The Clinical Care Technician provides direct and indirect patient care to support a unit or facility as directed by a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Participates as a member of the patient care delivery team by collection of basic laboratory specimens and two hour troponins, collects legal alcohol specimens, performs EKG's and 2 hour EKG's with troponins, assists with lifting and transporting, performs vital signs, clean and bandage wounds, splinting to fractures and other duties as delegated by the nursing staff within scope of training.
  • Transport patients to testing.
  • Perform CPR on full arrests as members of the code team.
  • Follows all policies and procedures in the collection of laboratory samples and in the performance of EKG's, in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Assists nursing staff in addressing patient care needs, rounding frequently and ensuring that environment is conducive to care.
Qualifications

Cleveland Clinic's Integrated Hospital Care Institute is currently seeking a qualified **Acute Care Nurse Practitioner** or **Physician Assistant** to join the **Critical Care** Advanced Practice Team at Mercy Hospital. This role offers a high degree of autonomy while working within a supportive, team-based environment caring for diverse patient populations in a mixed MICU/SICU setting, including Level II trauma patients. Additional service line includes the CCU.
**Role & Responsibilities:**
+ Provide independent, high-level critical care to acutely ill patients.
+ Perform H&Ps from the ED, floor consultations, and daily rounding.
+ Manage procedures including central line placement, arterial lines, and intubations.
+ Write admission orders, coordinate care plans, and engage in patient/family discussions.
+ Collaborate with attending physicians and consulting teams.
+ Respond to hospital-wide emergencies, including rapid responses, sepsis alerts, stroke alerts, and code blues-providing assessment, resuscitation, and appropriate disposition.
+ Participate in 24/7 coverage with in-house attending support during daytime hours and eICU resources available overnight.
**Training & Support**
New APPs receive comprehensive onboarding, structured mentorship, and access to didactic resources to ensure success in providing high-quality patient care within the critical care team.

**Job Responsibilities:**
+ Conducts thorough medical histories, performs complete physical examinations (where indicated), initiates appropriate lab, radiology tests or other special tests required for evaluation of illness, and scrutinizes lab data on new and former clinic patients and hospital admissions to establish a record of the patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan.
+ Must be able to work with collaborating physician.
+ Performs and interprets, at least to the point of recognizing deviations from normal, common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiologic processes as privileged by CCF Credentialing Board
+ Autonomously takes initiative responding to and taking the lead in rapid response, codes and stroke alerts, admissions to the ICU, as well as performing specialized procedures , such as, blood draws, IV starts, intubation, arterial line placement, central venous catheter placement , ventilator management, in addition to other specific procedures as necessitated by the patient situation. Must be prepared to function independently in house as the sole provider in hospital.
+ Provides information and answers routine questions of patients and families regarding their disease, including preventive health maintenance topics such as diet, weight, smoking and topics related to medical specialty, with basic recommendations.
+ Educates patients regarding their disease, treatments, related drug and treatment side effects and hazards.
+ May participate in medical team rounds; collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members.
+ Refers patients to specialists as appropriate for consultation or for specialized health resources and treatment.
+ Ensures continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary care team or with other specialty areas as necessary.

This unit cares for patients who have peg tubes, foley catheters, central lines, and tracheostomies, are post-heart catheterization, require wound care, have drug and alcohol addictions, or have mental illnesses and are waiting for placement at a psychiatric facility. Minimal bedside procedures are done on this unit, but caregivers occasionally see fluid aspiration from joints and incision/drainage of small skin abscesses. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant on the team, you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing and warm environment for patients in this unit. This position offers the ability to pursue educational advancement, higher positions and skills development courses offered by Cleveland Clinic. **A caregiver in this position works days from 6:30AM - 7:00PM, including rotating weekends and holidays.**
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.
+ Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
+ Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean and orderly.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ High School Diploma or GED
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it during your new hire period)
