POSITION: Help Desk Technician

DEPARTMENT: IT

REPORTS TO: IT Manager

FLSA STATUS: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Summary

ASM Global, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an excellent and immediate opening for a Help Desk Technician for ASM Global/Caesars Superdome | Smoothie King Center | Champions Square.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Load various software updates

  • Provide maintenance on various computer hardware

  • Maintain organization and cleanliness in the operations room

  • Track inventory of computer-related supplies

  • Answer Help Desk Calls professionally and courtesily

  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Detailed knowledge of Microsoft workstation operation systems

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, including the use of remote management systems

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, college preferred

  • 1-3 years of working experience within PC support

  • Extensive experience installing, maintaining, and upgrading Microsoft applications

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Answer service calls in a courteous and professional manner to solicit favorable responses and experiences in dealing with MCCNO staff.
  • Handle support calls and coordinate issues with the Desktop Support Team escalating to next Tier as appropriate.
  • Respond to service calls as an assurance that desktop support is here to serve all end users, while exhibiting a team disposition.
  • Clarify PC-related issues, software errors and answer general questions so that end users feel informed and able to perform their duties.
Manage service tickets in an organized manner to ensure accuracy.
  • Provide service and usage reports as requested.
  • Properly document all service tickets.
Diagnose end user hardware conflicts and provide solutions to remedy the issues.
  • Perform software installations/upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot printer problems, security-related concerns, networking and connectivity issues, device driver selection and installations.
Provide PC and peripheral parts requirements, acquisition support and installations satisfying end user computing needs.
  • Provide research and recommendations for improvements and opportunities.
  • Maintain equipment inventory records/equipment replacement schedule.
  • Perform other server non-OS services such as Activity Directory, Email, user accounts and permissions.
  • Provide support in other Helpdesk activities as required.

Technical work of a specialized nature in desktop and mobile device support. Work also includes:

  • Documenting, tracking and monitoring incidents and problems to ensure timely resolution.
  • Performing diagnostics, troubleshooting and best methods to resolve user hardware and software issues.
  • Adhering to Help Desk policy and procedures, system documentation, and administrative and user guides.
  • Creating, managing and updating system images.
  • Testing and deploying new applications as well as system patches and updates.
  • Creating basic scripts to automate desktop administrative tasks.
  • Related work as required.
Note: Employees in this classification may work a fixed or rotating shift, Saturdays and emergencies. Employees in this classification are considered essential and must report to work in declared emergencies. EITHER: A Bachelor's Degree in computer science, Computer Information Systems (CIS), or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.

OR : An Associates Degree in computer science, Computer Information Systems (CIS), or a closely related field from an accredited college or universityAND two (2) years of progressively responsible experience at a medium to large scale computer or client/server system involving responsibility for customer communications, problem analysis on computer equipment and peripherals, system performance monitoring, and performing network functions.

GOOD MORAL CHARACTER is required of all applicants. Any applicant may be disqualified if his/her character or past employment record is found to be unsatisfactory as determined by the Department of City Civil Service. Forgery, misrepresentation of facts, or cheating on examinations is punishable by disqualification, fine and other penalties.

IMPORTANT : Applicants who are licensed to drive should have a current license on their person for purposes of identification during all phases of an examination. In lieu of such license, the Department of City Civil Service may require that applicants have some form of picture identification.

VETERANS PREFERENCE: On original entrance examinations, veterans (as defined in Article X, Section 10(2) of the Constitution of the State of Louisiana), disabled veterans, certain spouses and parents of veterans shall receive additional credit if claimed as provided on the Veterans Preference claim form which can be obtained in this office. HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND GENERAL EQUIVALENCY DIPLOMA (GED) must be issued by a state Department of Education or an institution recognized by a state Department of Education. Certificates of completion, high school diplomas and GED from institutions not recognized by a state Department of Education are not acceptable. High School diplomas from foreign countries will be accepted if the applicant submits a statement of educational equivalency from one of the evaluation services accepted by the Department of Civil Service. ACCREDITED COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES: An accredited college or university is an institution that is accredited as a college or university by an organization that is recognized by the USDE (United States Department of Education). PROFESSIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE: The Civil Service Department defines this experience as experience gained in a position that required a Bachelor's Degree upon entrance.
