Job Title: Staff Software Development Engineer
Maxar is looking for an enthusiastic Staff Software Development Engineer to join its MGP integrations team, with a passion for solving complex problems with customer driven objectives and is willing to learn and develop the tools and technologies related to GIS applications.
Our talented MGP integrations team at Maxar consists of full stack developers, Enterprise Architects and database experts who work closely together to build plugins, dashboards, tools and workflows for our Geospatial Products and Production systems supporting our internal and external stakeholders.
Location: Westminster, CO or Herndon VA

Your Project: This role would require the team member to be a quick learner and a senior contributor who would develop full stack solutions to enable and automate workflows within client-side software and also web based
applications. You will contribute your expertise to develop front-end UI and also back-end architecture necessary to meet customer requirements. You will be responsible for gathering customer requirements, driving toward deadlines, collaborating with the eGIS DBA to build the add-ins for GIS applications. You would be occasionally tasked with upgrading the GIS environment and infrastructure maintenance and deployments. You will assist with training, documentation, and presentations related to custom solutions.
This position is hybrid with several days a week on-site with your colleagues in Westminster, CO or Herndon, VA
What you'll do day-to-day (with your colleagues):
Develop new ESRI/ QGIS related add-ins using the SDK, webapps and tools to support internal and external stake holders.
Adapt mission requirements to develop new tools, capabilities, or enhance/upgrade existing ones.
Incorporate customer feedback into software products.
Participate in code reviews to ensure quality.
Write and optimize ETLs in both Linux and Windows environments using scripting languages: Python and other ancillary languages with associated libraries.
Expand the company's geospatial capabilities with open-source and cloud native services and software and integrate with other third party applications.
Develop tools or workflows to assist other production teams like Vivid, Tasking, Collection Planning and other Constellation Management teams.
Collaborate with other developers throughout the development process, both those on your immediate team and those on other teams that build supporting software.
Evolve your language skills by staying current with complementary programming languages, development methodologies, user interface design techniques, and database tools and technologies.
Minimum requirements for this position:
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Bachelor's degree in related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience. Desired degree's include Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Geosciences, Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience
3-5 years of strong coding experience in Python, C#
GIS experience and knowledge of raster & imagery
Experience with GIS technology in an operational environment via ESRI ArcPro, ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap and Catalog), or QGIS.
Experience with AWS devops and automation tools (Docker, Kubernetes ) is required
Minimum 2Years experience working in a cloud-based environment
Technical Skills:Proficient in SQL, database design, and data modeling. Experience with AWS CLI, SDKs
Familiarity with writing complex queries using database languages.
Must be able to quickly shift priorities due to business and/or customer requests.
Ability to work in a geographically dispersed, collaborative team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.

Experience writing high-quality and thorough documentation
Experience creating data visualization via dashboards, PPTs, Tableau
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience
Strong troubleshooting skills

The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.
* The base pay for this position within Colorado is: $98,000.00 - $164,000.00 annually.For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.

This role is ideal for engineers who love working with Angular and Esri’s ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript, and who want to solve real-world problems with elegant, performant web applications.
As a Senior GIS Software Engineer , you’ll lead the design, development, and maintenance of rich, interactive web mapping applications. You’ll be part of a cross-functional team that includes project managers, designers, GIS analysts, and back-end developers. This is a senior-level role that offers technical leadership, architectural influence, and the opportunity to mentor others.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable GIS web applications using Angular and ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript
- Integrate geospatial functionality into custom applications for clients in sectors such as natural resources, transportation, and emergency management
- Work closely with UX/UI designers to build responsive and accessible front-end solutions
- Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions, promoting clean code and modern web standards
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and provide technical insight
- Stay current with industry trends and Esri’s evolving APIs and SDKs
- Contribute to architectural decisions and help modernize existing applications
Skills and Requirements of a successful candidate should have the following, but are not limited to:
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Angular (current versions) in a production environment
- 3+ years of experience with Esri’s JavaScript API or ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript
- Strong understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript, RESTful APIs, and asynchronous programming
- Experience working with geospatial data (e.g., services, layers, symbology, map views, editing workflows)
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and sprint-based planning
- Passion for clean, maintainable code and front-end performance
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with other geospatial libraries (OpenLayers, Mapbox, Leaflet)
- Familiarity with GIS SaaS and server technologies (ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, GeoServer)
- Knowledge and experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing tools
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS or Azure)
