+ The Animal Care Technician I will change and/or clean soiled animal cages and/or pens, feeding devices and watering devices.
+ Evaluate the basic health status of animals and reports abnormalities to the appropriate personnel. Clean/sanitize at regular intervals direct and indirect animal contact surfaces by washing with appropriate detergents/disinfectants.
+ Record daily animal care activities on room check-sheets, enter work activities into database, and contact appropriate personnel regarding dead/sick animals via e-mail or phone.
+ Collect soiled animal bedding and other wastes and transports to designated waste disposal sites (i.e. cage wash room or dumpster).
+ Procure animal feed, bedding and supplies from appropriate support areas and transport to required use site. Weigh, administer medications, breed, record breeding status data, euthanize, restrain, and transport laboratory animals as directed by supervisor or veterinarian.
+ Scan cage cards to record animal census in the animal rooms and posts reports every week.
+ Select, prepare, dispense and utilize hazardous chemicals and disinfectants according to manufacturer's instructions in cleaning and sanitizing animal rooms, racks, cages and pens and animal support areas.
+ Operate mechanical equipment such as floor buffers, high pressure washers, laundry equipment, and environmental monitoring equipment for cleaning/sanitizing purposes.
+ Clean/sanitize/disinfects animal holding rooms, procedure rooms, support rooms.
+ On occasion may be required to drive a University vehicle to transport animals in cases of emergency.

We are seeking a dedicated Animal Care Technician responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and proper functioning of our animal care facilities. The role involves handling animals with care, ensuring their well-being, and maintaining a clean and organized environment to support research activities.
Responsibilities
+ Clean and sanitize animal cages and related environmental items.
+ Perform daily routine maintenance checks on automated cage wash machines.
+ Prepare appropriate housing for the receipt of new animals and assist with receiving animals.
+ Report the need for equipment repair, such as cages and racks, to appropriate personnel.
+ Sanitize floors, walls, and other surfaces in the automatic cage wash area and other lab areas.
+ Maintain a clean and organized cage wash area and storage area.
+ Complete animal care technical duties, including changing liners and sanitizing animal room walls and floors.
+ Receive, store, and distribute animal husbandry supplies.
+ Perform limited troubleshooting and calibration of instruments in the assigned area.
+ Prepare environmental enrichment items, both edible and durable.
+ Operate basic lab equipment and perform routine maintenance as needed.
+ Prepare study and colony supplies as needed.
Essential Skills
+ Experience in husbandry and animal handling.
+ Knowledge of cleaning and maintenance of a research vivarium.
+ Ability to problem solve and make quick decisions.
+ Effective verbal and written communication skills at all organizational levels.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Work Environment

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Perform routine animal husbandry duties and monitor daily health and welfare to maintain quality and health of animals.
+ Handle, transfer, and distribute animals, supplies and waste as needed to and from work area(s).
+ Monitor animal health by observing animal behavior, physical appearance, and physical environment. Identify and report any abnormal findings.
+ Responsible for collecting health monitoring swabs and following health monitoring schedules.
+ Perform physical environment housekeeping duties and production operations according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and/or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
+ Maintain recordkeeping pertaining to animal or supply area inventories.
+ Strictly follow all procedures necessary to maintain the barrier room barrier.
+ Use supplies according to safety guidelines. Perform all job-related duties in accordance with company safety procedures.
+ Colony Management
+ Perform all other related duties as assigned.
**QUALIFICATIONS:**

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS:**
+ Regularly required to utilize a computer/tablet.
