Kelly Science and Clinical has an immediate opening for a Laboratory Associate for our growing client near Huntsville, AL. Full-time $15/hr. We're looking for a detail-oriented and driven Laboratory Associate to help build our world-class FFPE Biorepositoryone quality-controlled sample at a time.
What You'll Do:
- Assist in the creation and organization of high-quality FFPE (Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded) samples for our global inventory.
- Prepare and QC samples for our expanding biorepositoryhelping scientists access critical materials for disease research.
- Work in Excel and our internal database to ensure accurate reporting, labeling, and tracking of samples.
- Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders and contribute to process improvement and sample quality.

A member of the College of Arts and Sciences teaching laboratory support team, this position provides support for day-to-day laboratory operations. Primary areas of responsibility include: procurement and preparation of laboratory equipment, supplies and chemicals; disposal of hazardous waste; management of hazardous materials storage areas; management of inventory systems; general facilities monitoring; and supervision of student employees.

- Stock glassware, instrumentation, equipment and other supplies in labs

- Purchase laboratory chemicals and supplies; follow procedures when using direct purchase orders, the university purchasing card, purchase orders and blanket purchase orders

The Junior Laboratory Associate will work with the project PI and project staff to assist in lab and home data collection, spreadsheet design and video annotation, visualizations, and analyses. The Junior Laboratory Associate will also assist with organization and management of video files and related annotation spreadsheets and questionnaires and with supervision of undergraduates. Research duties include but are not limited to: participant recruitment, data collection in lab and participants’ homes, annotation of video data in Datavyu, data visualization and analyses, quality assurance and inter-observer reliability, updating databases of data tracking and sharing in Databrary, and assistance in disseminating research findings in presentations and publications.

Qualifications include a BA/BS in psychology or a related field, previous experience working in a research setting with infants and children, experience in video annotation using Datavyu, and experience with video sharing using Databrary. The ideal candidate must also have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Education
- High School or General Education Diploma (GED)
- 2 years recent relevant experience
- Advanced knowledge and practices of standard principles, processes, procedures, and equipment related to: 1) ordering Laboratory testing and 2) handling and processing biological specimens routinely submitted to the Laboratory for analysis.
- Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks.
- Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for completion within expected timeframes.

Job Description
Avian Junior Laboratory Associate to study black-capped chickadees in the New York area. Prior mist-netting experience required. The associate will join a growing research group at NYU focused on understanding the neural mechanisms of memory in food-caching birds. The associate will be based at NYU’s downtown Manhattan campus year-round, with intermittent fieldwork within a 2-hour radius of New York City.
Primary responsibilities:

Daily care, feeding, and maintenance of black-capped chickadees and zebra finches housed at NYU

Assistance with behavioral and neurobiological experiments in the lab

Support for general lab operations and administration

Fieldwork in the fall and winter consisting of maintenance of field sites and mist-netting to band and collect wild chickadees

Transportation and handling of birds from field sites to the lab
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $58,656 - $60,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Demonstrated experience mist-netting and handling wild birds. Valid driver's license and willingness to drive self and others for field work. Interest in neuroscience research. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
