record, (4) have the ability to read and write the English language at the 8th grade level, and (5) possess the ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings as they pertain to the particular trade. Must hold CT P1 license for plumbing and S2 license for heating. An F1 or F2 license for fire protection would be a plus. At least five (5) years experience in the plumbing trade and two (2) years experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of low pressure steam and circulating hot water boilers. Must have demonstrable experience in the servicing and maintaining of HVAC equipment, and working knowledge of pneumatic controls, air compressors, and related equipment.
Working Conditions
Subject to exposure to inadequate light and ventilation. Will be required to wear eye, face, head, hand, foot, hearing and respiratory protection when needed. Will be required to follow all safety procedures at all times. The Board of Education will provide safety equipment required for the safe conduct of the work in accordance with state and federal regulations, town policies and bargaining unit contract. Physical demands
Stands, walks, stoops, kneels, lifts, and works in all types of positions. Must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum. Must be able to handle the physical demands of the job, and work at heights on roofs, power hoists, ladders and staging.

What you’ll do:
The Industrial Vacuum Furnace Maintenance Technician is responsible for inspecting, servicing, and repairing industrial vacuum furnace systems used for heat treating materials in order to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime in order to support production goals.
• Diagnose and repair, under minimal supervision, complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues associated with industrial vacuum furnaces and ovens across all facilities.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on industrial vacuum furnaces, ovens, and related equipment to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal functionality.
• Identify and source parts, supplies, and repair items as necessary. Perform evaluations of alternatives to improve cost and / or reliability of equipment.
• Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to coordinate furnace and oven repairs and upgrades, minimizing production disruptions.
• Document maintenance procedures, repairs, and system performance for compliance and operational records.
• Supervise and train junior maintenance staff on best practices when applicable.
• Follow all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines.
Qualifications:

• Understands electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Can analyze the problem, synthesize alternative solutions, and perform repairs.
Position Criteria:
• Complies with all national and local safety and environmental standards, guidelines and policies e.g. ISO14001.
• Understanding of how to use precision gauging instruments.
• Ability to proactively work with other team members under limited supervision.
• This position requires standing and/or walking for an entire eight – twelve hours.
• Ability to comprehend and follow technical standards and maintenance procedures. Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
• Knowledge of operating lift truck, material handling equipment, man lifts and hand tools.
• Proven ability to run a machine with multiple settings or specifications
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics and drawings.
• Ability to diagnose issues across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to setup and operate multiple machining and welding operations in order to make or repair parts.

Principal Accountabilities
- Familiar with all utility systems and equipment
- Knowledge of industrial refrigeration, commercial HVAC equipment and cold storage blast operations
- Ability to operate and run diagnostics checks on a variety of equipment and systems
- Working understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical power transmissions
- Good understanding of computer management systems and Office products (Excel, Word…)
- Good understanding of basic troubleshooting processes of mechanical and electrical systems and help recommend corrective designs and make needed repairs
- Familiar with all levels of machine PM’s and be able to work in a cold environment down to -40 and willing to work at heights up to 36 feet
- Must be able to train and be certified in Hazmat A Entry
Required Qualifications
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
- Must be 18 years or older
- Good communication skills (reading, written and oral) required
- Excellent work performance and able to access a computer from home 24/7
- Must be willing to work scheduled department hours and weekends and overtime as required
- Demonstrate professional working relationships and has the ability to interact effectively with production management, quality assurance and contractors
- Demonstrate ability to perform the task of the job
- Ability to work in extreme cold for extended periods of time (<32F to -35F)
- Ability to be fitted, wear and work in a full face respirator
- Able and willing to obtain RETA CARO and CIRI certifications
- Ability to work on call rotation
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous production/maintenance/refrigeration experience
- Previous Cargill experience
- Work history in the past 12 months
