AMENTUM is seeking an industrial safety specialist to support our team of multi-skilled technicians in a process maintenance and manufacturing environment in Waukesha, WI
This position will be expected to be an integral part of the day-to-day operations to provide EH&S Leadership and supporting all employees on site. The position will be expected to offer immediate solutions when the team identifies safety related concerns to safeguard our employees.
Under general supervision, the EH&S Specialist performs technical work in a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with EH&S standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements.
Must leverage knowledge and applications of the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of an environmental specialty. Assists in the development and implementation of Job Hazard Analysis, Safety Procedures, Critical Risk evaluations, and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems and procedures. Monitors and prevents hazards and diseases that could be found in the work area. Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace. Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazard. Conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs. Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice. May provide guidance for a team of EH&S specialists and/or support personnel.
Essential Functions:
- Evaluates, plans and administers training programs, as well as other employee safety procedures, and Job Hazard Analysis.
- Conducts comprehensive safety audits and inspections and recommends actions for the correction of hazardous situations for compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Investigates injuries, conditions and incidents that do, or could, involve actual or potential liability. Such findings and conclusions to be documented and logged for trend awareness and accountability.
- Maintains adequate records of pertinent data and compiles or initiates the compilation of the required reports on individual job occupational injury and illness experience.
- Plans and coordinates safety and health classes for technical and supervisory employees.
- Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace. Provide tools and competent recommendations to immediately address findings.
- Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazard.
- Conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs.
- Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice.
- Ability to collaborate with client/site EHS personnel to address potential hazards or unsafe conditions found.

Minimum Requirements
+ **Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Health or Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering or a related role, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience in a safety professional role.**
+ **In addition to education requirements, 5 years of experience in an occupational safety role in an industrial or manufacturing environment.**
+ **Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.**
+ **Experience using software to enter and interpret safety-related data.**

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Industrial Safety Instructor develops and teaches Industrial Safety courses within the Vocational Education and Workforce Development division of the Academic Affairs department. These courses will include, but are not limited to, 40-HR HAZWOPER, 8-HR HAZWOPER Refresher CPR/First Aid w/AED, and OSHA 30 General Industry.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares and maintains updated instructional materials, course outlines, and curriculum.
  • Maintains cooperative working relations with key partners to manage and enhance services to local, regional, statewide, and international partners.
  • Participates in the development of and contributes to the quality of College-level curriculum in the area of study.
  • Evaluates student performance and submits appropriate grades, documentation, and reports.
  • Completes reports and presentations, and attends meetings and special events, as required.
  • Participates in professional development, as appropriate.
  • Periodically travels throughout the North Slope Borough at all times of the year.
  • Actively participates in College and community service including serving on community and task forces, participating in College activities, curriculum planning, professional development, and assisting in the budgeting of assigned programs.
  • Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated teaching experience in a post-secondary environment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE (Required):

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING (Preferred):

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in industrial safety, environmental science, or related fields.
  • National certification (i.e. CET, CSP, CHCM, CHMM, etc.).
  • HMTRI trained.
  • Construction (29 CFR 1926) and General (29 CFR 1910) Industry safety-related experience.
  • OSHA 500 and 501 authorized instructor.
  • DOT, and/or RCRA and/or EPA experience.
  • Hazardous waste site and or spill site work experience.
  • Valid drivers license.
