About the Role
We're seeking a skilled Senior IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) Engineer with expertise in real-time data streaming, telemetry systems, and MQTT-based communication protocols. You'll lead the design and implementation of scalable telemetry pipelines and edge-to-cloud integrations, playing a key role in securing and optimizing industrial data flow.

What You'll Do

• Design and maintain real-time data pipelines and telemetry systems for industrial IoT devices.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in MQTT architecture, including QoS, retained messages, persistent sessions, and LWT.
• Build and secure MQTT communications, including TLS/SSL, certificates, authentication, and authorization.
• Create efficient topic hierarchies and optimize MQTT publish/subscribe models to meet diverse customer needs.
• Diagnose issues across the full data pipeline-from edge device connectivity to broker performance.
• Configure and troubleshoot MQTT brokers (e.g., Mosquitto, HiveMQ, EMQX), including clustering and performance tuning.
• Implement and optimize data acquisition strategies, including polling, event-driven, and subscription-based methods.
• Train junior engineers and document best practices for telemetry and xIoT systems.
• Leverage industrial protocols and devices including PLCs, Modbus, and OPC UA.
• Store and analyze data using time-series databases such as InfluxDB.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to audit stale data and remediate flow issues.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of progressive experience in IT systems administration, software development, or telemetry engineering.
• Proven experience with MQTT brokers, including security, clustering, and configuration.
• Familiarity with industrial edge devices and protocols.
• Strong scripting skills in Python; proficiency in Golang preferred.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and lead initiatives independently.

• Certification in MQTT or OPC UA architecture.
• Experience in data center or industrial automation environments.
• Background in telemetry design, edge computing, and real-time streaming analytics.

• Should have minimum of 8 - 10 years of experience in MES and Manufacturing domain
• Experience in at least one Delmia Apriso MES/MOM implementation as Business Analyst using any of the Delmia Apriso version 2016 to 2023
• Experience in configuring solution using Apriso Desktop Client using any of the Apriso version starting 2016 till 2023
• Must have experience in discrete, complex and process-based manufacturing process
• Must have experience in converting business requirements into User Stories and/or Functional Requirement Specification
• Must have written Test Scenarios and Test Scripts to validate user requirements and build Traceability Matrix
• Must have experience in executing System Integration testing and supporting User Acceptance Testing
• Must have experience using SOAP UI or POSTMAN to verify the integration test case independently
• Experience in Machine Integrator configurations and troubleshooting issues for shop-floor device integration
• Must have been part of one or more end to end MES implementations using any of the standard MES/MOM solution framework
• Well versed with SDLC methodologies

Overview

GovCIO is seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Senior Internet of Things (IoT) Engineer to join our team in Doral, FL.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Lead and participate in the full lifecycle of IoT projects, from conceptualization and design to deployment and maintenance

• Contribute to the development of IoT strategies and roadmaps, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technology trends

• Lead the design and development of IoT solutions, including device connectivity, data acquisition, data processing, and cloud integration

• Develop and maintain IoT architectures and frameworks, and select and integrate appropriate IoT hardware and software components

• Design and implement data pipelines for IoT data ingestion, processing, and storage

• Ensure the security and privacy of IoT data and manage and maintain IoT platforms and cloud services

• Configure and optimize IoT devices and gateways, and monitor and analyze IoT data to identify trends and anomalies

• Develop and implement automation scripts for IoT device management and develop and implement prototypes and proof-of-concept projects to evaluate new IoT technologies and solutions

• Conduct feasibility studies and technical assessments and provide technical recommendations and guidance

• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Hardware Engineers, Software Developers, Data Scientists, and business stakeholders

• Communicate technical concepts and solutions clearly and concisely

• Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in the IoT domain

• Provide direction and mentorship to junior staff

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

High School and 10+ years experience or commensurate

• 9 years of relevant Internet of Things (IoT) Engineer III experience.

• Five years of position-specific relevant experience.

• Strong understanding of IoT architectures, protocols, and technologies (e.g., MQTT, CoAP, LoRaWAN, Bluetooth).

• Experience with IoT platforms and cloud services (e.g., AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub, Google Cloud IoT Core).

• Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C++) and scripting languages.

• Experience with data processing and analytics tools. Knowledge of network security and data privacy principles.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Certified Internet of Things Practitioner (CIoTP), CompTIA Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Security+, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), AWS Certified IoT Specialty, and Microsoft Certified Azure IoT Developer-Specialty.

• The Internet of Things (IoT) Engineer III is a highly skilled and experienced Engineer with a deep understanding of IoT technologies, platforms, and protocols

• Clearance Required: Secret

Preferred Skills and Experience

• 5 years of experience in IoT engineering or a related field. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C/C++, Java, or JavaScript. Experience with edge computing and machine learning. Experience with industrial IoT applications. Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations. Certified IoT Security Practitioner (CIoTSP), IoT Architect Certification, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP), and certifications related to specific IoT applications (e.g., healthcare, manufacturing).

• Experience at a DoD Combatant Command (e.g., SOUTHCOM, NORTHCOM, CENTCOM, CYBERCOM, INDOPACOM, EUCOM, AFRICOM, STRATCOM, TRANSCOM, SOCOM, SPACECOM) or a component is desired.

Posted Pay Range
