Responsibilities
  • Ability to take the primary supervisory role in the design and development of Plans, Specifications and Estimates for transportation projects under the oversight of the Director of Transportation Engineering.
  • Supervising/mentoring team members in the development of transportation design projects.
  • Producing designs in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or providing technical design guidance to other team members.
  • Developing project contracts, schedules, and budgets.
  • Managing projects for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), City of Boston, and/or other Massachusetts municipal clients.
  • Presenting highway related design elements to clients and stakeholders.
  • Assisting with quality control of construction plans and design documents generated by other team members to ensure quality objectives are met.
Qualifications
  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • Massachusetts PE license
  • Thorough understanding of PROWAG and ADA accessibility standards
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience in developing quantity and cost estimates
  • Familiarity with developing specifications and construction bid documents
  • Able to interpret and apply technical information contained in procedures and manuals (including state-specific manuals) to accomplish the design process for assigned projects
  • Ability to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team to meet challenging design and schedule requirements

This position plans, manages, supervises, and controls all the activities necessary for the development and preliminary design of multiple small to large capital improvement projects of varying complexity by coordinating the efforts of in-house design staff and/or private architectural and/or engineering consultants, functional groups within the Department, and other outside agencies. The position supervises professional engineering staff, mentoring in project management, project design, and consultant contract management duties.

The DOT&PF Central Design and Engineering Services is looking to hire to help Keep Alaska Moving by delivering transportation projects from planning through advertisement to the contracting community. You will be responsible for approximately a dozen projects, depending on size, worth several million dollars. You will develop and manage the projects with in-house teams, consultants, coordinate with various support groups, agencies, and local government entities, manage scopes, schedules, and budgets, maintain progress reports for management, and be responsible for problem-solving.

AECOM is seeking a HIGHWAY ENGINEERING DESIGN TASK LEAD to be based in Eastern Pennsylvania. AECOM has offices in Mechanicsburg, Philadelphia and Conshohocken, PA. This is a HYBRID position and additional office locations may be considered.

In this role, you will provide technical leadership and design coordination to highway engineering designers and associate task leads working on medium to large scale transportation projects in the Greater Pennsylvania Area.

If you are experienced in developing the highway design technical approach, quantities and pricing, while providing technical guidance and oversight to associate highway task leads and designers working under your direction, then this will be a great fit. In this role, you will also coordinate with other project discipline design leads, the highway engineering technical lead or engineering manager, and the project manager to advance project scope and deliverables.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Technical guidance and verification of design criteria, horizontal and vertical alignments, superelevation, barrier/guiderail design, and spot elevation details
  • Technical guidance and verification of rigid and flexible pavement designs
  • Technical guidance and verification of signing and pavement marking plans and details
  • Technical guidance and verification of construction phasing plans and maintenance of traffic based on interdisciplinary coordination and constructability reviews
  • Technical guidance and verification of coordinated utility conflict resolutions based on interdisciplinary constructability reviews, client feedback, and utility needs
  • Technical guidance and verification of construction specifications, quantities, and cost estimates
  • Technical guidance and verification of 3D Model in OpenRoads
  • Technical guidance and verification of technical calculations and reports per client and/or internal AECOM standards
  • Adhere to and promote AECOM quality procedures
  • Verify completion of interdisciplinary technical reviews
  • Contribute to internal project-related staffing decisions to facilitate meeting client schedule, scope, and budget.
  • Contribute to the development of proposals and other marketing efforts to win new work.
  • Prepare presentations that explain technical findings, recommendations, and limitations

  • I-95 RECONSTRUCTION (Philadelphia, PA) – Urban interstate reconstruction including interchange ramp and local roadway re-alignments, traffic control, and utility coordination in final design to mitigate level of service and improve existing conditions
  • STATE RD RECONSTRUCTION (Bucks County, PA) – Suburban arterial reconstruction including right-of-way plan development, roadway geometry, pavement design, traffic control, and utility coordination in preliminary engineering to mitigate existing roadway flooding
  • SR1 RECONSTRUCTION (Chester County, PA) – Freeway reconstruction including profile adjustments, interchange reconstruction, interchange ramp realignments, multiple roundabout designs, trail designs, and side road alignment adjustments.
  • I-81 RECONSTRUCTION (Avoca, Moosic, and Scranton, PA) - Urban Interstate reconstruction including mainline widening, 2 interchanges being fully reconstructed including ramp realignments, intersection improvements, right-of- way coordination, and structure coordination for 15 bridges along mainline and ramps.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering plus six (6) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, with highway transportation projects located in the United States
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, or ability to obtain reciprocity/comity based on active licensure in another state
  • Design experience working on projects for PennDOT, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, SEPTA, and/or City of Philadelphia
  • Valid US Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices
  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OpenRoads Designer (ORD)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering plus ten (10) years of related experience with highway transportation projects located in the United States
  • Design experience working on projects for Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) and/or Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC).
  • Ability and willingness to work within a hybrid environment with hybrid teams
  • Ability and willingness to offer mentorship to various levels of staff
  • Active participation in local professional societies and/or organizations

Transportation Engineering Technician

Will Consider Junior Engineering Technician. Under the general supervision of a Transportation Surveyor-Party Chief or Senior Transportation Surveyor incumbent performs complex nonprofessional surveying field/office work.

Incumbent works as a field technician performing various surveying duties including digging, clearing of brush, setting of durable monuments, pipe driving, removal of asphalt and operating and maintaining various precise surveying instruments. In an office setting, uses various complex computer applications, computer aided drafting and engineering and research products.

The incumbent will be assigned work based on Departmental needs and could be assigned to either a Field Survey Crew working near traffic or heavy equipment, or in an office setting within District 4.

PARF# 04-6-2130 / JC- Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineering Technician / Junior Engineering Technician exam. Working Conditions

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

This position requires the incumbent to work both indoors and outdoors. While at their base of operation, incumbent may work in a climate controlled office under artificial lighting. However, due to periodic problems with the heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate. Offices may be fixed buildings or trailers. Work generally consists of five eight‑hour days and may require travel, overtime, weekend and night work. Vacations/Leave usage may be restricted during peak times. Night work requires ability to work under and with artificial lighting.

The incumbent will be assigned work based on Divisional and/or Departmental needs and could be assigned to any office within District 4, which includes all nine Bay Area Counties. This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in‑person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquarters location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquarters location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquarters location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

A Transportation Engineering Technician must have the ability to review and understand various types of basic Surveying data in the Micro station/CAD or computer environment.

Ability to read and write English at a level required for successful job performance, as well as read, review and understand construction plans, right of way maps, and monumentation maps.

Incumbents must have background in mathematics including fundamental geometry and trigonometry concepts used in survey calculations.

The following are knowledge abilities and analytical requirements necessary for this position: Understand and practice current safety procedures as described in the Code of Safe Surveying Practices and the Caltrans Illness and Injury Prevention Program.

Assist with the research, verifying and adjusting of survey data, if directed. May include making and interpreting less difficult survey calculations.

Apply and utilize basic principles of trigonometry as used in simple plane and geodetic surveying and within the California Coordinate System.

What Your Day Will Look Like:

As a transportation engineering project manager, you’ll lead delivery of roadway improvement projects from conceptual design through preliminary, intermediate, and final design phases to construction. You'll manage all aspects of schematic or PS&E plan preparation for roadway projects. The transportation engineering project manager reports to the area manager.

Salary Range: $180,000 to $20,000 a year

What You'll Do:

  • Prepare scope, schedule, and budgets for projects and task orders.
  • Oversee the design for roadway, highway, and traffic engineering projects.
  • Assist in business development and proposal efforts.
  • Achieve in project pursuits to win work, coordinating with client account management leads.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum fifteen years of transportation engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Proficiency in AutoCad and Civil3D software.
  • This hybrid job operates between an office environment and a field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones and copy machines. May require occasional exposure to work environments that may include inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazard, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water, depending on project requirements.
  • While performing the duties of this job, physical demands of the employee include frequent sitting, moving, standing, talking, hearing, and occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. This job may occasionally require operating a company vehicle, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 lbs.
