Job Description:
The Individuals/Foundations Group provides accounting, tax compliance and planning, legal, trust administration, business management, financial management, treasury, insurance, and technology services to the enterprises of two wealthy families, including business entities, trusts, individuals and foundations. The Manager position reports to the Group Leader and works well with all of the other professional service providers.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Management of quarterly Financial Statements and custom reports for all Individual, S Corporation and Foundation enterprises.
- Review and manage annual Fair Market Value Balance Sheet project.
- Manage annual tax return process for Individuals, Partnerships, S-Corporations and Foundations.
- Review tax projections and quarterly estimates.
- Identify and research tax issues, consult with internal tax experts.
- Review and reconcile journal entries and general ledger for multiple individuals, LLC's, partnerships, S-Corporations and foundations.
- Review insurance policies, claims and schedules for individuals, personal entities and foundations.
- Mentor and develop staff accountants within Individual/Foundation Group.
- Identify future needs of the family office accounting function and recommend appropriate plans/actions.
- Lead and manage special projects, as needed.
Requirements
Job Requirements:
- A minimum of 7-10 years' of public accounting or similar family office experience with emphasis on individuals, partnerships, trusts and not-for-profit entities.
- Relevant undergraduate degree required.
- CPA preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and review the preparation of federal and state tax returns for high-net-worth individuals (1040), partnerships (1065), and related filings.
- Deliver tax planning strategies for clients involving wealth transfer, charitable giving, business structuring, and succession planning.
- Interpret complex partnership agreements and manage capital account and basis calculations.
- Provide tax advisory on multi-entity structures and transactions.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients and coordinate with their attorneys, wealth advisors, and other professionals.
- Mentor and supervise a team of tax professionals to support development and technical growth.
Qualifications:
- CPA license required; MST or JD is a plus.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in public accounting with a focus on individual and partnership taxation.
- Proven ability to manage client relationships and deliver consultative advice.
- Strong working knowledge of Subchapter K and high-net-worth individual tax matters.
- Proficient in relevant tax software (e.g., GoSystem, CCH Axcess) and Microsoft Excel.

What Youll Do
Tax Prep & Review

Advisory & Strategy
- Consult on payroll tax (FICA, unemployment, withholding, etc.).
- Guide clients on SALT risks and registration processes.
- Conduct tax research and draft client-ready memos.
- Advise on tax-saving strategies and planning opportunities.
IRS & State Response
- Lead responses to IRS and state notices, audits, and inquiries.
- Coordinate resolutions and serve as the go-to for client tax issues.
Tax Provisions & Reporting
- Oversee tax provisions (ASC 740) for corporate clients.
- Align tax reporting with current laws and coordinate with finance teams.
- Support clean and accurate financial statement reporting.

As a Manager in our Tax service line, you will be responsible for the following:
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships with client personnel and prospective clients
- Provide tax compliance and advisory services to High Net Worth Individuals including their closely related businesses, trusts, and exempt organizations
- Lead teams of senior and staff accountants
- Oversee planning and scheduling of engagements
- Research complex tax issues
- Ensure quality of work product
- Monitor and manage engagement work-flow and billing
- Coach/mentor individual team members
- Provide formal and informal feedback
- Communicate to partners and work on strategic planning associated with the engagement
To be successful, these are the skills, qualities and experience you will need:
- Undergraduate degree in accounting; Master's in Tax a plus
- CPA License
- Minimum 5 years of tax experience required with a strong technical background in high net worth individual taxation
- Strong organizational and management skills
- Excellent written, oral communication and documentation skills
- Ability to articulate complex tax matters in "business" language
- Ability to integrate and team with others
- Ability to work effectively in a demanding, fast-paced and complex environment
- Strong team player with emphasis on the continued growth and development of team members
- Excellent analytical skills and judgement

We anticipate that this Director will have a diverse client portfolio of corporate, institutional foundation, and non-profit clients, with a significant portion of work with family and individual clients. This will likely include family foundations, individual donors and couples that are early or at a pivot point in their social impact and philanthropic journey and are seeking guidance on the best approaches to advance their philanthropic commitments in a way that aligns with their values and preferences.
We seek a candidate with core competence in strategic analytics and experience in professional services and consulting, and exposure to working with ultra-high net-worth families and individualsthrough direct experience working in a family office, private wealth management or family foundation and/or through organizational or strategic consulting. In this specific role, you will need to thrive in being a trusted advisor to colleagues and clients. You are someone who understands that long-term, systemic change requires respect for what an individual or family philanthropist is up against, and a deep understanding of the complex logistics of impact, e.g., when and how to move the human, financial, and even intellectual resources needed to accomplish a goal.
