Job Description:

Located at bp's Whiting Refinery in Whiting, Indiana, the Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of instrumentation engineering and maintenance work within the refinery. This is accomplished through the coordination of several resources including maintenance supervisors, engineers, specialists, craftsmen, contractor personnel and required materials in support of daily maintenance activities and refinery driven improvements.

The Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for developing short, medium and long range plans for process instrumentation equipment and systems that support the HSSE, availability and financial goals of the refinery. This is accomplished through development and execution of preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, reactive maintenance support, and equipment & system upgrades.

Key Accountabilities
  • Undertakes responsibility for management of technical integrity.
  • Directs critical activities requiring instrument and control knowledge and expertise.
  • Provides daily technical support to instrument technicians and supervisors.
  • Provides technical support on instrumentation application to process engineering, process control, operations, and process safety functional groups
  • Assists in planning and execution of turnaround instrument and control activities.
  • Provides technical recommendations in determining priority and scope of equipment repairs.
  • Participates/Leads root-cause-analysis failure investigations for instrument and control related incidents.
  • Analyzes equipment monitoring data and develops appropriate response to reliability issues.
  • Generates and maintains instrumentation key performance indicators
  • Reviews engineering projects and improvements to ensure compliance with refinery standards, national electric codes and other applicable industry standards.
  • Participates in Layer of Protection Analysis and Hazard and Operability Study evaluations and drives implementation of resulting actions in the instrumentation area.
  • Completes engineering design and documentation for small refinery improvement and modification projects.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining plant instrumentation and control engineering and safety standards.
  • Develops and manages reliability projects for refinery instrument and control systems.
  • Prepares engineering datasheets & drawing results and material/equipment order specifications.
  • Reviews supplier data and witnesses shop tests, and writes material requisitions.
  • Directs the efforts of design engineering and construction contractors.
  • Maintains the facility instrument specification sheets and jointly maintains the P&ID’s with process engineering.
Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 3 years of refining (or similar industry) experience
  • Minimum 3 years working in an end-user/owner role in the refining (or similar) industry
  • Computer proficiency in standard desktop software.
  • Knowledge of industry codes, guidelines and regulatory standards to include NEC, ISA, NFPA, and API.
  • Experience with distributed control systems, instrumentation and controls and basic analyzers
  • Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems and knowledgeable in cause-and-effect diagrams
  • Experience with instrument and control equipment design, specification, installation, repair & maintenance
  • Experience with various types of control valves
  • Technical knowledge of instrument and control system engineering calculations, construction methods, and materials.
  • Experience with PLC and distributed control systems.
Preferred
  • Experience with Layer of Protection Analysis methodology
  • Experience with valve diagnostics software
  • Emerson Asset Management System software experience
  • Smart Plant Instrumentation experience

How much do we pay (Base)? ($100,000 - $186,000) *Note that the pay range listed for this position is a genuinely expected and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for US Benefits – Core. **What You'll Be Doing**
**Job Scope:** Generally be responsible for performing all aspects for complete designs of small and large electrical and instrumentation engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under general supervision.
**Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:**
+ Familiarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards.
+ Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.

+ Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems. It is your responsibility to furnish sufficient sketches and details necessary for completion of engineering drawings.
+ Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure the smooth flow of vital information necessary for the scheduled completion of the project.
+ Advising the senior engineer concerning design or scope changes, which have been identified.
+ Assisting other engineers in developing and assembling scopes, drawings and specifications into a "package", enabling electrical/instrumentation purchase inquiries to be issued for procurement of materials or subcontract pricing.
+ Reviewing and checking vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for electrical/instrumentation input.
+ Developing construction specifications.
+ Reviewing fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
+ Performing fieldwork necessary to gather field data, check tie-ins and provide construction support.
+ Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel in the department.
+ Knowledge of the discipline specific methods, practices and techniques required to engineer, design and construct process and manufacturing projects.
+ Applying advanced engineering techniques and analysis to complex designs.
+ Produce installation details, motor control center single lines, electric room layouts, motor control elementaries, connection diagrams, cable schedules, control panel layouts and grounding, lighting, power and instrumentation plans under general supervision.
+ Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand.
+ Developing small work sharing packages for interoffice execution support.

The Controls & Instrumentation Engineer plays a key role in supporting the Engineering Lead and Product Engineering Manager in the delivery of Hyperscale Data Center Modules. This role is accountable for the electrical scope and control systems throughout all phases of the project lifecycle, including design, construction, manufacturing, testing, installation, and commissioning.
The engineer ensures that all electrical and instrumentation systems meet customer requirements and comply with industrial standards. Additionally, they provide critical support during the manufacturing stage and assist stakeholders in resolving site installation and commissioning challenges.
The Engineer will contribute to the achievement of organizational goals and initiatives as defined by the management team. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Chemours is seeking a **Manufacturing Technology Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer** to join our growing **Thermal & Specialized Solutions** business team. This position will be available at the Corpus Christi Plant located in **Ingleside, TX** and report directly to the **Manufacturing Technology Manager** . The Chemours Corpus Christi site is part of the Thermal & Specialized Solutions Business and focuses on the production of several different refrigerant gases. The site is a multi-unit manufacturing site with several existing well-established product lines as well as a recently built Low GWP production line aligning with growing market demand. This role will serve as a Plant Support Engineer for one or more areas of the Chemours Assets at this facility. The individual will provide overall E&I Engineering guidance and support for the Operations, Maintenance, and Technology Teams for their area(s). This role will entail involvement in day-to-day troubleshooting in the plant, as well as support for improvement programs in the areas of Safety (PSM), UPTIME, reliability, cost, new capital and cost projects installations, etc. The diversity of equipment on the site provides for interaction across a wide range of E&I related equipment. The site has a large and experienced pool of technical engineers across various disciplines to learn from and actively work with. Personal growth and development are actively supported through both internal and external training. The operating units are designated as highly hazardous processes (OSHA PSM Covered Processes). **The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:** + To provide engineering and troubleshooting assistance to the site's unit processes, including all synthesis, refining, storage, and shipping operations to maintain and improve the safety, operability, quality, and cost. + Provides support for both cost and capital projects to improve the safety, quality, environment, and/or cost of the production unit. This includes scoping out, justifying, and coordinating installation of new/modified facilities + Provides technical expertise to support specifying and/or maintaining various systems including: + PLC systems, interlock systems, and DCS + Low and medium voltage electrical distribution systems including motor control centers, switchgear, relays, sizing power cables, etc. + Transmitters, flowmeters, pressure and level measuring devices, control valves, motors, variable speed drives, etc. + Leads and participates in Safety, Reliability and Quality Investigations to identify and implement actions to drive continuous improvement. + Maintain personal level of technical expertise in key technologies via training, seminars, and professional organizations + Provide shift/weekend coverage for start-ups, tests, maintenance Turnarounds or other non-routine needs. Travel requirements are <10%. **The following is required for this role:** + Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university. + 4+ years of experience in related industrial /manufacturing work experience or Military Equivalent Experience (also includes co-op or intern experience). + Passion for working in and continuing to grow and develop in the Instrument/Electrical Engineering profession. + High degree of personal initiative and flexibility to move projects forward safely and in a timely manner. + Ability to diagnose and solve technical problems - making data-based decisions. + Ability to prioritize and manage short duration deadlines, emergency situations, and multiple priorities. + Ability to work both independently and in a team environment + Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong customer focus and ability to conceptualize customer needs based on customer input.
