Job Description
**The Position**
A healthier future. It's what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That's what makes us Genentech.
As Principal Manager, Internal Communications within Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED), you will serve as both a strategic partner and hands-on communications lead, supporting two core functions: Development Science (DevSci) & Translational Medicine (TM). This is a dual-facing role that requires balancing the distinct needs, cultures, and leadership styles of two critical functions while also connecting their stories to gRED's broader vision and to Roche and Genentech enterprise priorities.
You will partner closely with the leadership teams of DevSci and TM to shape and co-create communication strategies that drive organizational clarity, scientific momentum, and employee engagement. At the same time, you will roll up your sleeves to deliver content, manage channels, and orchestrate events that bring those strategies to life.
This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of two scientific organizations that together accelerate the path from research to medicine. You will have a seat at the table with senior leaders, helping to craft the narrative for how DevSci and TM contribute to gRED's mission to revolutionize drug discovery and development.
This position reports to the Senior Director, Head of Internal Communications for gRED.
**The Opportunity**
+ Serve as the primary communications business partner to the leadership teams of both Development Science and Translational Medicine.
+ Shape and execute tailored communications strategies and tactics that reflect the unique cultures and scientific priorities of each function while highlighting their shared contributions to gRED.
+ Provide strategic counsel to senior leaders and act as a trusted advisor on how communications can drive engagement, alignment, and impact.
+ Lead the development and execution of communications plans, including leadership messages, internal articles, newsletters, employee town halls, and digital/multimedia storytelling.
+ Partner across gRED and with colleagues at Genentech and Roche to ensure alignment of messaging, strategy, and timing.
+ Set goals and measure the effectiveness of communications through metrics and employee feedback.
+ Actively cultivate a culture of experimentation, agility, and creativity, applying best practices to deliver innovative, high-impact communications.
**Who you are**
+ BS/BA required
+ 8-10 years of experience in a communications role within a large, matrixed organization
+ Biotech or pharma experience, ideally in research, early development, translational medicine, or development science
+ Proven track record in both strategic communications planning and hands-on content creation and channel management
+ Extensive experience developing messaging and communication strategies that engage employees and support business goals
+ Demonstrated ability to engage directly with senior management, with minimal oversight
+ Strong understanding of executive communications, employee engagement, and event management
**Preferred qualifications**
+ Science background strongly preferred
+ Experience in change management communications is a plus
+ Experience in both internal and external communications a plus
+ Consulting experience a plus
Relocation benefits are not available for this position.
