What will you do?
INSURANCE PRICING STUDIES: Designs and initiates analysis, compiles data, and computes statistics for insurance rating studies with manager oversight of only the most complicated tasks.
RATING ANALYSIS: Initiates analyses, calculates indications, and recommends changes in rate levels and rating structures based on statistical analyses, company experience, market conditions, legal climate, and underwriting practices to management and underwriting.
RATE MANUALS: Designs company rate manual pages according to decisions of management and underwriting.
REGULATORY FILING APPROVALS: Designs and compiles exhibits, explanations, justifications, and statistical analysis for the submission of company rate filings, state filing forms, and manual pages to the Insurance Departments.
LEGISLATIVE REVIEW: Researches, interprets, summarizes, and communicates state law requirements affecting coverages. Examines more complicated issues and recommends responses to manager and/or regulatory personnel for review.
RATE INSTRUCTION: Issues written instructions on rate and product changes to agents and home office personnel, and answers inquiries concerning the company rate structures for company personnel.
STATISTICAL STUDIES: Performs statistical studies of increasing complexity on the appropriate cost components for use in pricing studies such as loss development factors, trend factors, increased limit factors, expense loads, etc.
PRICING SYSTEMS: Designs and implements processes for maintenance of the company's computerized core pricing system used to produce standard actuarial reports and information required for pricing and management result evaluation purposes.
TECHNOLOGY LIAISON: Participates and organizes the development, changes, and test of software technology relating assigned product lines.

Overview of the Position
This position is an entry-level role within Personal Insurance, and part of The Hartford's Actuarial Leadership Development Program. The role supports the PI Pricing organization, analyzing and assessing actuarial pricing performance at the state level for The Hartford's $3 billion portfolio of Auto and Home products, as well as delivering solutions and recommendations to Pricing and Product Management leadership.
The ideal candidate will have statistical, analytical, and communication skills, with an interest in improving existing processes, addressing new challenges, and developing a deeper knowledge of ratemaking fundamentals.
Responsibilities
+ Develop and present key state performance metrics such as actuarial rate indications, trends, loss development patterns, and catastrophe loads to support rate filings, performance monitoring, profitability analyses, or other ad hoc analyses. Communicate these findings to internal and external stakeholders for review and approval of proposed changes.
+ Design and enhance analytical tools by applying advanced actuarial methods and technical expertise.
+ Establish and maintain effective working relationships with countrywide and state product management, technology, operations, data science, actuarial, compliance, and legal teams.
+ Contribute to countrywide projects, class plan enhancements, or the maintenance of complex product features.

Experience & Skills
+ Bachelor's Degree required.
+ Actuarial exam path to become a credentialed actuary with at least 1 passed exam required.
+ Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively resolve complex issues.
+ Strong Excel skills required. Knowledge of SQL, VBA, R, Python, SAS or similar code languages a plus.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

The Hartford is looking for an AVP of Product Management to lead the Personal Insurance Pricing Team. This impactful role will oversee the Pricing Analytics and Pricing Delivery organizations, managing a direct team of five leaders with approximately 40 total staff. In this position, you will be accountable for managing the pricing accuracy and adequacy of The Hartford's Personal Auto, Home and Umbrella products across all states, comprising $3.8B in written premium.
In addition to managing state pricing, this position will act as the Business Owner for key investments into new tools and advanced AI capabilities that improve pricing accuracy and drive efficiency in the rate implementation process. Strong partnerships with supporting areas such as IT, Data and Analytics, State Product, Auto/Home Line teams and Actuarial will be key to driving results.
