Education/Training. At hire, must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Authorized by the Alabama Board of Nursing (ABON) to practice as a graduate nurse and has received a "Graduate Nurse" letter, or temporary license. Authorized to take the NCLEX by the examination vendor. Licensure/Certification At hire, must obtain Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) multistate RN license within three (3) months of placement in this job. BLS/Healthcare Provider certification. ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas. NRP is required for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Essential responsibilities include: Administers bedside patient care in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting under the supervision of a preceptor, leader, and/or charge nurse. Assesses patients' needs and develops/revises individualized plans of care based on their needs and responses. Evaluates patients' progress toward attaining expected outcomes. Functions as an advocate for patients and their families. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit/ department. Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and the interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage the unit/department. Serves as a role model for staff and supports the hospital and nursing department's goals and strategies. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, assesses data reflective of the patient's status, and interprets the necessary information to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age- specific needs. Coordinates patient care for a defined group and delegates tasks appropriately to team members. Documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner, meeting all required and regulatory standards. This includes, but is not limited to, patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety. Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and the use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit/department-specific requisite skills. Prioritizes patient care in an ongoing manner in accordance with Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care. Demonstrates caring practices by providing a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families. Demonstrates awareness of legal issues and patients' rights. Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located. Graduate nurses must complete licensure examination within SIX MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 6 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.

The final job title and pay rate will be based on individual qualifications and candidate choice. The minimum rate of pay for a non-BSN Professional Staff Nurse is 34.25/hour.
Graduate Nurses must be eligible for State Board Licensure and successfully pass the examination before beginning this role OR ability to start with TPP and must obtain license within 4 months of beginning position. Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education.
Qualifications:
* ASN Required. BSN Preferred.
* Completion of UPMC Student Nurse Internship Program or student clinical transitions course at UPMC preferred
* The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
* They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients' requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
* Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
* Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
* Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
* Good clinical judgment.
* Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
* Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse required prior to program start date OR must have a Temporary Practice Permit and commit to taking the NCLEX examination with four months of hire.
* CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
* Act 34 Criminal Clearance
* Basic Life Support
