**I. Primary Function/General Purpose of Position**
The Clinical Care Leader is a Registered Professional Nurse with responsibility and accountability for the coordination of clinical activities for a given team of patients. Develops and sustains an environment that promotes excellence in clinical practice and customer satisfaction, while striving for optimal efficiency and productivity of all resources.
The Clinical Care Leader utilizes the nursing process, leadership skills and current evidence based clinical knowledge to assess the health needs of patients, collaborate with health
team members to coordinate patient care, anticipate outcomes of nursing interventions, and
set criteria for the quality of patient care. Provides patient and staff education, clinical supervision, and participates in unit based activities (quality assessment, shared governance, scheduling, quality review, staff development in- services, etc.). **II. Employment Qualifications**
+ Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
+ BSN required or proof of enrollment in BSN program with anticipated graduation date within 18 months of assignment.
+ Master's preferred.
+ National nursing certification required or must be completed within first year in the role.
+ Must obtain a Clinical Nurse II in the Professional Nurse Advancement Program within first year in the role and maintain this level while in the CCL role.
+ Must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia.
+ Must possess knowledge of hospital policies and nursing policies and procedures and techniques within assigned patient care area. Cumulative experience must be a minimum of two years of acute care.
+ Maintains current CPR certification.

**Job Summary and Qualifications**
**SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*:**
1. *Utilizing facility, regional and state protocols, provides and facilitates communications for CJW with Emergency Medical Services agencies, including, but not limited to ambulance transportation, rotor and fixed wing services
2. *Provides critical communication link to CJW medical and nursing staff regarding incoming patients to the facility from EMS agencies.
3. *Maintains working knowledge of all EMS communications equipment at CJW Medical Center.
4. *Plays key role in trouble-shooting opportunities for improvement in communications with EMS agencies.
5. *Reports communications or plant-op's impediments to EMS arrivals or traffic flow.
6. *Plays key role in the Hospital Incident Command System during both external and internal disaster situations and during regional "Code Red" or "Code Black" activations.
7. *Collaborates with other communications centers locally, regionally, and state-wide during disasters.
8. *Collaborates with the Emergency Preparedness Department.
9. *Participates in training drills related to emergency preparedness both internally and externally.
10. *Facilitates and participates in the Regional Hospital Communications Center (RHCC) when CJW Medical Center assumes command from VCU Healthsystem.
11. *Represents the facility at both internal and external committees and work groups related to EMS communications.
12. *Maintains working knowledge of all current protocols and pathways affecting patients arriving via EMS agencies, including, but not limited to STEMI protocols, Stroke protocols, Trauma Team Activation protocols, Trauma Bypass protocols, and Trauma Triage protocols.
13. *Promotes positive relationships and collaborations with EMS agencies and participates in EMS Outreach activities as appropriate.
14. *Acts as a team player, facilitating efficient operations of the Emergency Department and other departments as appropriate.
15. *Promotes ED throughput whenever possible and within scope of practice. This may include performing some clinical tasks within scope of practice and demonstrated competencies, however, EMS communications always take priority in overall operations.
16. *Actively participates in Performance Improvement activities for Trauma, EMS and the Emergency Departments.
17. *Completes all mandatory education requirements of CJW Medical Center and the Trauma and EMS Services department.
18. * Maintains clinical certification level of EMT or higher at all times.
19. *Acts in accordance with facility privacy policies and adheres to HIPPA regulations.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Minimum 1 year field experience in direct patient care in an accredited EMS agency, Emergency Department, Critical Care setting, or Emergency Dispatch experience.
Preferred: EMT-B or I, Current VA or National Registry EMT, Paramedic, or PCT
EDUCATION
Required: High School Diploma or GED equivalent, CPR-BLS
Preferred: Associate or Bachelor Degree in Emergency Management or Emergency Medical Services Management
