Borinquen Health Care Centers, Inc. is based in Miami Dade County and is seeking to hire an Infectious Disease Specialist (MD) to join our team. We provide a comprehensive range of health and social services to our culturally diverse community. Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, the Infectious Disease Specialist is responsible to diagnose illnesses and prescribe and administer treatment for people suffering from injury or disease, providing primary care. Physician is to examine patients, obtain medical histories as well as order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests.

Position Duties

  • Examines patients, obtain medical histories, and order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Counsels patients on diet, hygiene, and preventive health care.
  • Supervises the primary care service clinic as delegated by the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Makes referrals to specialists for further testing, diagnosis or treatment.
  • Participates in the training and in service programs as the Medical Director indicates.
  • Obtains and maintains active hospital practice.
  • Will participate in a 24 hour coverage program including after-hours phone calls and hospital coverage, evenly distributed among all physicians.
  • Meets or exceeds the minimum guideline of 4,200 medical encounters per year as mandated by HHS.
  • Participates in committees of the medical staff and regular clinical audits as indicated for quality assurance and peer review.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Relates to the community and other local professionals as a representative of our health centers.
  • Performs and reports the quality Improvement audits to the Medical Director.
  • Maintains contact with applicable agencies/organizations for guidance in the solution of compliance problems.
  • Create and modify documents for activities, and prepares reports as required.
  • Read, interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures.
  • Weigh the relative costs and benefits of a potential action.
  • Develop and/or implement new policies/procedures/standards and/or rules/regulations
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms, policies and procedures, etc.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all services rendered in patient chart.
  • Maintain organized, clean, efficient and confidential work area.
  • Maintain records, prepare reports, and conduct correspondence related to the work.
  • Relates to the community and other local professionals as a representative of our health centers.
  • Support staff in assigned project based work.
  • Performs other reasonable and proper duties as assigned by Executive Director.

Candidate Requirements

  • Possession of a Medical Degree (M.D. or D.O.)
  • Licensed in the State of Florida.

  • Experience in primary care, public health, or community health preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

INFECTIOUS DISEASE SPECIALIST

Department: Health Clinical Services & Case Management FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Classification/Level: B5 Date Last Reviewed: 08/2022

Under the direction of the Clinical Services and Case Management Director, the Infectious Disease Specialist provides clinical and administrative support to nursing and medical staff, performs epidemiologic surveillance, and assists with completing contact investigations for reportable communicable diseases. This position will not necessarily be a clinical position and is engaged in fieldwork as assigned. This position is Covered as defined by The Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Administers public health testing, conducts phlebotomy and immunizations, as well as engages in specimen collection, preparation and shipment of blood, stool, sputum, urine, oral swab, and other bodily exudate per the Health Commissioners standing orders. Testing conducted includes but is not limited to, Tuberculosis (TB) skin testing, Rapid HIV testing, fecal collection for parasites, STDs, childhood lead poisoning, and nutritional screenings as directed.
  • Conducts case investigations and contact tracing for patients who are diagnosed with reportable communicable diseases.
  • Interviews and counsels individuals regarding risk, movement restrictions and gives guidance on preventing the spread of disease as directed.
  • Collects epidemiological information on patients as directed, inquiries about activities, and contacts, and records all information into prescribed electronic databases for reporting and recordkeeping.
  • Responsible for Electronic Medical Record (EMR) use which includes scanning and indexing health records, data entry into CHIRP immunization registry, as well as the use of Excel spreadsheets and internal databases.
  • Collaborates with various Divisions and Department staff on case management, reporting, and conducts home visits when necessary to find patients. Delivers medications to patients as needed at home, work, school or elsewhere as directed.
  • Provides immunizations and other related services per the Health Commissioners standing orders.
  • Educates clients regarding communicable disease risk reduction.
  • Responsible for practicing infection control measures.
  • Cross-trained in other Divisions to assist when directed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned including overtime as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required, Associates Degree or Certification Program of comparable length in Medical Assisting is preferred
  • At least one-year Medical Assisting experience preferred
  • Strong medical assisting skills including phlebotomy, immunizations, vital signs/body measurements, specimen collection/preparation and Medical Terminology knowledge
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, Electronic Medical Records and other job-related computer software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification upon employment as required for all public health staff
  • Ability to complete CPR and TB Skin Testing Certification upon hire
  • Ability to complete N95 Fit Testing upon hire
  • Valid Drivers License to operate a County owned vehicle

DIFFICULTY OF WORK:

The Infectious Disease Specialist has the understanding of the Department of Healths rules and procedures concerning Communicable Disease reports and investigations involving relatively standardized tasks when acquiring appropriate medical records and contacting affected individuals.

RESPONSIBILITY:

The Infectious Disease Specialist performs a variety of relatively standardized tasks when interviewing cases, treating patients, and providing guidance and education. Errors in work are easily detected. Work requires some judgment when educating clients regarding communicable disease risk reduction. Completed work is reviewed for compliance with procedural requirements.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

The Infectious Disease Specialist maintains frequent contact with other County employees, Community Partners and clients of the Health Department Clinic concerning Communicable Diseases.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Infectious Disease Specialist works in the field and in an office setting with the ability to move around freely requiring frequent sitting with the ability to frequently lift up to 40 pounds, with some bending, pushing and/or pulling loads, reaching over head, kneeling and frequent exposure to temperature extremes with some exposure to dangerous equipment and noise.

LICENSING:

National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification upon employment as required for all public health staff

Ability to complete CPR and TB Skin Testing Certification upon hire

Mineola, Long Island, NY - NYU Langone Health, NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases is seeking a candidate for a full time faculty position to join its existing Department. The NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island is a 591-bed Hospital with 5,100 deliveries a year, a level 3 NICU, as well as a pediatric inpatient and pediatric ICU.





This position offers an outstanding opportunity for academic and professional growth. The Department has a strong culture of collegiality, strives to provide the highest quality of care to children, and is actively engaged in medical education and research.



Salary range: $195,000 - $ 225, 000



The salary range listed is for full-time employment and does not include incentive compensation or benefits. Actual salary may not fall within the listed salary range; consideration will be made for training, experience, hospital/community needs, and other factors.




Responsibilities: We are seeking a dedicated candidate with strong clinical acumen, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to academic excellence. Clinical responsibilities will include hospital consultations and providing care at the outpatient ID office. Engagement in medical education of students and pediatric residents is highly desirable. Interest in Quality Improvement initiatives to prevent hospital-acquired infections is preferred.



Opportunities: The ID Division has an established Family Travel program. It offers HIV care and adoption services. The ID Division is integral to inpatient & outpatient antimicrobial stewardship, and IPC programs.It has several ongoing pediatric clinical trials in collaboration with the Vaccine Center at NYU Langone Health. Additionally, the ID Division is closely affiliated with Hassenfeld Children's Hospital and engages in clinical and research collaboration.



NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island is affiliated with the NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine, an accelerated 3-year medical school aimed at training outstanding primary care physicians and leaders in areas of population health. The successful candidate will have an academic title at the NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine.

Requirements:


* Board-certified in Pediatrics and Board Eligible/Certified in Pediatric Infectious Diseases.


* Eligible for licensure in the State of New York.


* Physicians completing their fellowship or early in their post-training career are encouraged to apply.
