Group Therapy Counselor Position Summary:
The Substance Abuse Group Counselor to facilitate group therapy sessions for individuals struggling with substance use disorders. The counselor will provide education, support, and guidance to help clients develop coping strategies and work toward recovery. This role involves working closely with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to promote a supportive and structured treatment environment.
Group Therapy Counselor Job Responsibilities:
- Facilitate group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, relapse prevention, coping skills, and mental health.
- Monitors client interaction and behaviors. Provides a role model for the program participants.
- Writes group and individual progress notes to document their interactions and services completed.
- Responsible for contributing to the upkeep and cleanliness of the residence.
- Completes all required documentation, in timelines in accordance with program standards.
- Provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment for clients to share and grow.
- Educate clients about substance use disorders, mental health, and healthy coping mechanisms.
- Monitor clients’ progress, behavior, and engagement in group therapy.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of client progress and participation.
- Recognize and respond to crisis situations appropriately, including referrals for higher levels of care if necessary.
- Stay updated on best practices in substance abuse treatment and incorporate new methods into counseling sessions.
- Completes all required documentation, in timelines in accordance with program standards
Group Therapy Counselor Qualifications:
Skills:
Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Knowledge of addiction treatment models, relapse prevention strategies, and mental health disorders.
Ability to create a positive, inclusive, and structured group environment.
Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and documentation requirements.
Education:
HS Diploma required. Bachelors or Associates and/or related experience preferred. CASAC or CASAC-T preferred but not required.
Experience:
At least 1-2 years of experience in substance abuse counseling or group facilitation preferred
Work Environment & Schedule:
Schedule may include evenings or weekends to accommodate client needs.
Ability to handle emotionally charged situations with professionalism and empathy.
Pay Rate: $25.00-$27.00 per hour

NewPath Child & Family Mental Health Group Facilitator will work within our NewPath Residential Program. The individual in this role will facilitate all aspects of experiential mental health residential groups. The groups are designed to build upon and further assist clients with issues, such as mental health struggles, emotional regulation development, and social skills development in which the client is currently addressing in therapy and case management. What You Will Be Doing

- Engage in weekly program and care team meetings in an effort to advocate and coordinate treatment.
- Collaborate with therapists, educational staff, medical staff, and other professionals involved in the treatment of youth.
What You Bring To The Table
- Bachelor's degree in a related field required; and three years' experience in experiential teaching, expressive therapies, or adventure therapy highly desired.
- Must have knowledge and experience using physical and recreational activity in a group and therapeutic setting.
- Be at least 20 years of age.
- Have a valid driver's license and proof of current auto insurance with no DUI/OVI violations and no more than 5 points on your MVR.
