Our client, a well-established, international insurance company based in Los Angeles, is seeking a highly experienced Controller to join their finance team. This role will report directly to the Senior Director of Finance and will be responsible for overseeing the financial and accounting functions of their MGA business. The Controller will play a key role in ensuring the financial stability of the company and its partner insurance carriers through accurate and timely reporting, while also leading the implementation of a new accounting system. In addition to financial oversight, this individual will contribute to strategic corporate initiatives and ensure compliance with reinsurance reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review all GAAP and SAP financial reports, including annual and quarterly statements, audited financials, and regulatory filings, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
  • Develop and manage a highly skilled accounting team, providing leadership and support.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely recording of all company transactions and ensure consistent reconciliation of accounts.
  • Collaborate with vendors, producers, and reinsurers to ensure timely settlement of payables and receivables.
  • Analyze key financial indicators such as premiums, claims, expenses, cash flow, and investments.
  • Manage financial reporting for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close, including the preparation of journal entries and filings for management and stakeholders.
  • Supervise payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and treasury functions while ensuring compliance with relevant tax regulations.
  • Manage accruals, bank reconciliations, and contracts with insurance carriers, customers, and vendors.
  • Monitor and maintain company cash balances, perform monthly cash forecasts, and direct treasury management activities, working closely with banks and investment managers.
  • Act as the subject matter expert and business analyst for the implementation of the Guidewire insurance system and a new corporate finance/accounting system.
  • Work closely with the finance team to enhance planning and reporting functionalities through improved communication and collaboration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is highly preferred, with experience in the property and casualty insurance industry.
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience within the insurance industry.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP is essential; familiarity with IFRS is an added advantage.
  • Advanced proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills with a strong aptitude for problem-solving.
  • Proven success in developing and managing high-performing teams and accounting processes.

**Position Summary:**
The Controller is an integral member of the executive management team. Responsible for overseeing the financial operations and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The role involves a combination of managerial, strategic, and technical responsibilities. **Financial Planning and Analysis:**
+ Develop and manage the company's financial models, forecasts, and budgets.
+ Provide financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to support decision-making.
+ Ensure proper financial controls, systems, and decision tools are in place and used focusing on strategic procurement plans and cost reduction initiatives.

+ Analyze backlog for valuation and aging accuracy and ensure that its cost is correctly estimated.
+ Coordinate physical inventory through standard operating procedures.
+ Prepare the inventory valuation and reconciliation - book to perpetual for both the month end and the annual physical inventory.
+ Lead the cycle counting program and ensure that the program is understood and properly executed through audits with a goal of 95% or higher inventory accuracy measured by part numbers counted.
+ Monitor and analyze financial performance against key business metrics.
**Financial Reporting:**
+ Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
+ Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS) and regulatory requirements.
+ Responsible for all cost accounting activities which includes purchase order price variances, labor variances, work-in-process, inventory tracking, and labor collection/shop floor control systems.
+ Prepare and transmit letters of credit documents to Corporate Treasury.
+ Present financial reports to the executive team.
**Internal Controls and Compliance:**
+ Establish and maintain internal control policies and procedures to safeguard company assets.
+ Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and tax requirements.
+ Coordinate and liaise with external auditors during the annual audit process.
**Cash Management:**
+ Monitor cash flows and manage working capital efficiently.
+ Oversee treasury functions, including banking relationships, cash disbursements, and cash receipts.
+ Ensure proper estimation of warranty exposure and reserve requirements.
+ Confirm proper safekeeping and supervision of the petty cash account.
**Team Management:**
+ Lead and manage the accounting and finance team, providing mentorship and development opportunities.
+ Motivates and develops talent within the organization through coaching, counseling, engaging and evaluating associate performance, utilizing the Company's personnel development processes.
+ Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement within the team.
**Risk Management** :
+ Identify and assess financial risks and implement appropriate risk management strategies.
+ Develop and maintain insurance policies to mitigate potential financial exposures.
**ERP and Financial Systems:**
+ Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial data within the company's ERP or accounting software.
**Essential Qualifications / Experience:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (Master's degree or CPA preferred).
+ 7+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience. Minimum of 2 years managing finance team.
+ Experience in all aspects of financial management including accounting, budgeting, planning, internal controls and analysis is desired.
+ Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems.
+ Cost accounting and bill of material/routings skills developed in manufacturing environments.

Thriving, technology firm is looking to hire a Financial Controller with public accounting experience. The Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accuracy in accounting, adherence to regulatory standards, and efficient financial reporting. You will also be responsible for the financial close process, providing operations with financial support, managing the general ledger systems, directing financial planning, preparing financial reports/statements, providing data analysis, and preparing financial forecasts. The ideal Financial Controller will keep abreast of financial trends, monitor budgets, manage special projects, and oversee a small team of accountants. This Controller must have excellent financial and organizational skills and the ability to develop and implement new revenue-generating accounting systems.
How you will make an impact
· Oversee internal control system
· Review and manage year end documents
· Perform profit & loss analysis
· Coordinate financial audit
· Monitor banking and credit card transactions
· Implement applicable accounting policies and procedures
· Assist with sales tax filings and compliance
· Treasury & Cash Management
· Provide timely and complete financial statements
· Assist with preparing annual budget
Requirements
The ideal Financial Controller will have a Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance.
Other requirements for the Financial Controller role include and are not limited to:
· 5+ years progressive accounting experience
· Public Accounting expertise preferred
· Hands on experience with AP, AR, Payroll, etc.
· QuickBooks experience
· CPA highly preferred
· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
