EH&S TECHNICIAN II/SENIOR

Based onsite at Rocket Lab Headquarters and Engine Development Center in Long Beach California, the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Technician is responsible for the company's overall compliance with federal, state and local health, safety and environmental regulations. This includes the management of OSHA health and safety programs, policies, forms and training, and compliance with EPA hazardous waste management and permit reporting requirements.

(Please note: this position can be hired at the EH&S Technician II or Senior EH&S Technician level)

WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO:

• Handle Rocket Lab headquarters and the Engine Development Center environmental health and safety operations as primary responsibility
• Inspect work areas and document all responsible activities as required by Local, State and Federal law and internal company practices.
• Assist in the implementation and enforcement of the company's environmental, health and safety policies.
• Assist EHS team by responding to and assessing employee concerns.
• Support in identifying hazards for high-risk activities, assessing the risks, and completing risk assessment reports.
• Support in evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability and outcome of hazards.
• Assist with Incident Investigations.
• Assist in the evaluation of equipment, tasks, processes, workstations, office and manufacturing environment to identify EH&S or ergonomic issues.
• Complete necessary tasks to attain certifications necessary to complete job requirements:
  • FIT test, training & safety certifications, PPE certifications, etc.
• Responsible for hazardous material and waste spill response, containment and disposal.

YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS AS AN EH&S TECHNICIAN II:

• 5+ years of experience in an environmental, health and safety role in any of the following industries: aerospace, automotive, medical device, oil & gas, or a heavily regulated manufacturing facility.
• High school diploma or GED
• Experience handling and managing operations of hazardous materials and waste in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS AS A SENIOR EH&S TECHNICIAN:

• 8+ years of experience in an environmental, health and safety role in any of the following industries: aerospace, automotive, medical device, oil & gas, or a heavily regulated manufacturing facility.
• High school diploma or GED
• Experience handling and managing operations of hazardous materials and waste in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

• Associates degree or certification within applicable field
• Detail-oriented, follows projects to completion, documents and files OSHA records
• Experience with chemical lab packing
• Ability to research EHS laws and regulations
• Knowledge of chemicals, acids, bases, solvents and toxics and important properties

· Assist in development of Job Safety Analysis' (JSAs).
· Institute team-based care initiatives through engagement of front-line leadership and department employees.
· Develop critical inventories of RRI, lifting procedures, and department risk assessments.
· Facilitate cross functional ergonomic assessments and identification of workstation improvements.
· Assist team with driving EHS excellence as a core value and promotes an enthusiastic safety culture at all levels.

The Environmental Health and Safety Technician is part of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team and provides day to day EHS presence across the contract and ensures that all federal, state, local and DOD regulations are being adhered to. The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Coordinator implements and monitors industrial environmental, health, and safety programs. The EH&S Coordinator also ensures the workforce is trained and performs industrial operations in accordance with federal, state, and local regulatory laws and regulations, provides regulatory consultation to the production workforce, performs audits and inspections of work processes and industrial equipment and compliance assurance, reports non-compliance or hazardous conditions found and, recommends effective action. This individual also conducts investigations into unplanned events regarding emergencies including but not limited to injuries, hazardous materials, spills, or fire and smoke incidents, while creating and disseminating comprehensive reports of the investigation to management and contractual oversite.

Summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Technician reports to the Safety Manager and will regularly exercise independent judgment while performing regulatory compliance fundamental functions, including OSHA, NFPA and other health and safety compliance programs. The EHS Technician role encompasses a wide variety of duties related to EHS surveillance at both the Pacific Cast Technologies and Selmet facilities in Albany, OR and participation in preventive and corrective actions that protect our employees and the environment and ensure environmental compliance. Position Summary
Under general direction of the HSE Manager and Manufacturing Director this position serves as coordinator for occupational safety programs within one or more divisions and/or departments. Plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate departmental occupational safety programs.

Essential Responsibilities
•   Assist the HSE Manager / Supervisor with the implementation of environment, safety and health programs, as directed.
•   Schedule and conduct weekly safety meetings.
•   Conduct daily, weekly and monthly safety audits.
•   Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
•   Conduct safety orientation for new employees and contractors if necessary.
