What You'll Do
  • Lead and manage the SOC team, including security analysts and incident responders, ensuring 24/7 monitoring and rapid response to security incidents.

What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity operations, with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership role

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine , as an Information Security Manager – Security Operations Center  in our Information Security department. This position will be primarily a work from home opportunity with the requirement to come onsite once a week to our Darien office. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.  

This position will oversee and enhance security operations by managing the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and Security, Orchestration, and Automation Response (SOAR) system, managing threat hunting efforts, managing the relationship with an outsourced security services provider, and helping to build and manage an internal security operations center. This role will be responsible for ensuring our security monitoring, detection, and response capabilities are robust, efficient, and continuously evolving to meet emerging threats. 

Essential Job Functions    

  • Lead the administration, tuning, and optimization of the Security Information Event Monitoring and Security, Orchestration, and Automation Response tool to ensure effective threat detection and response. 
  • Monitor the performance of the vendor providing Security Operations Center services and ensure proper integration of security data sources and data integrity.  
  • Assist in building an internally based Security Operations Center. 
  • Manage and support staff on response to incidents and threat-hunting activities to detect advanced persistent threats and hidden adversaries. 
  • Work with security teams to investigate security incidents, identify root causes, and recommend the implementation of mitigations. 
  • Develop and implement SIEM and SOAR use cases, correlation rules, and log management strategies. 
  • Serve as an escalation point, team mentor, and advisor to leadership on threat-based activities, response to incidents and vendor performance. 
  • Scrutinize, enhance and improve current processes and their associated procedures and playbooks. 
  • Manage between 3-10 people.  
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications    

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university 
  • 5+ years of experience in security operations, threat detection, and/or incident response 
  • Minimum of at least 2 years of work experience in an Information Security Operations Center or equivalent experience 
  • Prior experience managing a security team and/or mentoring security analysts 
  • Experience working with managed security service providers (MSSPs) or third-party security vendors 
  • Security certifications or ability to obtain within 2 years such as CISSP, GIAC (GCIH, GCIA, GCFA), CEH, or equivalent 
  • Deep understanding of the Google Chronicle or similar SIEM and SOAR platform - including rule creation, log ingestion, tuning, and alert triage 
  • Hands-on experience with EDR, XDR, SOAR platforms, vulnerability scanners, and endpoint protection 
  • Proficiency in scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation and custom alerting/playbook development 
  • Familiarity with security monitoring in cloud environments (preferably Microsoft Azure), including log sources and native tools 
  • Knowledge of threat hunting methodologies, anomaly detection, and familiarity with threat intel feeds 
  • Skilled in managing and coordinating response to security incidents, including containment, eradication, and recovery 
  • Ability to analyze logs from firewalls, endpoints, IDS/IPS, and cloud environments to identify threats 
  • Strong knowledge of threat intelligence, adversary tactics, and cybersecurity frameworks (MITRE ATT&CK, NIST, CIS, etc.) 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Master’s degree 
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and other health related regulations  
  • Academic medical center and/or health care consulting experience

The IT Security Director (System Security Officer) will serve as the Security Leader responsible for maintaining the operational security posture of information systems and programs. **Position Overview**
The IT Security Director (System Security Officer) will serve as the Security Leader responsible for maintaining the operational security posture of information systems and programs. This role acts as the principal advisor to the Authorizing Official and Information System Owner on all matters involving workplace services and end-user computing security.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ - Lead the design and implementation of complex IT security solutions including Threat Management, Vulnerability Management, and Identity and Access Management.
+ - Evaluate security control compliance with federal requirements and client monitoring strategies.
+ - Develop and manage security standards for physical and virtual desktop environments.
+ - Identify and manage risks associated with information systems.
+ - Coordinate with the client's Cybersecurity Unit to maintain compliance and Authorization to Operate (ATO).
+ - Ensure secure operation, maintenance, and disposal of assigned assets and systems.
+ - Conduct annual assessments to ensure policy and standards compliance.
+ - Address security requirements throughout the system lifecycle.
+ - Establish and review audit trails and retain audit logs.
+ - Generate and interpret documentation for CSAM compliance.
+ - Provide cybersecurity guidance aligned with industry best practices.
+ - Analyze vulnerabilities and present findings to system owners and leadership.
+ - Communicate effectively to document and report on security efforts and gaps.
+ - Support integration, testing, operations, and maintenance of system security.
+ - Develop and maintain internal Standard Operating Procedures.
+ - Align IT strategy with business processes and establish performance measures.
+ - Contribute to enterprise-level planning processes and systems.
+ - Administer hardware and software inventory and provide system operation support.
**Required Qualifications**
+ - Master's degree in Information Technology or equivalent formal training and experience.
+ - Minimum 10 years of overall experience, including at least 7 years in Information SPAA, cybersecurity, system administration, or engineering.
+ - At least 7 years as ISSO, security analyst, or security engineer with experience in NIST RMF, audit log reviews, system monitoring, SPAA processes, FISMA requirements, vulnerability and compliance scanning, continuous monitoring, security testing and evaluation, and security policies.
+ - Minimum 7 years of experience in vertical disciplines such as law enforcement, anti-terrorism, biological science, banking, transportation, or similar fields.
Where required by law, NTT DATA provides a reasonable range of compensation for specific roles. The starting pay range for this remote role is $100,788 to $33,281. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation for the position across all US locations. Actual compensation will depend on a number of factors, including the candidate's actual work location, relevant experience, technical skills, and other qualifications. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation based on individual and/or company performance.

  • Serve as the Program Security Officer (PSO) and subject matter expert for special security and special access program support in SCIF/SAPF environments.
  • Monitor access and compliance with physical and administrative security requirements.
  • Security Coordination:
  • Coordinate with the OUSD(I&S) Special Access Program Central Office, Special Security Office, Joint Staff, and Military Services security offices for guidance and resolution of security issues.
  • Manage personnel clearance verifications, visit requests, and provide security briefings.
  • Access Management:
  • Initiate and coordinate Program Access Requests (PARS) and facilitate Alternate Compensatory Control Measure (ACCM) accesses.
  • Update and maintain classified access management systems of record.
  • Facility Coordination:
  • Coordinate facility, equipment, communications, and IT needs specific to SCIF/SAPF requirements.
  • Assist in developing and executing policies for safeguarding SAP, SCI, and collateral data.
  • Incident Management:
  • Identify and mitigate security incidents, developing response measures for government leadership.
  • Identify and report vulnerabilities, threats, and risks to operational activities.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
  • Review, monitor, and report the status of action items, activities, and products using CATMS and JSAP systems.
  • Facilitate the preparation for and assistance during required security inspections.

Education And Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a US Citizen with an active TS/SCI Clearance.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management, preferably within a defense or intelligence environment.
  • Experience in managing security operations and special access programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-stakes environment.
  • Proficiency in managing classified information and understanding of security protocols.

Chicago, IL 3 days/week onsite in the loop (2 days work from home)

Summary:
This is a newly created position due to expansion of our IT Security team, that will report directly to the CISO, where you will have a couple direct reports to start, with a growing team over time. This is a hands-on team management position, that will be managing Network Security, Firewalls, Anti-Virus, MFA, DLP, SIEM, Vulnerability Management and Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB). From a technology perspective, we are a Microsoft and Cisco shop, using other security tools outside of these partners.

What you'll be doing:
  1. Deploy and support security operations tools, processes and procedures to ensure the continuous delivery of a secure computing environment across the enterprise.
  2. Manage network based security components including firewalls and Secure Access Secure Edge solutions.
  3. Lead/participate in security incident management, as necessary.
  4. Lead the Security Operations team ensuring the development of team work plans, assigning tasks and projects to team members, managing team work flow and tracking overall project status and goal achievement.
  5. Manage the recruitment, hiring, development and performance oversight of Security Operations team members.
  6. Manage the teams' change and problem resolution activities with an emphasis on timely delivery/resolution.
  7. Provide continuous improvement through methods such as root cause analysis to improve efficiencies and resolve problems.
  8. Partner with other teams to evolve policies and procedures in response to changing business, industry and organizational needs.
  9. Manage inventories and manage and/or provide input to annual budget.
  10. Develop and propose technical solutions and other materials to various teams within the organization.
  11. Communicate and collaborate effectively with peers, management, vendors, and other stakeholders to meet goals.
  12. Draft and implement critical processes and procedures based on industry best practices. Define, document and measure attainment of service level objectives. Drive the documentation of processes and procedures.
  13. Provide support after hours, when necessary, and respond to after hours requests via Blackberry.
  14. Personally execute hands-on project/process steps relating to the implementation and ongoing administration of the security infrastructure.

Skills we're seeking:
  1. 5+ years of experience with IT Security Operations
    • The more experience with our relevant areas the better: Network Security, Firewalls, Anti-Virus, MFA, DLP, SIEM, Vulnerability Management and Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB).
  2. 3+ years of experience with team management/lead experience.
  3. Must have experience managing direct reports.

Nice to haves:
  1. Experience working with Azure cloud security.
  2. Experience with Cisco network security.
  3. Experience with Directory Services such as Entra, Active Directory, LDAP, or Okta Universal Directory.
  4. Experience with Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions.
