Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking for a **Staff Engineer Guidance Navigation Controls** to support the Vehicle Engineering organization in **Redondo Beach, CA** .
The selected candidate will support research and development of flight control algorithms for manned and unmanned air vehicles. This is a dynamic and fun organization involved in deploying forward-leaning avionics, guidance, navigation, and control systems for developmental concepts for air vehicles, weapons, and many more platforms.
Responsibilities:
+ Lead and design, develop, implement, verify, and test algorithms, software, and simulation tools to perform guidance, navigation and control (GNC) of autonomous unmanned aircraft.
+ Lead control law development to meet air vehicle performance, flying qualities and stability margin requirements, both on ground and in flight.
+ Design outer and inner loop control laws, and associated logic and autonomy functions.
+ Develop air vehicle system linear and non-linear dynamic simulation models and integrate models into software and hardware-in-the-loop simulation environments.
+ Perform performance and flying qualities analysis.
+ Support non-linear simulation and hardware-in-the-loop lab testing.
+ Support flight test activities and analyze air vehicle flight test data.
Basic Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 12 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in STEM with 10 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in STEM with 8 years of related engineering experience.
+ Working knowledge of fixed-wing aircraft flight dynamics.
+ Experience using linear control principles and tools to design feedback control systems.
+ Experience analyzing non-linear simulations of aircraft closed-loop dynamics.
+ Working knowledge of autopilot functions.
+ Working knowledge of outer loop control law performance requirements.
+ Experience using MATLAB to create, process, analyze, and visually represent data.
+ Experience using Simulink to model dynamic systems.
+ Experience designing autopilot functions.
+ Experience with logic, modes, and states for autonomous aircraft.
+ Experience with Python and/or C/C++ programming.
+ Ability and willingness to travel up to 100% of the time.
+ Must have an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Education).

+ Familiar with in-flight routing behaviors for Sense and Avoid, and 4D keep out/keep in zones

Primary Level Salary Range: $171,000.00 - $256,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. + Support simulation and software development

Use various software languages, C, C++, FORTRAN, Python, etc. to develop, implement, integrate and test vehicle models and controllers
Support design of flight control laws using modern linear control design techniques and tools to achieve design and performance targets
Use advanced nonlinear analysis to assess and refine the control law design
Perform model validation against test data to inform and improve the accuracy of the simulation environment
Develop supplementary controllers, limiters, mode logic, and signal shaping to properly bound the performance within all areas of the flight envelope
Work with flight simulation and Vehicle Management Systems (VMS) software engineers to incorporate control laws into the operational flight program
Support flight simulations including desktop, software, and real time simulations
