Non-Exempt. This role will work closely with the treatment, storage and disposal facilities to ensure that waste is characterized correctly and ensure that all hazardous material shipments brokered by our company comply with DOT and hazardous material regulations while meeting customer delivery expectations.


Duties

· Prepare and process hazardous material and non-hazardous material air and ground shipments in compliance with DOT regulations.

· Accurately complete shipping paperwork, labels, and documentation for domestic ground and air freight.

· Inspect and verify product packaging, labeling, and placarding for all shipments.

· Coordinate with internal departments and carriers to ensure timely and compliant deliveries.

· Assist with profiling customer waste streams to capture all physical, chemical, and radiological properties.

· Maintain shipping and characterization records and ensure data accuracy.

· Adhere to all company safety procedures and regulatory guidelines.

· Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

· Prior experience with DOT ground shipping and Hazmat compliance preferred but not required.

· Must possess an Associate or higher degree preferably in a technical or scientific field.

· Ability to become a certified DOT Hazmat shipper.

· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

· Ability to work independently and within a team.

· Basic computer skills and ability to learn shipping software.

· Basic math skills and ability to work with spreadsheets.


Working Conditions

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.

Hazardous Materials Program Manager positions plan, coordinate, and direct Citywide hazardous materials management and Household Hazardous Waste Programs or solid waste and landfill sites; direct and supervise personnel in the performance of professional-level hazardous materials management work such as conducting investigations and inspections of work sites involved in the management of hazardous materials and/or waste for conformance to state, federal, and local regulations; conduct training classes; oversee the household hazardous waste transfer facility and related programs; and perform other duties as assigned.

Positions in the Development Services Department may oversee the Local Enforcement Agency (LEA); direct and supervise staff to ensure compliance with the state of California solid/hazardous waste laws and regulations; identify and mitigate potential environmental risks; oversee inspection results and compliance attempts by staff; prepare reports, forms, memorandums, and correspondence; review and evaluate site investigation reports, health-based risk assessments, remediation plans, and closure/post closure maintenance plans; oversee site assessments and remediation of burn ash sites; develop and monitor grants; investigate complaints; conduct training; make public presentations; coordinate LEA activities with other agencies; and perform other duties as assigned.

NOTE:
  • Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).

EXPERIENCE: Four years of full-time professional-level experience managing a hazardous materials program, which MUST include one year at the lead or supervisory level.

  • A Master's Degree in Chemical, Environmental, or Sanitary Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Health, or Industrial Hygiene may be substituted for a MAXIMUM of six months of the required experience.
  • If you are using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify, you must submit written documentation signed by your appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work you performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
  • Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) with the State of California.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire.

**Nuclear and Hazardous Materials Tec 3 $64,700- $01,400**
You will work as a member of the Chief Operations Office Associate Laboratory Directorate of Weapons Production (COO), Process Maintenance and Decontamination Services Group (PMDS), Programmatic Maintenance and decontamination team for Weapons Production Facilities. The team is responsible for performing maintenance on programmatic equipment, glovebox support systems, and decontamination to support program deliverables. You will support Decontamination and Maintenance activities and report to a First Line Manager for preparing, reviewing and working against approved integrated work document (IWD) specific to task and location and approved detailed operating procedures. You will work with the organization responsible for corrective and preventive maintenance of programmatic equipment, (i.e., troubleshoot, repair and replace) as well as the decontamination, decommissioning and demolition of process equipment used at all Weapons Production Facilities.

Apply established work methods and procedures to perform maintenance with less direct supervision. Work with other teams within the group to scope and schedule work. **Work Schedule:**

**Shift Differential Pay:**
Nonexempt employees will receive shift differential pay when they are assigned by their manager to work a regular shift in which four or more hours are scheduled either before 8:00 a.m. or after 4:00 p.m.

- Night shift: normally 12 midnight to 8:00 a.m
