Summary
The IV Nurse is an important role; not only do you have to excel at your job placing and running intravenous therapies, but must have excellent bedside manner. Our patients come to us with a variety of ailments and in such we offer a wide variety of treatments. These include, but are not limited to, vitamin bags, alternative antibiotic treatment, antibiotics, and chelation. We take a team approach to treating our patients and rely on our staff to take ownership over the care provided, under the direction of the provider.
Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Greet Patients in the I.V. Center and make them feel comfortable
- responsible for adding walk in patients to the schedule
- Perform peripheral venipuncture in accordance to the established institutional policy or protocol
- Prepare necessary materials to deliver prescribed I.V. treatment
- Administer treatments as prescribed
- Compute and establish flow rates of medications or any other treatment prescribed by the practitioner
- Observe and assess possible adverse reactions related to I.V. therapy and initiate necessary measures to avert reactions
- Ensure technical capability in the use, care, maintenance and evaluation of I.V. equipment
- Document information related to the preparation, administration and termination of all forms of I.V. therapy
- Keep I.V. room, prep room, lab area and concierge rooms for I.V.s clean and organized at all times.
- Stock I.V. center with supplies and medications needed
- Draw blood and tag specimens exactly as outlined in requisition forms
- Process specimens follow laboratory requirements for each specific analyte.
- Responsible for patient call backs
- Perform necessary patient education
- Perform SQ and IM injections
- Ordering medical supplies / performing inventory
- Properly package each specimen and ensure they are delivered to the laboratory on time.
- Keep clean and organized laboratory work area.
- Stock laboratory with needed supplies.Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
Requirements Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Registered Nurse required
- Must excel at placing I.V. catheters and drawing blood
- Must be friendly and understand the importance of excellent customer service
- Must possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with patients, providers and other employees
- Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure.
- IV insertion: 1 year (Required)
- IV infusion: 1 year (Preferred)
