CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment Process: Incumbents must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, work history and education verification, as well as a job-related physical exam and drug screening.

We are seeking a Medical Assistant to join a large healthcare provider's laboratory team in Highland, CA. This person will be on-site Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. The facility handles approximately 150 blood draws daily, primarily serving pediatric and geriatric patients. We are looking for someone with excellent customer service skills, a personable and friendly demeanor, and patience when interacting with these patients face-to-face. While there are other phlebotomists on-site, we need a Medical Assistant who can assist with both blood drawing and various administrative duties. Experience in both front and back desk medical assisting is preferred, as daily responsibilities may vary based on patient volume and staff availability.
In this role, your responsibilities will include drawing blood, providing instructions to patients, accessing data in the computer system for lab orders, processing orders and specimens, correcting lab codes in Quest, and handling both front and back desk tasks. Float position that allows team members to pick up work assignments at multiple Optum sites.
**Primary Responsibilities:**
+ Deliver high-quality patient care through face-to-face, telephone, and electronic contact for examination, treatment, monitoring, and preparation for diagnostic tests or procedures
+ Collect and document patient information, including vital signs, chief complaint, review of medications, allergies, health risk screen information, the status of extended care benefits, and other services
+ Assist physicians and nursing personnel with injections, EKGs, phlebotomy, and other patient care procedures as directed
+ Coordinate patient care as directed by physicians, company standards, and policies
+ Assist with tasks, phone calls, and messages; document all actions taken
+ Proper, concise, and complete EMR documentation and paper-based documentation for all assessments and procedures
+ Prepare and clean patient rooms and set up instruments and equipment according to protocol while maintaining infection control

**Required Qualifications:**
+ Completion of a Medical Assistant program
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or willing to obtain by date of hire
+ Medical Assistant experience
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Phlebotomy certification
+ Electronic medical records (EMR) experience
+ Bilingual English and Spanish
