The Regulatory Operations Group (ROG) has responsibility for achieving safer and healthier workplaces within its jurisdiction. As an effective national regulator, it does this by promoting continuous improvements in work health and safety practices and monitoring compliance with the law.
Using a risk-based approach, the Group plans and implements an integrated program of continuous improvement and compliance activities to target issues or entities across the jurisdiction that pose the most significant risk to health and safety of workers. Services are delivered across the country through employees working in regional offices in QLD, NSW, VIC, TAS, SA, NT, WA, and ACT.
In order to manage the WHS risks associated with Major Infrastructure Projects regulated by Comcare, a Major Infrastructure Projects team has been established. The Major Infrastructure Projects Team will provide enhanced oversight and prevention-led interaction across major infrastructure and other complex construction projects. This involves application of a risk-based framework that ensures appropriate engagement is undertaken throughout key stages of the major project life cycle, with particular focus on high-consequence hazards.
Overview of the RoleAs an Assistant Director in the Major Infrastructure Projects Team, you will oversee a range of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulatory activities in accordance with relevant legislation, policy and procedures under minimal direction and supervision.
The work includes WHS related prevention programs, campaigns, health and safety audits, stakeholder engagement, presentations, inspections, and investigations across major construction projects in the Commonwealth jurisdiction.
The role delivers and assists to drive the provision of timely, high-quality services in a nationally consistent, regional service delivery environment. The role requires working as a team, mentoring less experienced inspectors, and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders including employers, workers, complainants, Health and Safety Representatives, employer associations, unions and federal and state government agencies.
Qualifications and Experience- Mandatory: Experience within a work health and safety, regulatory, law enforcement, and/or construction environment.
- Desirable: Certificate IV in WHS, WHS Lead Auditor, Certificate IV in Government (Investigation), or similar Construction qualifications.
- Character clearance (police records check).
- Health clearance.
- Six months probationary period for new engagements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance.
- Special Conditions:
- Achieve and maintain appointment as an Inspector under the WHS Act.
- Hold and maintain a motor vehicle driver licence for at least a motor car.
- Some intra and interstate travel is required, including overnight absences.
- Undertake job specific training as provided by Comcare including Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection) within 18 months of engagement.
