DIALYSIS RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
- Shall provide hemodialysis to both inpatients and outpatients.
- The dialysis unit is an outpatient chronic dialysis facility providing hemodialysis and CRRT. The Registered Nurse will also provide inpatient dialysis to the ICU.
- Hemodialysis for critical care patients is done in the critical care units. All other patients are transported to the dialysis unit.
- Shall provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with end-stage renal disease who are being maintained by intermittent hemodialysis and/or peritoneal dialysis in either a chronic unit setting or a critical care/acute care unit setting.
- Either area requires the nurse to provide treatment utilizing the nursing process, according to the written procedures and policies of the hemodialysis unit.
- The dialysis nurse is required to perform hemodialysis vi fistula, graft, or venous catheter.
- Shall demonstrate the ability to operate and monitor specialized equipment including, but not limited to portable dialysis machines, CRRT machines, oxygen, hypothermia units, various types of suction apparatus, infusion equipment, PCA, epidural pumps, sequential compression devices, cardio-respiratory monitors, vital sign monitors, and assist with patients in the Intensive Care settings who have invasive hemodynamic catheters, monitors, and ventilators.

- Completed courses for nursing from an accredited program approved by either the Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
