+ Perform routine analysis of specimens and document results in accordance with SOPs and regulatory guidelines.
+ Evaluate analytical results for validity using lab computer system algorithms.

+ Prepare buffers and solutions for analysis and manage post-analysis sample and reagent storage.

**What We Are Looking For:**
+ Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology (required for CAP/CLIA lab locations).
+ Minimum 6 months of relevant laboratory experience.
+ Familiarity with techniques such as pipetting, buffer preparation, and sample handling.
+ Other Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be accepted in lieu of degree

Role Overview:

As a Clinical Laboratory Associate, you are responsible for handling biological samples, reagents and materials in support of clinical laboratory testing. This is an entry level laboratory-based position, whose primary functions will include a combination of clinical operations support and patient testing services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive, inspect, and accession clinical samples
  • Execute assigned clinical sample processing utilizing approved SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and following related WI (Work Instructions)
  • Processes include extraction of DNA from human whole blood, quantitative PCR (qPCR), and data analysis
  • Operate a variety of laboratory equipment (e.g., qPCR thermocyclers, electronic pipettes, centrifuges, robot automation, etc.)
  • Perform sample processing in compliance with the Clinical Quality Management System and record all experimental details in real-time
  • Communicate and support resolution of any issues/deviations that arise

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Read and follow all company guidelines, policies, and SOPs
  • Contribute to laboratory cleaning and maintenance duties and associated documentation (e.g., maintenance logs, physical/electronic inventories, labelling)
  • Abide by all safety requirements as defined by the company, including proper use of personal protective equipment for working with human materials and chemicals
  • Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • BSc. or MSc. in relevant subject (with wet lab research projects), or equivalent experience. Equivalent experience would need to include basic knowledge in scientific method, math skills, (including simple algebra), knowledge of chemistry and biology.
  • 1 year of laboratory experience (preferably in a regulatory environment) would be an advantage.

**Position Overview:**
Performs duties primarily in support of analyzing Laboratory quality control and patient specimens. Also performs quality assurance tasks related to the analytic phase of Laboratory work flow. Operates, maintains and does basic troubleshooting of Laboratory analyzers that perform testing classified as "waived" and "moderate complexity." Receives, handles and processes a variety of specimens for Laboratory testing. Performs basic post-analytic tasks, including distributing reports, storing and/or retrieving specimens. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care.

**EDUCATION:**
+ HS Diploma: High School or General Education Diploma (GED)
**TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:**
+ 2 years recent relevant experience
**SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:**
+ Advanced knowledge and practices of standard principles, processes, procedures, and equipment related to: 1) ordering Laboratory testing and 2) handling and processing biological specimens routinely submitted to the Laboratory for analysis.
+ Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks.
+ Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for completion within expected timeframes.
+ Workflow Management Ability to appropriately respond to: 1) fluctuations in volume. 2) unexpected situations or problems such as equipment or information systems failure; 3) shift-to-shift hand-offs; 4) STAT test orders; 5) specimen integrity issues and 6) regular review of pending logs, priority assignments, etc.
+ Ability to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence.
+ Solid critical thinking in applying knowledge and decision-making.
+ Effective verbal and written communication skills.
+ Knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the privacy and safety of patients.
+ Ability to work in a collaborative setting where the communication of current, factual, and relevant work information is required.
+ Knowledge of and ability to recognize and appropriately escalate complex and unusual deviations, problems, unusual occurrences and unexpected outcomes.

Pay Range is $36.28 to $45.34 / hour

Lab Technologist/Technician Microbiology Job Description

As a highly skilled lab technologist/technician , you will play a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases by performing various laboratory tests and procedures. You will be responsible for accurately interpreting laboratory results, documenting any problems with unacceptable specimens, and organizing workload to maximize efficiency.

  • Test Performance:
    • Accurately perform and interpret laboratory tests on specimens received from patients.
    • Evaluate specimens for acceptability and document any problems with unacceptable specimens.
    • Organize workload to maximize efficiency and complete tests as ordered.
    • Collect and verify data as required by supervisor.
  • Test Result Reporting:
    • Reports test results in a timely manner according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
    • Documents proper notification process for critical values.
    • Notifies Infectious Disease provider or primary care provider regarding Microbiology alerts.
  • Quality Control:
    • Performs quality control for test procedure.
    • Accurately analyzes and evaluates QC results.
    • Records results obtained for quality control testing.
    • Notifies supervisor of discrepant QC results.
  • Instrument Maintenance:
    • Performs daily, weekly, monthly or as needed maintenance on instruments and equipment.
    • Documents performance of maintenance procedures.
    • Performs calibration of equipment as required.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Follows established guidelines for troubleshooting procedures.
    • Documents steps taken during troubleshooting process.
    • Notifies supervisor when unable to solve problems.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Consistently adheres to established Laboratory and Hospital policies for Universal Precautions, Chemical Hygiene and Safety procedures.
    • Wears lab coat, gloves, goggles and protective devices as required when handling specimens.
    • Properly disposes of contaminated and hazardous waste materials.
    • Assists coworkers when main bench duties are completed.
    • Participates in formal continuing education program sponsored by Professional Organizations.
    • Rotates through all work stations in the Microbiology department.

    Requirements:

    • Baccalaureate degree in relevant science preferred.
    • One (1) year clinical laboratory internship preferred.
    • MT or MLS (ASCP) certification is required within 1 year from the date of hire.
