Job Title: Sr Geoscientist
We are currently staffing a Senior Geoscientist opportunity for our Oil & Gas / Energy Renewables client located in Reston, VA.
Position Type: 12-month contract to possible perm
Pay Rate: $60-$77/hr
Responsibilities:
- Support senior staff by performing standard hydrogeological tasks, integrating inputs from geology, hydrology, and engineering disciplines to interpret data and develop conceptual site models.
- Conduct numerical groundwater flow modeling using commercial or open-source software to support engineering designs, safety evaluations, and environmental assessments.
- Participate in fieldwork activities such as site characterization, groundwater well installation, aquifer testing, and water quality sampling.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, data analyses, calculations, and project presentations under the guidance of senior team members.
- Review geotechnical reports from subcontractors and provide professional feedback, including recommendations for improvement.
- Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes communication, trust, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Basic Qualifications:
Education & Experience (Grade 26):
- Master’s degree in Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology, or a related Geosciences field with at least 8 years of progressive experience, or
- Ph.D. in a related discipline with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
Technical Proficiency:
- Skilled in using geology and hydrogeology software tools such as MODFLOW, AQTESOLV, Leapfrog, and OpenGround.
- Competent in Microsoft Office and other relevant tools for data analysis and reporting (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing, visualization tools).
Additional Requirements:
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a solid foundation in both geoscience and engineering principles.
- Familiarity with engineering documentation such as specifications, material requisitions, and construction drawings.
- Understanding of multidisciplinary project workflows and interdependencies.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in diverse team environments.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel and remain on project sites for extended durations as required.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
