Located in Fairbanks, AK the Driver will operate pre-production vehicles (new models and prototypes), conduct safety inspections, perform specialized test procedures, and report findings and observations to engineering departments for research & development.

The Driver's primary responsibilities will be to:
- Safely operate medium & heavy vehicles with manual transmissions (class 8, class 6, etc.) in a wide range of open road real-world testing conditions to collect data and provide feedback
- Conduct pre-drive safety and diagnostic tests to calibrate conditions including visual inspection, fluid levels, air pressure, weather, etc.
- Accumulate mileage to collect performance metrics and other data such as vehicle noise and handling, center of gravity, grade ability, traction control, powertrain durability and others.
- Other duties as requested or available depending on Driver experience

- Superior driving skills with a focus on safety, demonstrated by a clean driving record and minimum of 3 years of driving experience operating Class 6 and Class 8 heavy vehicle manual transmissions
- Ability to travel up to 30-40%, as needed, to specific states for specialized tests or vehicle transportation as well as internationally (possession of a valid passport is highly desired)
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow strict protocols to ensure accurate testing results
- Passion for the automotive industry and the niche auto proving & testing business who would enjoy working alongside the largest automotive companies in the world
- Safety Sensitive position requiring all persons assigned to activity be drug free and pass drug screening prior to employment

Job Description
The Heavy Vehicle Mechanic operates, repairs, maintains, and function tests heavy power construction equipment such as compressors, pumps, hoists, shovels, trucks, tractors, graders, bulldozers, front-end loaders, scrapers, motor graders, skid steers, backhoe, dump trucks and various flightline support vehicles and associated equipment.
**Essential Responsibilities:**
+ Conducts Mobile Maintenance duties. Replace and repair hydraulic lines, pneumatic equipment, air conditioning systems, wheels/tires, wipers, and light bulbs.
+ Perform heavy equipment maintenance activities including installation, repair, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance.
+ Disassemble and reassemble engines and mechanical units to inspect and diagnose parts using computerized test equipment, calibration devices, gauges, etc.
+ Replace and rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drive units, suspensions, springs, bushings, and kingpins, seals, and bearings.
+ Perform operator care such washing, vacuuming, and cleaning.
+ Performs routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles such as checking oil, water, and tires.
+ Ensures proper care and maintenance of equipment; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
**Administrative Responsibilities:**
+ Collects vehicle and equipment data; conducts 100% inventory annually.
+ Engages with customers and mission partners on maintenance status weekly.
+ Coordinate parts and services with vendors daily.
+ Inputs data in maintenance system and perform work order processing in computerized maintenance management system daily (i.e. MAXIMO and DPAS).
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
**Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:**
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Two (2) to Five (5) years of experience in operating and maintaining heavy equipment.
+ Licensed or trained to operate applicable items of heavy equipment.
+ Must be experienced in the repair of major systems.
+ Prefer motor vehicle air conditioning certification and experience.
+ Specialized knowledge and skills in diesel and heavy automotive repair and maintenance.
+ Skilled in replacing major components and parts on construction equipment.
+ Practical understanding of theory of hydraulics (Pascal Theory), pulley, and gear ratio.
+ Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
+ Knowledge of diagnostics and ability to conduct technical research on the computer.
+ Prefer knowledge of US military heavy vehicles and equipment, Material Handling Equipment (MHE), OSHA, American National Standards Institute (ANSI), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), military regulations standards, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements.
+ Must be able to speak, read and write English.
**Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:**
Physical requirements include prolonged standing, moderate walking, repeated bending, and climbing, overhead work, working in cramped positions, lifting, pulling and pushing weights up to 100 pounds. Good vision (corrected or uncorrected) and good hearing (with or without a hearing aid) required. Will work inside and outside in various weather conditions, subject to rapid changes in temperature due to nature of work. Hazards include danger from gas fumes, falls, electric shock and burns, cuts and bruises. Must have normal color vision. When performing work, responsible for adhering to environmental, safety, and health standards related to the activity, including the wearing of all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Must cease work and notify lead, supervisor, or manager of all unsafe conditions.

Job duties:
- Must be certified or have equal experience to perform maintenance, i.e., towing and repair on the AFVs used at SUBASE Kings Bay.
- Perform all preventative automotive maintenance and repairs and shall have experience in wiring, electronics, automotive mechanical repairs, welding, and machine shop fundamentals.
- Maintenance Mechanics must hold a current certification or documentation of equivalent industry experience to perform maintenance on installed engines within each vehicle.
