This Software Engineer III role is part of the Experience API team, which powers the GraphQL platform behind mission-critical traffic across Expedia Group. We design and operate the core GraphQL infrastructure, including high-throughput federated routers and schema tooling. Were solving complex challenges in API performance, schema evolution at scale, and platform reliability. Much of our work is in uncharted territory, requiring thoughtful architecture and tight feedback loops with internal users. We're looking for an engineer who is excited about building high-performance distributed systems and shaping how modern platforms are built.
In this role, you will:
Design, build, and develop the core GraphQL platform, including the router, schema workflows, and supporting infrastructure
Provide technical support and guidance to platform users
Collaborate with multiple engineering teams to find solutions that improve developer productivity
Optimize existing observability and monitoring solutions
Participate in code reviews to assess overall code quality and flexibility
Drive continuous improvement and continuous delivery in our software development process within an agile development team
Experience & Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
5+ years of hands-on software development experience, ideally in large-scale or enterprise environments
Proven experience designing, developing, and maintaining robust, scalable, high-throughput applications
Experience developing features with Rust and Kotlin , and a solid understanding of API design in GraphQL services. Experience with Rust is highly preferred.
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Experience with cloud architecture and platforms such as AWS
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins, Spinnaker, or GitHub Actions
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $137,500.00 to $92,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to 220,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individuals knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.

Pay Transparency
Base Salary: $55,000.00 - $152,375.00
Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data and on individual skills, experience, and education. This role is incentive eligible with the payment based upon company, business and/or individual performance.
