Support staff on the unit includes Stroke Coordinator, Respiratory Therapy, physical and occupational and speech therapy, case management, nutritional services, social work, pharmacy, pastoral care, and community nursing service
The unit is managed by the Nurse Manager with a designated charge nurse each shift. The house nursing supervisor provides leadership during off hours and on weekends. Neurologists, Neurosurgery, and hospitalist support is available either in-house or by pager 24/7.
Flexible self-scheduling, with designated third weekend commitment and accommodating three holidays per year.
Performs a variety of direct patient care procedures to assist the unit manager, professional staff and physicians in providing patient care focused on the needs of the patient.
Meets the comfort and hygiene needs of the patient by providing care services such as bathing, oral hygiene procedures, hair care, bed pan/urinal use, skin care and garment, linen and bedding changes. Distributes meals and beverages, takes vital signs, and collects lab specimens.
Assists with completion of patient testing and treatment procedures, sets up and primes IV tubing, 12-lead ECG, simple tracheostomy and care, changes dressings, performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation, obtains wound cultures.
Assists physician and professional staff in equipment supply and set up.
Assists with ambulating patients with assistive devices such as crutches and with transfer/transport procedures.
Performs required documentation and communicates in a competent and effective manner to meet patient and/or family needs and regulatory requirements. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, employee and department information to ensure patient rights.
Utilizes time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes.

The Patient Care Technician:
- Performs various activities in the treatment and care of patients, including routine hygiene care, ingestion of food and fluids, elimination of body wastes, mobilization, and dressing/undressing.
