The Opportunity
We are looking for a Hardware Test/Bringup Engineering Manager who will help us advance our testing environments, evaluate specifications and debug automotive electronic systems. You'll dive into complex environments, collaborate across disciplines and help ensure our systems meet global safety standards. This role is a manager level with four direct reports.

A Day in the Life:- Work as a technical contributor while providing oversight to lead, mentor, and manage a small team of engineers to accomplish complex project design goals
- Design, prototype, and document these solutions which can be standalone elements or parts of larger systems
- Create necessary packages for transfer to Production and Implementations teams including bill(s) of materials, assembly instructions, test plans, and user documentation
- Work with QA to ensure product developments meet requirements and are ready to transition to Production team
- Provide high-level technical assistance to Sales team(s) for existing and legacy product(s) as necessary
- Experience with digital and analog design techniques including best practices for volume production repeatability and reliability
- Electrical design experience using schematic capture tools
- Experience with design of multilayer and controlled impedance PCBs
- Design experience with mixed voltage systems and various serial protocols
- Experience with prototype debug tools such as oscilloscope and logic analyzer as well as techniques to identify and resolve issues
- Working experience with embedded firmware development and repository systems
- Experience working with and leading small teams of various skill sets (hardware/firmware/QA)
- Understanding how to influence project outputs and timelines by proper ordering of task priority, understanding how parallel activities can be identified, and risk mitigation.
- Experience designing products that work as part of larger systems
- Knowledge of network device operation and infrastructure
- Experience working with Industrial Designers to develop product enclosures
- Experience with low power design/battery-powered design/design to cost concepts
- Working knowledge of techniques to reduce EMI/ESD/Susceptibility issues.

Overview
This position will functionally manage a Mechanical team of around 10 people located in USA and India. The Manager, Hardware Engineering will work within the Dover Fueling Solutions Regional Engineering team (North America) delivering product to DFS business unit and will report directly to the Director of Hardware Engineering for North America. As a working manager, the successful candidate will both contribute to product design and lead the design team. This position will be based on our Austin, Texas campus.
Responsibilities- Oversee planning and execution of one of the Mechanical team developments executed and products maintained by the appropriate team members
- Design develop, and document (using 3D CAD software) new and existing dispenser components and modules
- Fabricate and assemble prototype components and modules
- Develop design verification test methods
- Manage one (or multiple) dispenser product line projects; liaise with electronics and software design departments, Manufacturing and Purchasing
- Participate in the integration of the hardware modules in the final platform and product
- Participate in field support and maintenance of the systems
- Provide full Technical Documentation for all developments
- Develop KPIs to demonstrate and improve team efficiency and product quality and time-to-market
- Coach, mentor, and oversee team's professional growth in terms of dispenser design; HW development processes (e.g. reviews, specs, designs, unit tests, engineering testing, etc.); documentation; and quality
- Identify innovation ideas and spot cost reduction potentials in Manufacturing
- Create detailed milestone and resource planning for all projects
- Maintain department planning related to overhead, issue resolution, legacy support, NPD
- Manage reporting demands that include weekly highlights report
- Participate in weekly department meetings to review progress on status (target dates versus actual); other strategic issues; required investments; general department/team member issues; unforeseen delays and/or problems
- Identify and implement processes, policies and procedures that optimize internal and external customer experience and operational effectiveness of the organization
- Develop and lead initiatives to ensure continuous improvement in operating processes across the team and Engineering organization including establishing best practices that will provide a competitive advantage through NPI, Sustaining Product Support, Lifecycle Data Management, etc.
- Drive a culture of root cause analysis and collaboration to drive appropriate corrective actions regardless of where the problems lie; hold team accountable to use hard data and metrics to support assumptions
- Develop effective and sustainable partnerships with all key stakeholders in support of quality performance metrics through benchmarking, assessments and best practices
- Recruit, develop, and retain a world-class team
- Ability to work effectively with employees at every level, blue-collar thru executive-level employees
- Engage on special projects as required
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering with a minimum 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education & experience and out of which minimum 3-5 years in people management
- Prior experience in leading and developing an Engineering development team
- Practical experience in the following: Fabricated and formed sheet metal parts
- Fluid handling components made from cast metal (sand cast, die cast aluminum and grey iron)
- Injection molded plastic and elastomeric parts
- Machined aluminum, steel and plastic parts
- Fluid handling systems
- Demonstrated effective leadership, results oriented, and strong work ethic
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Ability to influence others, regardless of reporting authority
- Excellent analysis and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of UL hazardous area zoning requirements for fuel dispensers
- Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD, PDM and ERP systems
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Experience working in experimental/machine shops
- Experience working on cross-functional design teams
- Experience in a global environment is a plus

Salary ranges for U.S. locations (USD): 140,800.00 - 211,200.00. This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and certain locations in California. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, disability leave, 401(k) with employer contributions, paid time off, holidays, employee stock purchase plan, and other programs as described by Medtronic.
Regular employees are those who are not temporary. Some benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in hardware development, including precision components and/or sheet metal. Cable harnessing experience a plus.
- 3+ years of experience in a leadership or managerial role within a mechanical development team, ideally within the hardware space.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency with CAD tools (Creo).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
