**Role Description**
Within the Compliance Operations Department, the Know Your Customer (KYC) Analyst is responsible for performing processes related to Know Your Customer (KYC/CIP), specialized projects, and assisting the KYC VP with day-to-day operational processes and reporting within KYC. May act in capacity of team leader or individual contributor.
Reporting to the KYC Associate or KYC VP, the KYC Analyst performs specialized tasks, routine operational day-to-day actions, and/or assists the KYC VP in directing day-to-day work of employees. Reviews work of administrators and representatives, resolves some complex matters; escalates as appropriate. May have a formal or informal management role by supervising and/or training others. May direct and manage staff and workflows in accordance with KYC and SMBC standards and policies. Additionally, may manage staff training, employee relations, workforce planning, and mentorship. Works closely with KYC VP to recommend improvements to policies and procedures. Depending on experience, may act as an SME for department and across function.
**Role Objectives**
+ Ensures operational efficiencies and customer data integrity in accordance with internal policies and procedures of SMBC and Head Office and compliance with AML/BSA/OFAC regulations.
+ Performs new customer on boarding, account opening, account updates and static data maintenance. Provides quality control of KYC (Know Your Customer) and CIP customer information and assures verification in accordance with AML policy and procedure.
+ Ensures adherence to the SMBC KYC Program; supports industry-mandated changes or system changes by participating in the change process; recommends changes through compliance with bank policies.
+ Activities of the KYC team are governed by SMBC's Policies and Procedures. The KYC Analyst assists the KYC VP as assigned to ensure that the following are adhered to by all employees within the department:
+ ensures that CIP information and mandatory DD/EDD information is collected prior to account opening;
+ collects from the RM and reviewing, for adequacy and accuracy, all required KYC information and documentation within prescribed time frame.
+ confirms that verification documents are obtained by the RM and work performed by KYC are completed within a prescribed time frame;
+ conducts background checks (i.e., OFAC, politically exposed persons, 311 and adverse information checks),
+ maintains evidence of search results in the KYC system and escalating to the BSA Officer any confirmed or suspected name matches associated with material negative information.
+ Provides quality assurance for updates made to existing customer records including appropriate documentation review. Also performs quality assurance reviews on alerts or cases and tracks deficiencies in order to enhance procedural standards and takes initiatives to suggest, plan and implement changes.
+ Working with the KYC VP, ensures business continuity under all conditions, sometimes adverse, with strict adherence to established guidelines and deadlines.
**Qualifications and Skills**
+ 3 to 5 years of specialized experience in Financial Services
+ Back office operations. Management experience preferred.
+ BA / BS (or equivalent experience)
+ CAMS preferred
+ Very strong technical knowledge of AML, Bank Secrecy Act, Foreign Asset Control.
+ Very strong level knowledge of KYC (Know Your Customer) process and regulations.
+ Strong knowledge of banking policies, statutory and compliance regulations.
+ Strong knowledge of market practices related to compliance operations.
+ Good judgement, sense of urgency and accountability; time- management skills.
+ Ability to supervise and train others.
+ Ability to execute in a high pressure environment.

This team is responsible for fostering a culture of control and compliance, customer centricity and accountability while leading efforts to identify, anticipate and mitigate AML, Sanctions and Anti-Bribery regulatory, reputational, and operational risks.
The Financial Crimes Lead will support USPB Cards Financial Crime activities related to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Sanctions/Screening, and Anti-Bribery & Corruption (AB&C). Scope of coverage includes CIP (Customer Information Program), KYC (Know Your Customer), AML, and screening (sanctions and non-sanctions), and Anti Bribery & Corruption.
This position serves as a partner to AML and Sanctions Compliance as well as Cards Business, Internal Audit, and operations teams.
Responsibilities:
+ Dimension all Financial Crimes identified issues and work with Business Risk, Compliance, Operations and Technology teams to actively identify new and address AML/KYC and Sanctions policy gaps
+ Support the impact assessment and implementation assessment for new and revised AML/KYC and Sanctions policies for Cards
+ Manage execution of AML/BSA policy related Corrective Action Plans (CAP) which Includes managing CAP milestones and execution timelines
+ Facilitate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and GAP analysis exercises with multiple stakeholder groups to get resolution on remediation actions as well as operation incidents
+ Collaborate with multiple compliance groups, business teams, technology, and infrastructure teams to identify the root cause and create action-plans for resolution Partner with the project group to get the project requests prioritized and delivered
+ Manage action items for the issues management workstream by timely follow-up and coordination between multiple stakeholder groups to bring each project to closure
+ Perform detailed analysis for complex recommendations to ensure appropriate risk/reward balance, including policy changes
+ Champion efforts and act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Financial Crimes Policy Adherence Execution regarding policy and regulatory requirements, leading the business in developing sustainable solutions to meet policy requirements and risk mitigation.
+ Communicate with impacted stakeholder groups and with compliance and facilitate meetings when new policies/standards are being developed for impact assessment.

Qualifications:
+ 6-10 years of direct, relevant experience in financial service operations, risk and controls, compliance, audit, or regulatory management.
+ Deep functional knowledge of the Credit Cards and/or Retail Banking industries and applicable AML KYC rules, regulations, policies, and processes with preferred knowledge of and experience with Citi Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Sanctions programs.
+ Project management and governance experience with the proven ability to develop project plans and drive a diverse group of stakeholders to identify and achieve milestones within deadlines
+ Demonstrated ability to identify, classify, prioritize and remediate risks
+ Superior organizational skills, with proven ability to successfully manage multiple and concurrent priorities while working independently or with little supervision.
+ Self-motivated with a passion for establishing and maintaining a culture of control within the business.
+ Demonstrated relationship management skills with ability to deepen relationships and build partnerships across the business and key functional support areas with a strong ability to influence a group of diverse stakeholders and drive accountability and ownership with key business partners and process owners.
+ Detail oriented, with proven ability to question and identify opportunities within existing processes and business practices by leveraging previous experiences and knowledge of the business. This candidate should have strong conflict resolution skills and work in a sometimes-stressful environment with quick turnaround timelines
+ Pragmatic problem-solver, forward thinker with independence of thought and strong critical thinking skills
+ Background in enterprise data management, especially as it applies to Financial Crimes, is a plus
+ Expert in using PowerPoint and Excel, a plus
+ Excellent verbal and written skills and experience presenting to senior audiences
Education:
+ Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience, potentially Master's degree
