will join the 'Materials Modeling And characTerization under Extreme Environments' team within the MST-8 group. The MATEE team focuses on the development and use of advanced computational mechanics models to predict the effects of extreme and complex environments on both mechanical response and microstructure evolution in materials. The environments considered include high stresses, temperatures, radiation, and corrosion. The MATEE team adopts both hierarchical and integrated multiscale modeling and characterization strategies for mechanical deformation problems in the Material Science and Technology division.
You should have a strong publication record, an interdisciplinary research philosophy, and the ability to effectively communicate with researchers with varied backgrounds. As a postdoctoral research associate, you will be given the opportunity to publish results in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and to present at well-known conferences. The position is for two years, with a third year possible based on performance and funding.
The successful candidate will lead the development of a phase field-based model to predict metals corrosion in molten salt reactor environments Advanced knowledge of thermodynamics and of electrochemistry. A strong background in phase field modeling method will also be preferable materials.

This Electromagnetics Effects Intern role will evaluate, analyze, and measure EM properties of advanced materials and configurations as well as model and analyze EME configurations to aid in new aircraft design. Successful candidates will also develop new EM digital engineering processes to be deployed across the Boeing Company and with our customers. Role responsibilities will include:
+ Perform modeling, simulation, and other forms of analysis to predict performance and to optimize designs around established requirements with respect to EME, Lightning Direct Effects, Lightning Zoning, and Lightning Indirect Effects.
+ Assist in the development and feedback of software tools and workflows in EME processes to include testing, modeling, analysis, and simulation
+ Assist in laboratory testing and test planning to characterize electromagnetic properties and failure modes of materials with respect to EME, Lightning Direct Effects, and Lightning Indirect Effects
+ Collect and analyze data on supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance with requirement

**What is Graduate Researcher Program?**
The GRP (Graduate Researcher Program) is a unique 10-12 week internship program designed specifically for students pursuing their PhD. GRP is a hybrid experience of real-world industry work experience combined with development programming that exposes students to Boeing, its products, services and its people. GRP focuses on deeply connecting students to their team and Boeing through work experience across multiple summers with the goal of ultimately offering a full-time position at the conclusion of academic studies if a mutual fit is achieved.
**How GRP Works** :
GRP host teams post opportunities aligned with Boeing needs in hopes of matching to top PhD talent. Upon application and selection, successful applicants receive an offer to spend the following summer with the host team. The program aims to provide interns with a valuable opportunity to gain deeper experience at Boeing with their host team, while applying academic skills and expertise to help solve real-world industry challenges and opportunities.
In addition to industry work exposure, students will attend GRP programming to further broaden their experience and knowledge of Boeing. GRP programming includes: mentorship in your field of study, weekly _Featured Speaker Talks_ , a week-long in-person _GRP Summit_ , participation in an _Innovation Challenge_ , and other opportunities to interact and build a professional network with other GRP students, Boeing team members, and leadership.
Please note: The work you do at Boeing can be related to your area of study, but _cannot_ contribute or be used in your PhD thesis.

We are seeking students who will have completed their first year of study in their PhD program by July 2026 and are passionate about the aerospace industry and Boeing. GRP students excel at quickly adapting to their roles, analyzing complex problems, and developing innovative solutions. They thrive in collaborative team environments and possess excellent communication skills. Above all, they are driven to contribute to the success of their team, fellow GRP students, and Boeing.
**2026 GRP Position** :
At Boeing, we focus on understanding the fundamental quantum physics in the lab, the associated engineering needed to mature these physics concepts, and the opportunities to take quantum from the lab onto moving platforms, such as submarines, airplanes, or satellites. This exciting vision at Boeing seeks creative, motivated, and transformational thinkers and doers who want to grow as scientists, engineers, and leaders; deliver technologies; and change the future of sensing, networking, and communication.
Interns will apply their knowledge of quantum physics, atomic physics or optics / photonics to build a comprehensive suite of capabilities in experimental quantum sensing or quantum networking. This position requires advancing product development goals while staying involved with fundamental quantum science research.
Some of the responsibilities include:
+ Integrate quantum physics, atomic physics or optics systems and components into higher level systems and platforms
+ Develop and perform experiments related to quantum sensing, quantum networking, and related topics
+ Support trade studies, modeling, simulations and other forms of analysis to predict component, interconnects and system performance and to optimize designs around established requirements
+ Conduct critical experimental tests to validate the performance of designs with respect to application requirements
+ Document research findings in internal technical reports, internal presentations, invention disclosures or peer reviewed articles and conference presentations as prioritized within specific projects
**This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.**

**Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):**
+ Completed the first year of PhD studies by July 2026
+ Pursuing a PhD in Physics or Electrical Engineering
+ Experience with Quantum physics, hardware and software
+ Candidates need to have a foundational understanding of both theory and laboratory practices relevant to either: quantum sensing or quantum networking.
+ Enrolled student attending a college or university with an expected graduation date on or after August 2026
+ Ability to work full-time for 10-12 weeks during Summer 2026
**Preferred Qualifications** :
+ Experience in free space quantum networking or sensors is desired but not required.
