Job Description
Serco is hiring Horticulturists to support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency Public Assistance recovery initiatives in Zone 2 across the Midwest. The Horticulturists will consist of professional and non-professional personnel to provide support to state, tribal, territorial local governments, and some private non-profits. Serco strives to provide support quickly and efficiently to FEMA's mission by helping those effected by man-made and natural disasters. These positions are deployment based, and you must be willing and able to deploy anywhere in Zone 2.
**This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain/maintain/transfer a FEMA EOD Badge/Public Trust Clearance.**
**This position is contingent upon customer requirements and/or their approval.**
In this role, you will:
+ Conduct site inspections and ensure that any proposed project actions comply with environmental, floodplain, and historic preservation laws, regulations, and executive orders
+ This may include conducting environmental assessments and environmental impact statements
+ Review and analyze professional architectural/engineering reports and designs or as-built plans
+ Thoroughly document analyses in writing
+ Develop scopes of work, including related code and standard requirements
+ Validate applicant-provided scopes of work, including related code and standard requirements
+ Develop and review cost estimates
+ Advise FEMA staff on the technical validity of claims presented under FEMA's arbitration process
+ Should arbitration hearings occur, testify as an expert witness on FEMA's behalf
**Qualifications**
**To be successful in this role you will have:**
+ 2 years minimum of prior Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) experience
+ A bachelor's degree (in a related field) with 5 years of experience in a related field and professional registration (Certified Professional Horticulturist - CPH); OR a bachelor's degree (in a related field) with 10 years of experience in a related field
+ 1-2 years of experience in horticulture related site inspections of large commercial construction infrastructures
+ 1-2 years of experience in horticulture in any of the following eligible types of work:
+ Restoration of roads, bridges, water control facilities, buildings, equipment, utilities, debris removal, schools, churches, parks and recreation centers
+ The ability to obtain and maintain FEMA Public Trust
+ A United States citizenship
+ The ability to maintain FEMA specific trainings
+ Microsoft Office skills
+ The ability to deploy to any location in zone 2 with a 24-48-hour notice after task order award
+ _Zone 2 includes Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming_
+ The ability to go on 6-12-month deployments at a minimum
+ Experience and comfortability using a smart phone
+ The ability to work independently, in a team environment and under stressful conditions with tight deadlines

The Department of Horticulture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Professor - Ornamental Horticulturist. This position will be a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position with 60% research and 40% teaching appointment. The projected start date is August 2025.
**Responsibilities:** The selected individual will be expected to conduct applied research that will enhance ornamental crop production and usage in Alabama and the region. The selected individual will be expected to develop a strong research program that will support the current and future needs of the Alabama Nursery and Ornamental Greenhouse industries. The research program should address relevant topics related to outdoor nursery crop production, greenhouse floriculture and potted plant production, and new and emerging systems, including highly controlled environments. Collaboration with faculty members and extension personnel at Auburn and beyond is also expected. The selected individual will be expected to publish regularly in peer-reviewed journals appropriate to the discipline of their research and to compete successfully for external funding to support their research program. The selected individual will be expected to mentor undergraduates in short-term research projects and to train future scientists by directly advising M.S. and Ph.D. students. **Minimum qualifications** include a Ph.D. in Horticulture, or a closely related plant science discipline at the time employment begins. The successful individual should have experience in research on ornamental crops at the M.S. and/or Ph.D. level. The successful candidate should have experience with conventional outdoor and protected cultivation methods for production of ornamental crops, should display evidence of scholarly productivity including published peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, presentations at scientific societies, and a record of developing successful competitive grant proposals. The selected individual should have experience teaching (either as TA or instructor of record) undergraduate and/or graduate courses and must possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with diverse audiences. The selected candidate must meet eligibility requirements for employment in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and to continue working legally for the term of employment.

The Turf Horticulturist-Eagle Bend Golf Course position will be assigned to Park District 1, this position is responsible for performing a variety of turf maintenance tasks at the City golf course, parks, municipal properties and right of way areas. Activities including limited mowing, seeding, sodding, establishment of fertilizing and pest treatment programs for highly maintained turf areas, and irrigation management and repair. Maintenance activities include: planting, staking, watering and pruning trees, shrubs, perennials, native plants and flowers; spraying or injecting pesticides for plant/turf health care, and other general park maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS: Equivalent to an Associates or Bachelor's degree with major course work in horticulture or related field. One or more years of experience in horticulture field, prefer advanced knowledge of horticulture principles, practices and landscape methods. Must acquire a commercial driver's license (CDL) to operate assigned equipment and a Kansas pesticide license within first 3 months of hire. Must be physically capable to operate walk-behind equipment (i.e. power mowers, roto-tillers, snow blowers, leaf vacuums).
