Responsibilities
The Patient Care Assistant assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to all patients and assists in maintenance of a safe environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit.
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Current Phlebotomy certification upon hire, preferred.

Current EKG certification upon hire, preferred.

Current BLS (AHA) upon hire and maintain current.

Possesses knowledge of Medical Terminology.

Minimum six months previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician’s office preferred.
Facility Specific Requirements (facility may require items listed below):
- Current Behavioral Violence Prevention (BVP) certificate within 6 months of hire and maintain current per facility requirement.

We are currently hiring full-time and casual, Certified Nursing Assistants/Patient Care Technicians to support our team. In these roles, you'll provide routine patient care and support services to ensure that the highest degree of quality patient care is provided at all times. Our Clinical Resource Team is a compilation of healthcare professionals who are trained to work on various inpatient units. If you enjoy a variety, joining the CRT will provide the opportunity to care for a diverse population of patients.
Joining the Clinical Resource Team will qualify you to receive a 10% float pool differential!
***Certified Nursing Assistants may be eligible for up to a** $5,000 sign-on bonus with a 2-year **commitment!**
**Responsibilities:**
+ Assume responsibility for assignments and views problems as challenges.
+ Provide direct resident/patient care as directed by the RN and LPN including all activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, dressing, transporting, toileting, and ambulating residents/patients.
+ Maintain an environment conducive to resident/patient safety and recovery including, but not limited to, completing safety checks, keeping the department and resident/patient rooms clean and organized, cleaning department specific equipment, changing bed linens, emptying linen hampers, keeping hallways clear of equipment and returning equipment to proper storage.
+ Responds to resident/patient needs and calls in a timely manner.
+ Acquire and distribute supplies and equipment to facilitate resident/patient care delivery including, but not limited to, ordering, charging/crediting supplies, setting up resident/patient care equipment within the scope of the nursing assistant position, and stocking resident/patient rooms and unit supply areas.
+ Deliver resident/patient nourishments and assist with feeding as needed; fills water pitchers.
+ Perform routine tests such as resident weights, vital signs, and Intake & Output.
+ Provide feedback to the RN/LPN regarding resident/patient care and reports changes in resident/patient status in a timely manner.
+ Assure equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department.
+ Contribute to the universal unit activities including, but not limited to, responding to call lights and telephones, passing meal trays and transporting residents.
+ Maintain current CPR certification.
+ May apply, monitor and remove resident/patient restraints as per physician or facility protocol.
+ Provide diversional activities to reduce or prevent use of restraints.
+ Document in the medical record according to established procedures.
+ Comply with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions and understands policies and procedures for blood borne pathogen exposure.
+ Strictly adhere to all policies and practices relative to resident/patient care and facility related information.
+ Responds within the scope of the nursing assistant role to emergent situations.
_*Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary within the PCT career ladder based on their individual experience and education._
Certified Nursing Assistant
+ Completion of a certified nursing program required.
Patient Care Technician
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Must also have one of the following:
+ 1 Year of general healthcare experience
+ 6 months of experience as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved with 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion
+ enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation
+ completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
+ Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class
+ Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
Patient Care Technician, Senior
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Must also have one of the following:
+ 2 years of general healthcare experience and meet requirements of Patient Care Technician title
+ 1 year of experience (defined above) and enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with completion of at least one clinical rotation
+ 1 year of experience (defined above) and completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
+ Annual completion of a professional contribution to be determined after hire
+ Nursing Student that has completed one clinical rotation preferred
**Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**
+ CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
+ Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
+ If entering position as part of CNA training program, employee has 120 days to obtain.
+ CNA Students entering Nurse Aide Training classes who have residency in PA must have a Photo ID with a PA address
