This position is a Farm Management Trainee position, incumbent will learn multiple aspects of the business and operation.

This Extension assignment will cover either the Central Region of Alabama (counties include St. Clair **.** Jefferson, Shelby, Bibb, Chilton, Elmore, Autauga, Lowndes or Montgomery) or the Northeast Region of Alabama (counties include Madison, Jackson, Marshall, DeKalb, Cullman, Blount, Etowah and Cherokee) **The Agent will be housed in one of the counties in their designated region.**
**Essential Functions**
**Responsibilities:**
The EA is expected to develop an expertise in farm management and economic decision making with an agronomic (row) crops emphasis. This will include developing competencies in budgeting, value added marketing, business planning, and record keeping. In relation to the broader context of farm and agribusiness management, competencies are expected to be developed around agricultural risk management strategies that focus on the following areas: production, financial, legal, marketing, and human risk. Application of economic principles should be relevant to agricultural production in Alabama.
The EA will be the first point of contact for farm and agribusiness educational programming in their assigned areas and have statewide programmatic opportunities in conjunction with the Agronomic Crops team. The EA will collaborate with state specialists and utilize all available/emerging technologies to provide clients with solutions-based educational programming through meetings, workshops, publications, web sites, and other outreach techniques. Program audiences include farmers, farm families, landowners, agricultural businesses, cooperatives, farm organizations, commodity groups, and mass media.
In addition, the EA will be part of a statewide Extension Priority Program Team and be expected to participate as a team member to plan, promote, and execute statewide team programs as well as participate in statewide team training opportunities. This includes participation in writing grants and in activities that support applied research/demonstrations beneficial to clientele. Participating in regional and state associations, and other groups, is important for the EA to develop a reputation as an educational leader with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. The EA will also assist the team leader and administrators in program evaluation and impact reporting.

Our client, a leading agricultural technology and services provider, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Agronomist to lead initiatives in sustainable crop management. This role is integral to our field operations, requiring regular on-site engagement with agricultural professionals and direct work within diverse farming environments. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing advanced agronomic strategies that enhance crop yields, improve soil health, and promote environmental stewardship across a variety of crop types.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive agronomic plans for diverse crops, focusing on sustainable practices, nutrient management, pest and disease control, and water conservation.
  • Conduct field trials and research to evaluate new agricultural technologies, seed varieties, and crop protection products.
  • Provide expert agronomic advice and technical support to farmers, growers, and agricultural consultants.
  • Analyze soil, plant tissue, and weather data to make informed recommendations for crop production.
  • Educate stakeholders on best practices for integrated pest management (IPM), precision agriculture, and organic farming techniques.
  • Monitor crop health and performance throughout the growing season, identifying potential issues and recommending timely interventions.
  • Collaborate with research and development teams to translate scientific findings into practical farm-level applications.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and training materials for internal teams and external partners.
  • Stay current with agricultural research, industry trends, and regulatory changes impacting crop production.
  • Mentor junior agronomists and contribute to team knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Science, or a related agricultural field. A Ph.D. is a plus.
  • Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in agronomy, crop management, or agricultural research.
  • In-depth knowledge of plant physiology, soil science, entomology, and plant pathology.
  • Proven experience with sustainable agriculture practices, including IPM, nutrient management, and conservation tillage.
  • Familiarity with precision agriculture technologies and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent field diagnostic skills and ability to interpret complex data.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented, field-intensive environment.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel frequently to farms and agricultural sites.
  • Certification as a Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) is highly desirable.
