POSITION OVERVIEW

The Instructional Coach (IC) will provide instructional support and coaching to teachers as they work to ensure that each student is able to reach his or her academic potential. The IC's primary role is to work with teachers to support best practices in using data, provide analysis of school-wide trends in instruction, and make recommendations about potential next steps to address areas of need.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As an advisor to teachers and the leadership team, the IC is responsible for four main areas:
    • a) observing instructional delivery and providing feedback to enhance and support the development of each teacher's content area,
    • b) supporting teachers in the design of units and lessons for the development of their year-long curriculum,
    • c) analyzing data in order to modify curriculum and forms of assessment to meet students' needs, and
    • d) working with the academic staff (grade-level chairs, assistant principals, principals) in the school to support sharing of best practices.
  • Works with the Teaching & Learning team on the implementation of school-wide assessments; works collaboratively with campus-based leaders to make instructional decisions based on student performance.
  • Cultivates a standards-based, data and results-oriented culture.
  • Observes teachers and provides specific strategies for improved instructional delivery
  • Works with teachers and school leadership teams to create and improve aligned curriculum resources.
  • Collaborates with teachers in determining appropriate resources and support for teachers.
  • Supports teachers by providing feedback on lessons and assessments that align with school, and college-readiness standards, and serves as an expert in national trends/best practices in curriculum development and instructional strategy for historically underachieving students.
  • As a leader on the academic team, makes recommendations on best practices for supporting curriculum alignment across all grade levels within the specified content area for all grade levels.
  • Serves as a teacher coach by providing expert advice on improving and enhancing individual lessons and units based on ongoing analysis. This will include, but is not limited to:
    • Reviewing lesson plans, unit plans, and assessments
    • Understanding scope and sequence models
    • Observing classroom instruction and offering comprehensive analysis and feedback
    • Providing instructional strategy best practice training, as needed
    • Supporting the development of curriculum, using the backward design model and advising scope and sequence based on essential content knowledge that addresses local, state, and national standards.
  • Attends/Leads coaching meetings and professional development training, and attends NU Leader Training
  • Other duties as assigned, including covering ancillary duties or subbing for classroom instruction

  • Regularly prepare for and participate in meetings with the Talent Acquisition Manager
  • Identify and suggest local recruitment events that align with the goals of the Blueprint program, actively participating in these events to enhance the program's visibility and foster partnerships (career fairs, community events, information sessions, etc.)

Compensation and Benefits

Blueprint provides a competitive salary for this position. Salary Range: $65,000 - $5,000. Salary placement within range will be based upon professional academic experience as it relates to the required knowledge, skills, and experience of the position.

HCPA is a Title I Charter School that serves students through a school-wide plan for instruction that is focused on the needs of at-risk students.   • Support, train, coach, provide feedback and guidance to teachers in one-on-one or in small group environment with evidence-based curriculum or strategies targeted for the specialized instructional needs of students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Conduct demonstration lessons and/or co-teach lessons to help teachers improve classroom skills and practices.
  • Build and maintain relationships with teachers based on mutual respect, positivity, and a growth mindset.
  • Provide teachers with resources and materials to better execute specialized instruction and curriculum to support with accurate record keeping and progress tracking of each student with disabilities within special education programming to meet their annual goal(s)/objective(s)

  • Provide feedback and guidance to teachers.

Planning, Development, and Collaboration

  • Work with administration, other coaches, and special education teachers to develop and adjust lesson plans, pacing, and strategies to target student needs.
  • Support administration to help adopt specialized curriculum and other resources that will enhance teaching and learning, school culture and climate.
  • Review and monitor multiple sources of data in order to identify areas of strengths and needs in instruction and student learning.
  • Work with teams of teachers to monitor students’ academic progress and to help students using research-based strategies.
  • Coordinate curriculum, resource, and material distribution and use school-wide.
  • Plans and implements professional development opportunities for all staff related special education program needs.

School-Wide Professional Development and Initiative Facilitation

A coach works to develop professional activities and meetings in order to support teacher learning and student growth.

Summer Work


If the instructional coach is not a 12-month staff member, additional summer days will be required. Twenty (20) additional contract days will be required, which are not included in the calculation of the regular contract. Compensation will be provided for these days of work. If additional days are needed, it will be arranged and coordinated through the supervisor, CAO and instructional coach.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred 5 years of teaching experience and/or 3 years of Teacher Leadership Service in K-12 setting. Other related experience may be considered.
  • For coaches who will be working with literacy, possession of K-12 Minnesota Reading license preferred. Additionally, there is a strong preference for candidates trained in LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) or those who have in experience with structured literacy and systematic, explicit instruction based in the science of reading in the areas of phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, language comprehension.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As academics are essential drivers in our schools, the focus on Minnesota State Standards and the development of aligned regional curriculum, instruction, and assessments will be primary functions of the Instructional Coach/Academic Interventionist. The position is responsible for supporting student achievement with special attention to Tier II and III instruction, and individual or small group instruction to students who are struggling academically. This Instructional Coach/Academic Interventionist is responsible for monitoring, reporting, communicating student progress and performance, and collaborating with general education staff. In addition, the position will assist School Leadership by supporting the school’s communities of practice and professional learning to ensure a standard of excellence and impact.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Academic Vision Setting, Strategic Planning, Scaling Implementation

    • Provides input for program development 

    • Supports the implementation of assessment tools and data management systems

    • Attends the appropriate training to improve knowledge and skills 

    • Provides staff development opportunities 

    • Uses data to provide instruction to students and to bring their skills to grade level 

    • Collaborates with teachers, administration, and families to help identify best practices for individual and small groups of students 

    • Collaborates with teachers and other instructional staff to support teachers in implementing best classroom instructional practices. 

    • Uses identified research-based interventions focused specifically on individual student needs

  • Coaching Cycle Management, Development, and Support

    • Lead the instructional coaching model for the school

    • Participates in meetings with teachers, administration, and families to discuss student placement and progress

    • Provides high-quality coaching to academic staff individually and in small groups

  • Strength of Teaching and Learning

    • Ensure that curricula are aligned to state and college readiness standards, are vertically aligned, and are made accessible to teachers, allowing for efficient and effective pacing, sequencing, and lesson planning

    • Oversee student learning data acquisition and analysis, ensuring schools have access and training to effectively utilize the data to increase and enrich student learning

    • Review assessment tools on a regular and ongoing basis and analyze performance for effectiveness in improving student achievement

    • Collaborate with other members of the school and regional leadership team to ensure high-quality implementation of the school’s educational design, including school culture, standards, assessments, and instructional guidelines

    • Oversee teacher development, including working collaboratively with the School Leader to provide support surrounding the instructional staff evaluation process

  • Other

    • Required to assist and report a minimum of 20 hours per school year to work events held in the evenings and/or weekends. These events include student recruitment canvassing, home visits, community events, etc

Qualifications

  • Coordinate and oversee the academic program (K5) across HSA Davenport and HSA Des Moines in alignment with Concept Schools standards.
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent, principals, department heads, and CSAD Directors to ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment.
  • Interpret and implement Concepts Academic Excellence Framework with fidelity.
  • Assist in school and district long-term instructional planning.
  • Develop, update, and communicate curriculum maps and assessment tools that reflect state and Concept standards.

    Job Summary

    The Iowa Region Director of Teaching and Learning / K-5 Instructional Coach plays a pivotal dual role in advancing academic achievement and instructional quality at Concept Schools Iowa campusesHSA Davenport and HSA Des Moines. This position combines strategic oversight of academic programs (DTL responsibilities) with hands-on instructional coaching focused on K-5 classrooms. The individual will lead implementation of the Concept Schools Academic Excellence Framework, support teacher development, coordinate curriculum, analyze data, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements

    • Masters Degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field.
    • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience; elementary (K-5) experience preferred.
    • Valid Professional Educator License (PEL); administrative licensure strongly preferred.

    Must have :

    • Proven track record of using academic and behavioral data to differentiate instruction and support student learning.
    • Demonstrated leadership in instructional coaching and curriculum development.
    • Strong knowledge of the Danielson Framework, MTSS, SEL, and standards-aligned instruction.
    • Excellent facilitation and interpersonal skills; ability to lead and coach adult learners.
    • Experience working across multiple school sites and collaborating with diverse school teams.
    • Ability to travel regularly between HSA Davenport and HSA Des Moines
